Playstation.Blog has posted another MLB 09 The Show blog. This one covers the little things that help the game shine.

Quote:
"Hey everyone, Greg Batalucco (Game Designer) and Clayton Read (Associate Producer) here to bring you the next installment of the MLB 09 The Show blogs. This entry will focus on all the little details added this year to The Show that give it an added touch of realism. For this year’s version we wanted to make the game as accurate as possible and included in MLB 09 The Show are actual team mascots, new and improved stadium jumbotrons with game related movies, K boards, realistic crowds, and improved lighting and skies throughout the stadiums. All these enhancements add to the overall gaming experience to make MLB 09 The Show as real as it gets."

Hmm that makes me think if they'll have Nancy Faust in this or any of the other future games. I honestly think it would be a nice touch to have the fans singing "Na-Na-Hey-Hey Kiss 'em Goodbye." when the manager takes out the opposing pitcher. With the custom chants and the custom soundtracks, we should be able to do it even if it isn't already there.

Speaking of "The Little Things"...

I'm in the first inning of a game right now, and I've hit 2 bombs, followed by a double...as Kazmir walked back up to the mound he let fly with a big loogie on the grass just behind the mound....Fantastic!

I was just wondering, do you guys have the splash hits and counter at AT&T Park?

Tremendous job - what else is there to say? This game will own all - Period.

Wow.

Does Turner Field have fireworks out of the coke bottle after a home run?

I spent the last 3 years in DC, and went to my share of O's games. I have to say, you Sox fans are so obnoxious with that chant . All game long . . . and there was always more red and blue than orange and black at the O's-Sox games. Bmore folks need to rep their team better!

It sounds like that scenario is going to be realistically portrayed in this game from the blog, and that's just nuts. Baseball is all about the little things--every stat, every detail of the atmosphere. It's amazing what lengths they're going to to deliver those little things.

Okay, so it's a made up term, but it's still true. Now as for the crowds, I wonder if we can hear, for example, a "LET'S GO RED SOX" chant in baltimore when we've beaten them into submission in a game there. It happens frequently (sorry O's fans...not trying to mess with you guys or anything) so it would be a neat touch.

Anyway, great stuff!

A-Rod's new stance is perfect.

This game is going to be out of control.

- it's only Feb 10th on the West Coast.

It all looks absolutely stunning. I'll make all your egos a bit bigger: you guys are phenomenal listeners - thank you for taking our community seriously enough to implement changes we've all been asking for. This month cannot move fast enough!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the hitting is as improved as people say it is.

lol...it's so true...and kinda sad. I actually didn't chant after my first game there (used to live in VA Beach for 8 years, so I went to quite a few), I just felt guilty...lol.

It's no fun picking on teams like that. I kept thinking "come on Baltimore...show some love."

But yeah, it's awesome. Now, if they can capture my father-in law (an Astros fan) dumping beer on overzealous Red Sox fans at Minute-Maid and calling them "stupid, loudmouthed f*cks," and then getting into a pissing contest with security, then I'm really gonna be impressed...lol.

The statue of my son's namesake outside of PETCO is such a great touch. My wife thought it was an actual photo.

ESP with how bad the month is still gonna get. I agree let's play ball!

I just can't wait to see the progressive lighting in ALL the stadiums. this game's atmosphere will just make every game feel diff now. whereas the gameplay last year did somewhat now the visuals catch up and make it just a a utter joy to spend time with for all 9 innings worth.

Even though the player models stayed the same and even though there's no breath OR rain this is still just enough to make the game's longevity easily worth two franchises full now

I traded in my 360 last year for MLB 08 (and blu ray)
and I have never looked back.

I bought MLB 2k8 and 1 day later traded it all in, the guy at gamestop juts laughed, turns out I wasnt the first guy to do it.

I thought 08 was perfect and now that ive seen 09 it looks like it will be the last baseball game I buy until the new generation of gaming systems!

My goodness, I just watched the video... MY JAW IS STILL ON THE GROUND!

I do not know how I will sleep if my jaw hangs off the bed.

The details are SICK. The Ivy, Mr. Padre, Bernie Brewer, Sting Rays, Mascot Dance competitions, Vendors walking isles, People "scooting" out of the isle, only to walk normal in the main parts and stairs ... WOW!

The jumbotrons and LCDs are INSANE to boot!

I am thoroughly impressed SCEA. You have outdone yourselves, once again.

How dark it is at the start of the game depends on the day of the year so don’t be surprised if your spring training game is dark at 7pm. All of these little details add together to help immerse you in the game, and bring you back to the core - playing hardball.
/faints

Blzer, you question about time of year and lighting being effect has been answered.

And the crowd thing mentioned about certain fans 50/50 some have more visiting fans, die hards, etc, WOW!
