We have just posted our hands on preview of MLB 09 The Show.

Quote:
"A lot of The Show’s charm comes from its ability to surprise you even after you have played it for 30 hours. Whether it is a new cut-scene you have never witnessed before or a new fielding animation that suddenly pops up for the first time, those are the moments when many gamers really appreciate The Show as a franchise. And that is why it is kind of tough to size up MLB 09: The Show (and most other baseball games) in preview form.

In real baseball, it is easy enough to figure out who the stars are and why they mean so much to their respective teams. Yet, it is the little things that are done on the field and in the dugout that will ultimately determine which teams are the most successful. In that same way, it is easy enough to realize that the core mechanics of MLB 09: The Show –- hitting, pitching –- are solid overall, but it will take many hours of playing time to decipher whether or not MLB 09: The Show is another game of the year contender."

Not a bad word in the review, sure there were a couple things he mentioned and then quickly after he mentioned how like in certain situations I see how this could be alright. His nose is a little brown IMO.

Maybe the game is just that good?

It is a preview, not a review. You can't hold a game-maker accountable for an unfinished game.

There's a difference.

While I noticed this, I didn't notice it in the same way that you did. It sounds like an improved version of the 2008 installment. He made no mention of improved AI (though he was only there for a short time and didn't read from a features list, instead pointing out what he saw himself), didn't delve into commentary, and he didn't point out signature batting and pitching animations. Basically, while he gave us good stuff, he didn't go on what somebody would call a "bias spree" and throw out every positive thing this new game will give us.

This preview was fair, and at this point there's not much that we can say as to what is considered biased anyway when the "other game" has no previewable content whatsoever at this point in time.

By the way, I love the Hey Arnold reference.

exactly, like Chase said inthe preview, the little things add up. Thats one of the things that makes this game special.

Hey Jim when do you guys head out to play the game?

Man, all of this sounds great. SCEA and the development team sound like they "get it".

With that being said, this Show virgin will be buying a PS3 this year for this game specifically. Is there room in the club for one more?

It is worth the PS3 purchase. I bought mine last month mainly for The Show. It is such a great game.

Im a bit worried about some of these early previews?! Doesnt seem like there is any WOW factor about this years version?! I was hoping everyone would come back and be like;"Holy Sh-t this game is the end all be all!" Anyways its still early and Im a lil anxious thats all! Cant wait to start doing rosters! Hey Knight if you need any help this year let me know ok! The more that help the quicker we can all get the rosters up right! Wish I had a time machine to get to March 3rd! Got both MLB 09 and the release of the new U2 album! Took 3 days off lol!

Any chance that there is co-op in the game like the way All-Star Baseball had it?

this looks great. as far as some people responding as disappointed in the lack of 'wow' factor or this possibly not being the 'end all be all'...i dont think that 09 was aiming to do that.

08 was definitely a WOW factor. Best overall baseball game i've ever played. the big problem that i saw are the models and some animation issues along with a few gameplay issues.

they've already said that they wont have new models until 2010 at the earliest...so this year seems like it was just about fixing some of the gameplay issues...and increasing things like franchise options, etc...

so...i've been excited about 09 and will buy it on day one (if i cant find it earlier)...but from what i've seen...i think that 2010 will much more of a "wow" factor than this year. just a thought.

i believe that no other sports game is going to touch this one except for mlb 2010 the show. madden has no chance and etc...

Bring it On!!!. Im really looking forward to this release. I was a casual baseball gamer and fan til I played THE SHOW.
The catcher giving signals, WOW thast a nice little add on, but oh so obvious, a "why didnt I think of that" moment .

Wow, this game is an easy buy for me once again. However, like most of us, I am eagerly awaiting any additions to franchise mode. I truly hope they added Single A clubs and/or rookie ball teams to go along with the draft and its supplemental picks. I would be disappointed if players started off in double A again. But other than that, game looks top notch and am looking foward to it.
