I got exactly what I expected. I wasn't expecting a major overhaul, and the off-board controls definitely do need some work. Only took me a couple of minutes to get used to them, though, and being able to just run up some stairs helped. They need an action game-style wall scaling ability to just get up medium-sized ledges, though. The thing is only a little over waist high, but I can't jump up and climb up on it?

Career is pretty fun and standard so far. I seem to be having the most fun with contests. But online has been awesome. I spent until 1 in the morning (when I had to be at work at 7AM) in a free skate with randoms. They have very cool free skate activities now that everybody in the room can choose to join or ignore. Things like having to hand plant off of both extensions in the Mega Park, or 13 different things that everybody has to do as a group (180 tail grab over a ramp, rocket air, 3500 point transfer, etc). Once all the goals are completed, it gives you a scoreboard of who completed the most individually, etc. Very cool. One had synchronized moves, where everybody had to get 2500 points at the same time. We failed that one miserably.

Overall, I had an absolute blast with the game, but I wasn't expecting them to reinvent the wheel. I really disliked the handrails having stoppers and things on them at first, but it didn't seem to stop any of the actual challenges, just my free skating.

I'm in the minority with actually having a blast with it, I think.

I cant wait to pop this in my PS3 tonight.

some of you guys complaining i dont get what you were expecting? a walking sim?... getting off the board did feel a bit sluggish but it is hardly something to hammer the game about.

It's skateboarding for crying out loud...

Last night I pretty much did the online freeskating competitions, they were fun. But I'm looking forward to checking out the city and making some of my own spots.

Thanks Terry for your comments...I'll be picking this up, I was pretty much going to get it anyways, but you cinched it. My worries about the locked down city are less of an issue, and it'll be fun. I'll probably see you online this weekend!

Great to hear! Some of our Skate 1 sessions over that mega jump were hilarious.

The activities in the free skate really give you a loose, but objective-based session now. I really, really enjoy it.

What camera are you guys using? I have been using the high camera, its ok. It does not look as good as the other camera view but it is a lot eaiser to see ahead.

Definitely the high cam. At first I had a problem judging the jump for grinds, but now it works great.

How is the online play? I didn't play online last year because well I didn't want to. But, it seems to be a blast from the impressions (great ones by the way) that everyone are leaving.

Just some basics. Like what game modes are in the online play? I'm picking this up tonight and I'm at work so any replies would be greatly appreciated.

I love this game...then again, I knew I would.

Within the first 20 minutes of playing it I was so happy to see that they eliminated the random video shoots, and went with a more realistic approach to the challenges.

The walking is fine for me albeit a bit cumbersome...Overall, this was my biggest wishlist option as this has already changed the dynamic of the entire game for me.

The engine is similar to OG skate with minor improvements, but thats all I was hoping for.

Anyone that likes to play sim (meaning; doesnt throw backflips to bluntslides and similar fake *** tricks) I would love to get a session going online (X360)...hit me up; my gamertag is ezekiel55.

I need to learn to be sim. Some of the scoring challenges ruin me. How you supposed to get 12,500 points in 2 minutes without doing some BS? Plus I'm not sure where to draw the line between arcady and sim. What are some flip tricks (minus spins, ei: 360 spin 360) that are arcady?

I don't understand how this game is not a sim. I've played TH and those games bleed arcade. It's not like that at all.

Can someone tell me how this game is not a sim

i tihnk you can do some pretty wild stuff for tons of points that arent possible in real life...

BUT you can play this game as a simulation of real skateboarding because the foundation is based in reality...

In Tony hawk the speeds and heights you got off jumps and ramps was just so out of control you could try to play it as a simulation but it was just an excersise in frustration.

I'd say the best way to learn sim skateboarding is to watch a skate vid...youtube has some great parts from guys like Chris Haslam, Koston, Dyrdek, Chris Cole, and Greg Lutzka.

Give those a watch and you'll see some nice/real tricks...Obviously, its just a game so have fun with it anyway you choose to. I just tend to go for smooth stylee tricks as opposed to the more unrealistic tricks.

What I enjoy the most about this series is the fact that I can skate "sim" with ease. I don't have to worry that im going to get stuck on a house and grind it.

It's funny that something as simpe as doing a kickflip down a flight of stairs then riding 15ft and grinding the hand rail down the next set can be so satisfing.

btw i cant find the game anywhere

Nah, just a little more functionality is all. I'm not looking for Assassin's Creed type of animations and ability... But goodness, at least let me run up some of the steeper inclines in the skate parks for cryin' out loud.

And it's not a knock on the game really... It just sticks out because it's so ugly compared to the rest.

Can anyone with the game answer this question?

I never had Skate, but I played it at a friend's house and thought it was pretty fun. I had a lot of trouble with it though, and I couldn't really do any cool tricks. I downloaded the Skate 2 demo and thought it was awesome. Now I'm considering purchasing this, but not sure if I'm really gonna be that good at it.

Based on my experiences from last night:

You have Own the Spot, Jam Sessions, Best Trick (usually a 3 round affair where you only count air tricks, grinds, and open, etc), Hall of Meat bail contests, S.K.A.T.E., and a Free Skate.

Within each Free Skate environment you also have a bunch of little challenges that you can start with whoever wants to at any time.

I agree with the "sim" comments. I spent probably 30 minutes just doing simple flip tricks to handrail grinds last night in some little plaza I found. I was kicked back in my recliner while playing it, and noticed that I kept pointing my toes or twisting my foot around. My wife was getting a kick out of it. I always make fun of her for interpreting her video game character through her own motions...leaning left when trying to run left, etc. Last night she got to do the same to me.

-High camera is nice, probably gonna switch to it.

-Game is taking forever between cutscenes and challenge screens, kinda annoying. Didn't see anything like that in the demo.

-Graphics look equal to the demo. Cutscenes are still taking forever though...

-OMG, WTF. The loading screens are taking forever. Is anyone else having this problem? What is with the plain white screen?

-The environement seems a lot less empty so far.

-Skated by a bench with some NPC's on it. When i went by the moved their feet in so they didn't get hit. Thought that was kinda cool.

More to come!
