Ehm... I'm lost. If you want to replay the "moment" that Peyton Manning drove the Colts to beat the Vikings last year, but you want to play the whole game, couldn't you simply set up a Play Now game between the Colts and Vikings?

Game Play

Best game play I have seen in Madden, ever. Pocket's forming, guys are coming off the line correctly (no instant start). Game speed looks good. Coverage looks good.

The pocket is better, but still doesn't look quite right. It might just be that on this play the DT got pressure, but they pushed right up the middle, pretty much negating the pocket feel.

The biggest problem that I saw was the DB coverage by the guys that weren't in man coverage (zone players). The safeties that were deep (looks like Cover man 2) were still instant turning (you can see the one on the right do it several times). This is going to be a game breaker for any zone coverage, and something that still doesn't appear to be fixed/addressed. Looks like instant turns are still in.

Presentation

Looks good. The one thing that I see which still hasn't been fixed are the quick head jerks (snapping), and then how the camera follows players after a play is over. The camera follows a player (locked in) and because the players movements are fast/jerky, it causes the camera to jerk as well. The camera needs to get a passing shot of the player. Find a player to follow, determine their direction, and then let the camera float that way independently. Even if they lose site of the player, at least the camera won't jerk back and forth. When the player is no longer in frame, then transition to another player, or to the same player from a different angle.

That is a very good observation and excellent job of explaining it. You're right, that is the way cameras follow players in real life. It would look more crisp if it is done that way on the game. Sounds difficult to implement though because I think the camera movement, no matter where it is, is dictated by the player's movement.

or you can just play the game itself in Play Now

Nice to see a bit more gameplay footage. Game still doesn't seem to convey the sense of speed/chaotic/random nature of an NFL play imo, but I'm sure my perspective is a little different than most here. Really not worried about the warping tackle late in the vid; sure that's an anomally and will get cleaned up. But a lot of Pro-Tak to date seems to be the same/similar with the way gang tackles occur. Will be interested to see extended gameplay video to see how it all really plays out. Really liked the camera angle at the 4min mark ( I think); presentation overall looks much improved for a Madden title. Still think they could afford to do less detail in the players and put more resources to [surroundings] but guess that wouldn't fly with a lot of people.

Would it be with the Super Bowl Team? Would it be in a Super Bowl environment (stadium, presentation)? Would you get the Super Bowl win/end animation? If there's a way to do that, then that would be great. Heck a Super Bowl mode would be a great addition. Ability to play any Super Bowl, ever. (Probably an easy mode for them to add as well as long as you can live with Collinsworth calling the plays in Super Bowl I heh).

Now, I have no way to know who's he lined up against. God forbid someone assigns their top corner to follow my no. 1 WR around. I NEED to know this.
If the CPU has any intelligence at all, it would automatically shadow your best WR with its best CB...For example...if I play as the Panthers against the Raiders, I expect to see Asomugha on Smith all day...it's up to me to come up with innovative ways to get Smith the ball, whether it be WR screens or reverses, etc...I almost expect the #1 CB to follow the #1 WR around the field all day to be automatic...

Pretty good vid...Ian seemed a little....winded. Need to start doing some exercising before interviews...get the stamina up.

Going back and watching the video knowing that the "interviewer" wasn't paying any attention to Ian makes it pretty hilarious. Ian keeps glancing over to see if the guy has decided to stop being a jackass...and then you can tell by Ian's reaction that he's still not paying any attention. Props for still going through it lol.

Anyway the game looks great. I like the new idea for catching with the circle getting smaller as the ball gets closer sort of like the outfield in an MLB game. On long plays you'll be able to time your catch much better even though you can't see the ball. Hopefully that means you have to be more accurate to make the catch and no more holding the button.

# 51 Maelstrom-XIII @ 05/18/09 03:12 PM
Ian should've just kept rewinding/replaying that first tackle all interview after he saw the guy not paying attention...keep talking about the game like you've gone into a different play or mode...but just keep moving the pile in that replay...would've made for an interesting interview..but probably would've made EA look bad, not GT.

Did anyone else notice the foot on the Steelers sideline moving while the game was paused?

Ummm....I play humans too. Also, if the assignments are like they were on PS2, then the DB only follows the WR when the defense is playing man. Finally, if teams play like their real counterparts, as the ea guys have said they do, there will be some teams that don't line their best CB up against the best WR. The Raiders CB's, for example, sometimes line up on the same side of the field regardless of where the no.1 WR is lined up at. It just depends on the team their up against. Anyway, I don't want to hijack this thread or nothing.... I just wanted to convey my deepest wish to have the defensive players names shown.

I sure hope Ian reads this and somehow sneaks it in there.

I'm not asking for the running play to develop holes EVERY time, but I just want the blocking to be more logical so I can sift through the line with more precision. It would also be nice if your RB extended his arm to an OL/FB in front of him so you could be guided through the mess (not this play, but in other plays).

Right now it looks like the same old suction blocking that apex was talking about earlier year.

I honestly wasn't expecting it to be fixed (because it was so horrific to start out with), but it would have been nice if it looked better.
There was actually a decent hole to the right with a free blocker that Ian could have followed but he didn't. Probably too distracted trying to get the dude's attention .

Everything looks to be fine but a couple little things I am concerned about. 1 is the herky jerky of the pile up near the goal line when the pile is moving forward. 2 My concern is it look like that the Big Ben has to much time in the pocket . It doesn't seem to be much of a pass rush. I mean I know that is a earlier build of the game I guess. But I feel that I want see more a pass rush from the front 4. The max time aQB has in the pocket in the real NFL is make 3-4 seconds before he has to scramble are throw it away. It look like there that big ben ad way to much time. I hope that is something you are working on Ian.

I am aware of this, and I'm not panicking because there's still time for changes to be made. However, Ian released the blog on player momentum on March 16th. This was a known area of concern from previous Maddens, and thus I kind of assume that by the time this footage was taken, at least some changes had been made. In that blog, Ian claimed that a 90 degree turn took anywhere from 4-9 yards now. I'm not really seeing that.

I'm just concerned that there wasn't enough momentum added for my taste. I'm hoping this will be tuned in the direction of more momentum before release.

Oh I understand where you're coming from...perhaps the best solution would be to show the names of the skill positions on offense (QB, RBs, WRs, TE) and the secondary and/or LBs on defense...that way we know who is lined up on who...

And for those who thought Ben had too much time in the pocket...perhaps this is still on Pro, which makes for a safer pocket for those with less experience...I'd like to see if Ian was on Pro as I suspect, or if he bumped it up to All Pro...if its All Pro, then I'm concerned that he did have too much time...if its Pro, it's probably about right.

BTW, I don't play online, which is where my "If the CPU was smart.." came from...didn't even think about the online players...my bad.

That's a nice video. I bet they could release this today and it would be the best Madden ever.
