wow I might just pass on the 360 version and get the PC version if it is 19.99 as NBA 2K9 PC edition was...

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. Plus I have a really nice video card in my PC, so games generally play smoother and look better on my PC than they do on my 360.

Hmm....Might be the way to go after I test it out on a console

It goes back to the Madden PC vs Madden 360/PS3. The console versions had way more features and better graphics, etc than the PC version did.

NBA 2K9 got a good review for PC. It was basically the same game as the console version, so VC knows how to make PC games too, and I'm guessing MLB 2K9 for PC would be pretty much the same as the console version. Companies these days usually just port the console version over to PC.

Great to see a PC version is coming. Unfortunatley I will pass unless I can get a better video card. It makes more sense for me just to get the PS3 or 360 version.

I'd be really surprised if it weren't true. Otherwise, why would they put the PC logo in the trailer?

But yeah, a confirmation from the developers would still be nice.

Ron on the 2k forums responded to one of the posters by neither confirming or denying, but more over a hint that it will be. He said to read into as you will.

Nice find

A potential PC version of MLB2k9 makes things very interesting for me. It virtually eliminates the #1 problem I've had with 2k baseball over the past few years as a PS3 gamer - the framerate. I have FOM and it runs butter smooth 60 FPS on my PC at all times, so if the in-game engines are even remotely similar I can't really imagine getting frame dips like the PS3 has had recently.

What will probably happen is that I'll give it a rent on PS3 to try out the gameplay, read the PC impressions for any mention of framerate issues, and then buy it if I liked what I saw on the PS3.

Can we expect modding anyone? like NBA 2k9 has.

# 12 punkmonk1021 @ 01/31/09 02:00 PM
i was wondering the same thing. i used to love playing mvp for pc because of all the mods that make it more realistic.

# 13 dahc @ 01/31/09 04:54 PM
That's what made MVP 05 for PC so great, all the mods making the stadiums completly realistic with ads and banners. This is a good thing.

If 2k9 has framerate problems, it will most likely be on every version including PC. In this case, it's not the hardware that affects it, it's the design of the game bro.
PC hardware has a HUGE effect on framerates, in that if your PC isn't up to spec, the game will run slowly or not at all. They aren't consoles, and not every person who buys a PC game is guaranteed that their PC will run it.

And, however rudimentary FOM's graphics may be compared to 2k9, the fact is that it is the first graphical baseball game (even partially) to be released on the PC since MVP '05. In other words, there's been nothing else since then to compare it to. You can only really go off the system requirements for that game to get an idea of what 2k9's will be.

It's still an in-game baseball engine, and still takes the necessary PC power to run it. FWIW, the minimum specs for NBA 2K9 and FOM are quite similar (NBA takes more processor and HD space, but the video req's are similar):

FOM:

PC Processor Speed
1.5GHz

PC System Memory
512MB RAM

PC Video
DirectX 9.0c-compatible NVIDIA GeForce 6 video card with Vertex/Pixel Shader Model 3.0

NBA:
PC Processor Speed 2.4GHz

PC System Memory 512MB RAM

PC Video 128MB DirectX 9.0c-compatible ATI RADEON X1300 or NVIDIA GeForce 6600 video card with Shader Model 3.0 support

Games that are available on PC and consoles always run smoother on PC if you have nice hardware (games such as Oblivion, GTA 4, etc) because the developers aren't limited to specific hardware and users can change the graphics settings to match their hardware. There are several games that had choppy framerates on 360 but ran great on PC. I'm guessing even 2K8 would have ran better on PC as well because there have been times when DiRT racing ran like crap on my 360, yet it runs smooth as silk on my PC. Of course I paid more for my video card than I did for my whole 360, so that helps, hehe

This is great news and awesome to see that a sports game developer is actually giving the PC attention. Could we see the next versions of 2K's NHL, and, dare to dream, FOOTBALL games hit the PC as well? *drool*

Anyway, I look forward to this and will absolutely buy it, we PC sports gamers have to suppor these games whenever released in the hope of seeng more.

Having said that, it will A) have to be a quality game from the beginning, and B) be HIGHLY moddable for the MVP Baseball 2005 community to latch onto it, because that game is unbelievable thanks to the community mods. The realistic stadiums, amazing looking jerseys, totally accurate rosters from A to MLB, gameplay tweaks, etc, the game is just amazing thanks to people who do it all for free.

So while the graphical upgrade of 2k9 will be great to see, it's still going to have to be a quality game to make an impact on the PC. NBA2K9 was easy because the Live games on PC are horrible. But MVP 2005 has been great for a long time.

I really hope 2k isn't screwing any pc'ers out there. Hopefully they will incorporate online play or at least ip to ip. If this baby does come out, mvpmods.com is going to have a massive immigration of new mlb 2k9 users everwhere on the internet. I'm praying this thing will be moddable.

I got a kick out of Ron's post on this:

"As I insinuated in my other posts the past couple weeks and as the trailer gave away, yes MLB 2K9 will be on the PC. I was planning on releasing that info officially today, but it was basically confirmed already."

Sounds like he did a Picard-esque facepalm when the trailer let it slip that it was going to PC.

Anyway, good news. Waiting to see the price point, because if it's only $20 like NBA was, I might not even wait to rent the PS3 game.

Now if 2K can just make my dreams come true...and release All-Pro Football 2010 or something, on the PC, completely moddable... EA will be shaking in their boots again like when NFL 2k5 came out. I would buy 2 of them just because! I wish someone would emulate the Xbox version and bring it to PC! I like Madden 09, but there's something about 2k5 that will always reign! All Pro Football gameplay is good too...but not like 2k5. Who's with me?

Take a few deep breaths and look around...lol. This is the 2K baseball forum. Probably not the best place to start your crusade.
