NCAA Football 10 News Post

Hey guys my name is Russell Kiniry and I'm one of the Designers on NCAA Football 10. I work in (and spend my free time in) game-play and Dynasty.

Going to cut right too it... this week’s blog (which I'm wrapping up now) pertains to game-play. So your concerns are being heard.

Another touchy topic right now: The screen shots from last week’s blog. They were bad; no getting around that... the goal was to show some extreme angles of the camera (not game-play). The offense line that Greg had running at the time was not even close to what the game represents. I actually plan on addressing this a little tonight on insideblog.easports.com (I’ll edit this post when it goes live as long as I’m allowed to post links ).

Really I just hope I can help clear up some of the misconceptions we have this year with features/additions we've already talked about.

-Russ

If I set my defensive strategy to 3-4, I shouldn't have to always choose the 3-4 defensive playbook before playing a game.
I would believe that, but the offensive playbook works. if I set it to use another playbook other than the default for the team, it will be what I set when I go to play the game.

it's not that big of a deal, especially since there aren't many defensive playbooks anyway, but it would save time having to change it or reload a game because you forgot to.

It is a big deal. I do CPU/CPU and every team defaults to 4-3.

yea, its a big deal for CPU teams, I was more or less talking about me having to manually switch before each game.

i love this post...i'd like to see ONE of these issues resolved. the one in particular: suction blocking/tackling - especially on a 3rd or 4th down where it seems as if though the computer purposely does it to get an edge....

and seriously create a school is such a non factor, play madden for stuff like that. college football is about tradition and a good game in the best atmosphere....why do u care so much about having the correct pink in your uni?

what really should be worked on is the animations, users should be able to break out of some of the animations early....or maybe have the tackling correspond with ACTUAL PHYSICS. i don't like tackling a running back at the LOS and then a second tackler forcing the runner about 6 yards beyond where i initially hit him. when crap like that happens and im defending my red zone it gets extremely frustrating.

OMT: Why do the OU helmets not match the stripes on the pants???? In other words, they're still too bright.

All helmets are like that right now. It is a lighting thing.

Good to know its being addressed.

Anyone else notice those new cleats in the pocket pictures? Those look pretty sweet. Hey OMT or RUss, what are the chances that we can edit sock color for our teams in NCAA 10? If you look at a team like Arizona State in NCAA '09, they wear different color socks (white/black) when they are away or at home. I'm pretty sure that's not the case in real life. Just wondering...

I was just curious if the ranking system in franchise has been looked at for 2010? BCS, AP, Choaches poll...? Also how about Dynamic Attendance for 2010???

About position changes, the one that really irks me is the huge penalty you get when changing a FS to SS or a SS to FS. Why does the player magically lose speed or such drastic awareness. I don't mind a minimal hit in the overall since a coverage FS would not be as highly regarded in a SS role where he is counted on to make more tackles, but a 5 point hit in speed and 10-point hit in OVR? The same thing for a switching an OLB to a MLB even though positions in the latter example might be more different than moving from SS to FS.

So your quote below was a serious statement?

They wore white socks with their away uniforms during the 07 season, which is what the NCAA 09 art was based on (unless it was indicated otherwise before the season started).

Based on my reference of last season (2008), they wore either white or black with their away uniforms.

Can we get the reason for this foolishness? Programming 60+ teams to defenses that they don't even use is dumb.

And those aren't new cleats.....

im pretty sure u wernt serious but ill let you keep that statement, also when u quoted what he said it was on the same page, so the developers would see it, or maybe they are blind....

funny because like most major complaints of this game it is still being ignored.

Online Dynasty Hirings and Firings would be great too.

I am in a BIG12/ACC dynasty and I have won 6/8 BCS titles. Texas and Miami still have like 4x the amount of interested recruits every year, so I wouldn't mind going and getting one of those teams if possible. I finish up #3 every year in recruiting regardless of their respective records.

Don't you think 6/8 titles would get me the Notre Dame treatment?

I asked a designer/producer in the EA forums about it yesterday and he said it wont be back this year cuz the commish can just change the teams. i think the game should do the firing personally. at least let contracts and offers from other teams into '10.

(Edited for space)

Love to hear how you guys plan on addressing these issues in NCAA 2010.
So I'm going to try and cover your questions by explaining what our goals are on the line... Mainly because the line play is still a work in progress and not everything is functioning correctly yet.

1. The D-Line has to matter, blitzing should not be the only way to get pressure

What I mean is simply we want the defensive line to be able to make an impact on the running and passing game, guys should be able to get off blocks and make plays.

2. Higher rated players should dominate (when faced up against lower talent) on both sides of the ball

Ratings need to be able to drive the action, while I don't want to create a situation where a 90+ DE beats a 75 OT 100% of the time, you should be scared that every play that DE can be in the backfield.

Also I'm going to have to double check but I'm pretty sure most of the huge impact blocks no longer play for inteior linemen. It is sort of silly a 280 pound player gets pushed back in the air 3 yards. But they still can be cut blocked, so you will see some D-Linemen on the ground.
