UFC 2009 Undisputed News Post

Gamespot has revealed the full roster for UFC 2009 Undisputed.

Quote:
"Ever since THQ lifted the veil on UFC 2009 Undisputed last year, the game has been a beacon of hope for fans who've been looking for a fighting game that makes the most of the mixed martial arts craze. UFC 2009 isn't the first UFC game--the brand has been in videogames since the Dreamcast days--but, after some missteps on the PS2 and Xbox, it seems like the right time for UFC to make a comeback in videogames, just as the sport's real-life popularity is skyrocketing.

Recently THQ came by GameSpot HQ to show us an updated build of the game and, more importantly, give us the complete rundown of every fighter in the game. During the visit, THQ's general manager of product development-fighting Colin Mack sat down with our own Ryan MacDonald to get the full roster rundown and talk about some of the game's finer points."

There are some guys missing that I'd like to see but I really can't complain. This is a pretty good list. Hopefully they'll add more fighters as DLC. Damn this game needs to come out.

Awesome list, I'm surprised that they kept Huerta in there. Sucks GSP can't move weight. No Couture or Cote??? what gives?

What the hell is the "mainiac", Tito, Crocop, and the "Pitbull" doing on this game. Was this game in the making while these guys were under contract?

Man.. no Clay Guida

# 6 allBthere @ 03/19/09 07:03 PM
this number of real fighters is unprecidented. I don't see how anyone could be upset w/ this list --- 82 fighters!!!!!

I'm excited to use kampmann and GSP

****update**** there are about 6 new gameplay vids on gamespot now - chuck vs rua, sera vs hughes, jardine vs a.silva, brock vs nog. I really noticed how nice and crisp the jabs are, chuck does a 1,1,2 that looked great. Not much ground work in these, but it's 100% gameplay w/ no music or effects. There must be some kind of hurry modifier button because you can charge in or back away quickly. Another thing I noticed is that A.Silva did an underhook clich (not a thai plum) meaning I guess you can choose the form of your clinch w/ a thai fighter. When guy get ko'd they look DEAD lol...eyes open, looks really creepy.

one last thing about randy - he recently signed a contract or amendment with the UFC, and it included a videogame rights portion. So he'll either come via dlc, or UFC 2010 or whatever.

The 2 months ahead are going to be tough waiting. In a week or so, I think I'll just try to forget about the game for a few weeks until the demo arrives.

edit*** new vids on ign too including standup tutorial...i'm losing it!

I really hope those clips were human vs human. Also, any word on different camera angles?

I think they are, but have no idea..at about 54sec in the ign tutorial vid, gsp and bj are trading blows in rapid succession it's awesome!. Yo ucan also see body knockdowns/outs

camera angles - there is no user control over them. They confirmed this in a vid or interview a while ago. They actually spend a great deal of time making the camera showing as much as the action as possible and in the best angle/location - I don't see a need to change it, plus the replays are phenominal.

Oh man. So many videos... so little time...

I can't WAIT to get my hands on this game.

Some things I noticed from the vids.

- Some vids have the Mandalay Bay logo on the mat, and others have the MSG logo. Sick.

- Who is Florian fighting at the 55 second mark of the Stand up tutorial video?

- Finally some evidence of blocking in the game.

- It looks like alot of the punches thrown are short stubby hooks, not feeling it. I did see a looping overhand by Chuck that looked really nice.

- Black toe nail polish on Chuck.

That's disappointing, not a fan of the angle from those clips.

couture should be in, but probably too late for the launch. Maybe DLC or the next edition.

they source yahoosports, but yeah, there it is in a nutshell.

Really bummed there's no Cote or Couture. But it's hard to complain with such a MASSIVE roster.

# 17 Iadf @ 03/19/09 11:35 PM
Yea i didn't notice randy couture wasn't on the roster i know that's going to disappoint a lot of people especially people who used to watch when he was dominating the HW division.

The game almost seems incomplete without couture and he isn't even one of my favourite fighters.

but with DLC and what not I'm not to concerned

I was some what disappointed with what I saw in the gamesport videos, (but I'm probably just really critical because I want this game to be really good [I think it will just be good]).

The thing that really stood out to me in those videos was the commentary. It seemed very spotty/forced/random. In one of the Chuck Liddell videos, Mike Goldberg gives a time remaning reminder every 15 seconds of the last minute of the round. The problem is that, in real time, that minute equates to about 30 seconds or so, so I'm hearing that reminder every seconds and it just seems very redundant. It seems very much like commentary for wrestling games where it is very random. It didn't have the flow it did in the trailer videos.

Another dislike is one I've mentioned before and that are some of the hit animations are very awkward looking and it makes the game seem arcade like. The animation looks like a very devistating shot with head and body jerking, but gameplay wise, it doesn't seem to have as much of an effect as the animation leads you to believe. (Figthers "return to normal too quickly after hits like those).

But again, I think this game is going to be good, still a first day buy for me, but hopefully others agree with my findings and something can be done about it for the next installment.

Does anybody know if we can choose the real time of rounds?

I'm glad Anthony Johnson made the cut.

Me too.

Guida not being is a dissapointment too. Still if you gave me a choice between having Arlovski, Sylvia, Ortiz and Cro Cop or Cote, Guida and Haslett......I'm taking the first list.

Also hearing that Couture will be in the game is great.
