Fairly new to the series...

Kept the demo for Skate on my PS3 for a pretty long time....enjoyed the 2nd demo and picked this puppy up. I'm still learning but online is dam fun....played with aukevin last night and we had some laughs doing some gap challenges.

Online is a bit like burnouts online.

Played a few hours of the career....It will be very hard for me to beat the game my stick skills aren't there yet!

Enjoying it a ton though...a great time waster.

Grinding is so dam satisfying!!

Question with playing S.K.A.T.E. versus the pros. Can you do grinds, grabs, and manuals this time and make them count? In the first Skate, they didn't register as tricks. It made it harder to come up with fresh moves to do (though this time it may not be as hard with some of the new things you can do).

No, grinds and manuals, whatever don't count (at least in the Pro challenge).

I have heard (but didn't test) that you can pull cheap 540s with foot plants - initial 360 and 180 after the plant - and it will be scored as a 540. Someone should give that a try. I quit the pro challenge in disgust when it seemed like half the time on my turn the game would randomly start with a half kick and I couldn't even clear the stupid rail.

Question: I completed the first 2 SBM shoots and haven't seen another in a long time. Any idea what triggers the 3rd shoot? I've already got the Thrasher cover, and have been working on the contests and occasional race.

My skate friend, who's not registered here. Says to attempt to pull off a triple kick-flip or heel-flip to beat Koston/Carroll. Be careful, as you can't repeat it too much.

I've read that for the Throwdowns you can simply choose the Library location and then "just drag the bench where they land, and do whatever (trick you want)" for quick and easy wins lol. Haven't tried it yet, but i wonder if something similar would work for the Koston/Carroll challenge...?

My buddy said that Koston/Carroll can't do a triple kickflip. It's like it's not programmed into their trick library.

I haven't tried it. I just got the game, and I royally suck at it. I can't complete the Big Air over the Water Fountain
Spoiler

I beat that by dragging a ramp up the stairs and using it to get enough air. Don't forget to attach it to your marker, sometimes security will push it out of position.

I got past that one. Once I gave it a second look I couldn't believe how easy it was...

Now I'm facing off against some guy in the huge compound. He always outscores me like crazy...

I'm sorry I don't remember the names. I haven't followed skating in awhile, so I don't know who the pros are...

I can confirm that you can use kickplants for easy 540s on the SKATE challenge.

However, just getting to the point you can set a trick is still a collosal pain in the butt. I got Carrol out and had Koston down to one letter but I lost control and Koston did really simple tricks that I missed because my flickit skills aren't precise enough.

Best chance to pass this with the least effort possible is to restart every single time Koston lands his first trick and hope you get Carrol to bail or repeat a trick before you get all your letters and then spam 540s using a kickplant. With any luck you won't somehow accidentally hit the rail before you get all 5 letters on them. That last part is what has kept me from finishing this once and for all.

That's what a lot of people at GameFAQS are saying too...I'm just gonna pass on this one for a while though, I don't think I could pull off 5 in a row quite yet.

The only tricks I know Koston/Carroll cannot do are 540s (someone said that they called a 540 trick, but I know they cannot repeat them). So if you can swing it to do a 540, then they will generally take the letter and not even attempt it. I'm glad others here have picked up on that. I can only do it with nollie laser flips, though. I haven't tried the kickplants.

Absolutely hard challenge. I took over an hour doing it, and my winning try was about a half hour. I had only one letter that time, but I had to pull out 2 540s. The worst thing is that if you answer every one of their challenge tricks, they can still keep going. I'm glad that they occasionally botch tricks or repeat the same tricks.

By the way, the "Already Been Done" list for the first game was 3. This one is 5, so you need to vary your tricks more.

Yes that killed me more than once, because with 3 tricks it was easy to make sure you had no accidental repeats by doing pop shove-its in opposite directions and one ollie/kick/heel flip, then do nollies of each. I guess the best thing here is to do 3 actual tricks and then do a couple throwaways that you know have no chance of bailing.

It's Danny Way. When you jump in start with a big trick so your multiplier will be maxed for the next 2 big jumps. Jump over the top of the loop and hope you hit that trick then up the next wall for another big trick. Do a smaller trick over the next small jump to keep the multiplier going. Then there's another bigger jump you should be able to get a big-ish trick off,try to NOT land in the pool then just keep going to the last wall hit one more big trick and exit. Then just repeat it since it's best of 3. I got screwed over on #2 I finish with one second left in the lead and he gets another 1000 points from somewhere,it's not fair when they don't have a timer too. That also applies to races.
I figured it out. Danny Way challenge is still getting to me, but I just have to plan my route better.

I'm slowly but surely getting the hang of the controls. I changed my trucks to looser so I wasn't making such tight turns and running into walls.

It's a start.

Haha, this trick works great to knock off the Throwdowns super quick! Otherwise you'll have to rely on Triple Heelflips/Kickflips which they can't do, although they do occasion bail on other tricks (i have seen a few Pros land 540s here though).

But the trick won't work for the Koston/Carrol challenge, because all move-able objects are removed when you activate that Pro challenge...oh well. I still can't land a 540 here using any method (ie: normal or footplant) and my triple boardflips are too inconsistent so i'll pass on this challenge for now.

If you travel up the spillway at the Koston/Carrol challenge you'll find a bike rack that can be used for this cheat.

So I've completed everything but the Skate Magazine Cover Challenge, the throwdowns, the hall of meat and a few kill the spots but the Skate Mag Challenges have been gone for a few days. Did I break my game somehow?

# 76 ChubbyBanana @ 01/28/09 03:19 PM
This game is one of the most fun and also most frustrating games I've ever played.

I'm just not good at it yet. It's fantastic fun, but when I keep trying to grind down a rail and I overshoot it every attempt, I get frustrated...

And I don't even want to start to talk about the other skaters in competitions...

# 77 areobee401 @ 01/28/09 04:26 PM
I find career mode is best played for only 30 minutes at a time. Anything more makes me want to take my disk out break it only to glue it back together and break it again.

It's fun but drives me mad at the same time.

# 78 calcutta @ 01/28/09 09:22 PM
Even though alot of events took me 20+ attempts each, and that was frustrating, i found all the challenges enjoyable. The notable exception being any and all S.K.A.T.E. games which are just as laborious as they were in Skate 1. The Deathraces were more exhilarating than Skate 1 (though they were generally easy) and i spent an entire afternoon going through the entire Hall of Meat challenges without getting bored...landing a 20-metre drop onto a ped can never be dull no matter how often i fail

I haven't played it online...

This is one of the few games I don't mind taking half an hour to complete a trick...sure, I'll yell at the TV when I screw up, but when I finally hit it you get that awesome accomplishment feeling. I'm not counting the SKATE type challenges, those just aren't fun IMO.

I just enjoy either running through career mode stuff (I honestly haven't tried a race yet, I enjoy the trick stuff for the mags right now), and also it's great with a group online! Really fun game.

I think I may pass till this drops after reading about the frustrations. The first skate rose my blood pressure every time I played it and I think i may have taken a couple months off my life with the level of anger that would insue trying to beat some of the challenges.

I don't think I can do that to myself again.
