Madden 2010 News Post

EA has just posted another Madden NFL 10 blog. Ian talks about revamping how injuries work.

Quote:
"Welcome back Madden faithful, it’s Monday and that means it’s time for another blog! This week we wanted to go into some depth about a new feature you can expect to see in Madden NFL 10: our revamped injury system. Hopefully this new addition is just one (of many) that continues to prove that we are focused on delivering an authentic NFL experience to our fans – and that while we are still ensuring to innovate in every single iteration, that innovation has to come inside of what’s core to NFL simulation football. As we said in our [mission statement] way back in January, we aren’t about gimmicks, we are here to create an authentic representation of the sport. “Everything You See On Sunday, See It In Madden NFL”…injuries are a major part of that.

Along with the obvious concern for the well-being of the athlete, there are also typically very major ramifications to the team when a player gets hurt. How serious is the injury? Can the player continue to play hurt even with the risk of re-injury? How well can his backup fill in if he is out? How will the team adjust to continue without him? Will their opponent exploit the loss of the starter? We wanted to emulate all of this strategy, suspense, and emotion behind injuries in Madden NFL 10."

I'm guessing the NFL won't allow any serious neck injuries?

Can't let people know how violent the game is.

We also wanted to make sure that something would have to actually ‘trigger’ the re-injury. In the old systems, you could have your running back chip a lineman and look fine and then all of a sudden his ACL was blown out. We made sure that real actions that could cause an injury were the catalysts for a re-injury. If you have a running back with a sprained knee, you don’t want to be doing crazy jukes and spins all over the place because he could just plant wrong and get severely injured.
Reading that was awesome news!

Injuries occur more often on special teams plays
I also liked reading this but it could become a major annoyance if we can't pick who is on the field in these situations. I don't want Champ Bailey tearing his groin as a gunner on a kickoff!

Most excellent.

I'm growing tired of saying this - I think we're in good hands this year.

This August, I get to find out.

This is one of the better blogs we've had in a while. Pro-tak was good and it will transform the gameplay in some ways. But it was getting beat to death. This was that breath of fresh air.

Well done Ian and Ea well done. Cant say enough about what you all are doing. The injury system is brilliant you guys really brainstormed this. I like how you take us thorugh the enitre thought process and always try to take it one step further, i really appreciate that.

Or maybe they have customizable sound tracks and they don't have rights to that song.

I'm very happy with the information in this blog. An absolutely critical change IMHO.

That blog just put a HUGE smile on my face. WOW. What a difference a year makes!

Now my only question...

When a player is injured (say Manning used in the example with a shoulder problem), are there specific animations showing him favor the said shoulder that is injured?

Wow when I first saw the title, I was like, "Why injuires this is boring?" but this looks great!! I love how the trainer comes on the field and walks the player off and especially the ambulance!!!

what happens if your guy is out for a quarter or half, and you do sub him out, will he automatically be put back in when he's ready or are you going to be asked again at that time?

i didn't really care too much for this blog this time. i wouldn't call this more important than pro-tak or OL/DL interaction or a whole lot of other things. It's good info dont get me wrong, but i file this under the whole equipment/colored cleats/mouthguard stuff I really don't care too much about but a lot of ya'll do. it's all good.

I like all the of details about the injury system. The progressive injury is awesome. Good to see new injury animations occur if you play with a hurt player.

My only issue is if there isnt a health system in M10(something like Head Coach) then its all really pointless. If I tear my ACL IRL my knee is not going to be as strong when I return. I will in fact have an increased chance of rehurting my knee. Even if I do the proper rehab and "fully" recover my knee will never be the same.

I hope there is a health system and yall are just waiting to release it at a later time. I just figured now would have been a great time to release it with the injury system because of how closely they relate to each other.

Yeah I was starting to feel the exact same way.

I love the fact that there is a strategic element to the game now. you always here that football sometimes is a game of chess and this new inury system brings that. I like that Ian mentioned the need for quality backups in your franchise. That makes me think that fatigue will be a factor. also hints at a more robust franchise mode, im loving this right now lol
