MLB 2K9 News Post

Here is just a random video from our Major League Baseball 2K9 beta. I'll try to get some of the hit variety in future clips, as I'm just playing around with the video software in this one.

Well, that Markakis homer in this video bothered me.
Yeah, I shook my head when I saw that as well. Had the ball cleared the fence by a few feet, I would have been ok with it, but that thing cleared the fence by a good 30-40 feet. No way.

Wow just got some memories!Played this game like crazy back in 81.

Thanks for all the videos Steve. However, I'm getting more and more sceptical as I watch them.

I want the demo like now, this game looks dope.

I like the way gamespot thinks their videos are like 10 min long. Tie all the related videos into one long video. Thatll be sweeet.

looked like it will be a fun arcade game...the way they make the super-crashing bat sound when you get a good hit (actually sounded like a gunshot) is an interesting twist on the real game.

Stadium was a decent interpretation, you could tell it was supposed to be Rogers Center.

It doesnt seem like it represented real baseball as usually you have to hit the ball with the bat for it to go 400 feet. I am being a bit sarcastic, and I know its just the way the game has played for the last few years, but I really like the realism of seeing the ball hit the bat and seeing a ball hit where its pitched.

commentary did seem sort of canned, but its hard to complain compared to the last few years of the same dialogue over and over. At least its new.

seems like a definite step in the right direction. They have a few more years with the license, so maybe next year or 2 they can wrap it all up into a game worthy of the exclusivity.

Now it comes back to me... I know the baserunning graphic reminded me of something!

I actually played that electric baseball game, the graphics were a little stuttery

I hope the yellow runners are placeholders in the beta for something better looking and hopefully animated. It's not the end of the world if it looks like this in the retail version, but it does seem out of place with all of the other excellent graphics.

Stadium looks really nice...no one sitting in the seats directly behind home plate for some reason, but other than than it looks awesome (would be nice to get the video boards working I guess, but if they don't have out of town scoreboards I'd rather they put that up than something that isn't actually on there ahem).

Overbay looks weird wearing 35 again

There is alot of that going on today. Thank you for posting this message.

Another nice video and I am seeing new animations and possibilities every video I see. Thanks for the variations Steve

These videos look very nice. Between 2k9 and the Show, I have to keep reminding myself that these ARE just video games. My how far we have come in baseball gaming!

As for the skipping and stuttering of the videos here, I have believe the problem is either with this site, or my computer. The videos at Gamespot and GCHD are silky smooth for me, so I am confident that the frame rate will not be an issue for the game.

sorry man, had no intention of hurting you there...was pointing out what I saw from the video on the game that I buy and play every year. Saw some good, saw some bad, wrote about it in the forum.

But yes, I agree...we should only say positive things from now on. Thanks for your insight and clarity!

i dont know if it is my comp but why am i hearing the bat hit the ball before the ball reaches the plate? This is a big no no if this is how the game will be..which i doubt(i think). Then this takes out teh feel of the game.

- you are complaining about a guy who averages 20+ homeruns and 90 RBI a year, hitting a ball just a few rows back into the seats to the opposite field...care to explain how that is unrealistic again?

see, it's little petty complaints like this, that I see popping up all over the internt in regards to this game, that lead me to believe that 2k has a winner on their hands

I still don't know why some people are complaining about certain things such as framerate when we have clearly seen a more updated version of the game being played in 60 fps in the XPlay Hands-On video. Its been explained countless times that the videos Steve has been uploading have had less graphical and framerate quality (only going at about 24-30 fps).

I was hearing that as well. Actually, that was the first time I heard it, must have been a video problem.

For those complaining about the audio, lagging behind the video. That is my capture software and encoding. It pisses me off. Whenever we get the new video server all those issues will disappear. Just know that it's not there.

I gave you the numbers, and sure it was only a couple of rows back... behind the bullpen. Don't forget the fact that the pitch was low and away out of the zone and he hit it off the end of the bat.

Again, it was the physics of all of it.
