MLB 2K9 News Post

Hey everyone, my name is Erick Boenisch and I am the Lead Feature Designer here at 2K Sports. Many of you may be familiar with my work in NBA 2K’s The Association mode. I’m here today to talk to you about the exciting changes we have made with MLB 2K9’s Franchise mode.

As many of you already know, MLB 2K9 is now being developed at our Visual Concepts studio. This is the same studio that has been responsible for bringing you the NFL 2K and NBA 2K franchises. As a new developer taking over the game, I was presented with the unique opportunity of making a major transformation to the game’s aging Franchise mode. And make a major change we did; we decided to build to the Franchise mode from the ground up. That’s a big statement to make, and I’ll go into those details momentarily. First, I want everyone to understand our philosophy on MLB 2K9’s Franchise mode. We’re looking to create the deepest franchise mode on the market, while still making it very accessible for casual gamers who want to play a season with their favorite team. Ultimately, I believe franchise modes shouldn’t only be for the hard-core gamer, they should be for everyone to enjoy.

From what I understood/read they've been working on this game for close to 2 years. But I might be wrong. Still, game is looking solid.

it all sounds nice but one of the "little things" this game is lacking is the chance to save in the middle of the game

I know it said we can control all 30 teams and we were able to do that last year my question on this subject is Can we sign Free Agents to their correct teams in Franchise this year? Last year you could make trades, release, and re-sign(Contract) players but you couldn't sign free agents to any other team but the one you are controlling. Just wondering if we are able to do all of that this year? Thanks

Also can we select uniforms for both teams in franchise or are we limited to just teh user controlled team?

Holy Goodness. God please let the supreme court overturn the nfl license so that we can have this in nfl2k11. besides that this is great. i have always been a big fan of 2k and now that VC have the baseball game to, its lights out for the competition. only this time sony cant buy the mlb license cause 2k have it.

When I say you have control over all 30 teams, you are making every decision for every team. That includes trading, player re-signing in the offseason, dealing with injuries, etc.

As for uniform selection in franchise, you can put either team in whatever uniform you want (including home uniforms when they are away and vice-versa).

Thanks SimBaller I appreciate it. One more thing I don't know if you can answer this but are retractable roofs in this year? Will we have the option to choose open or closed? also when you play in place like Houston,Arizona, and Milwaukee will teh roofs be closed depending on the weather? Thanks again

Does the game also have AI offered trades as well? I don't have any of the MLB 2K series but it looks like I soon will.

This game may just stop me from buying a PS3 for the Show... 2K9 sounds like a huge improvement from last year cant wait....does anyone know when the demo drops?

Day 1 purchase. Woohoo! Awesome stuff 2k. Congrats.

*crosses fingers*

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. Sometimes when a team starts over like this, it takes a while for the game to get to where it needs to be.

But these do sound interesting.

Sounds interesting, but I would still like to see 40-man rosters, waivers and such. Not a bad start, though.

This is sounding better and better. Plus I have more trust in 2K than anyone else. Even if the game has issues they will usually address them with a patch. (College Hoops 2K8)

WOW, outstanding read. Rebuilt from the ground up, music to my ears.

Jeez, you are so right, I can only imagine what football would be like if vc were allowed to make an NFL game. I think it's safe to say it would be outstanding. sigh....

REALLY? Now that is great news. This game just keeps getting better and better. Again the greatest one year leap in video gaming history IMO.
