Playstation.Blog has just posted their MLB 09 The Show blog, featuring Franchise Mode enhancements.

"Hey everyone - MLB FE team here to bring you the first installment of the MLB 09 The Show blogs. For this entry, we’ll be talking about some of the details that have gone into the Franchise mode enhancements.

When we set out this year’s plan, one of our goals was to blow out the personnel aspects of the Franchise experience. Starting with the beginning of spring training, the rosters you will carry into spring will be those of their real-life counterpart, the long awaited 40-man rosters. Now you will have to manage your Spring Training roster a little more carefully to ensure your young players get the looks they need.

Moving on to the regular season, you will now be dealing with many of the various roster-related items all GMs have to deal with. You will be in control of designating players for assignment, waiver transactions, handling Minor League options, and managing your 40-man roster. Once in June, you will have the Amateur Draft to participate in. Along with drafting players, the Amateur Draft also includes Supplemental picks for those teams that failed to re-sign Type A or Type B free agents in the offseason."

MLB 09: The Own!

Sweet additions. So much depth now in Franchise it is almost overwhelming. I am going to love it. Especially more so knowing that stuff is in Season and RttS modes as well!

I knew that many of these new things were going to be in such as 40-man roster, and September callups. But hearing that you'll be able to use all of the players in spring, the stuff about the Rule Five Draft. This game is going to be very realistic. It's awesome!

I with you on the franchise/season options TT. MLB The Show has added exciting depth to an already great baseball experience.

This is an excellent point that I'm surprised has gone undiscussed. Hopefully, there will be at least a short season A to address this.

Other than that, an overwhelming wealth of depth. I expected a few of these things would be in this year, like 40-Man rosters and waivers, but while I hoped we could get all these things in time; 40-Man, waivers, player options, Rule 5, Arbitration, mid-season draft, never in my wildest dreams did I expect them to all come in one year. At this point, the only thing that I can think of that I really want and hope we see in the future is the ability to add expansion teams and relocate franchises (though I'd be happy with just expansion). Besides improved franchise, AI, of course. That always needs to get better.

does this mean that we will finally have real minor leaguers in the game. have they finally allowed the real minor leaguers to be in the game with no fake names? this is what it sounds like to me as worded.

I believe so, considering they are on the 40-man roster, they have to be considered in the MLB, right? Thus a higher potential for more real minor league players (since some major league players signed to minor league contracts will be on there too), but obviously not ones (minor league players) that didn't appear on the 40-man.

I don't think they can, mlb. My understanding is that a player must be a member of the MLBPA and must have played at least one game in the bigs. The only way that would be possible is if the players union changed their requiements.

I remember a thread in another forum that asked the question "How much would you pay for the perfect sports game"

I believe I may have the answer soon enough. Seriously, Rule 5 and compensation picks for FA...unreal.

Very interesting. With these additions (if well implemented), they aren't far from competing with 2K's Front Office Manager game.

From pastapadre site.

Last week it was OXM that had the first review for MLB Front Office Manager giving it a 5/10. Now the latest edition of Game Informer includes a review along with a second opinion where it received scores of 3/10 and 5/10.

It looks like 2k has a way to go.

speaking about the minor league players it is true u have to play at least one game in MLB to be legally part of the MLBPA which is why every year thus far u would start to see a few new players on each team in the game little by little.they were qouted saying in another scea forum saying that they have paid close attention to getting every minor league player who has seen action into the game this year.but they are still goin to have fake names as there are too many slots to fill espicially with the new features/drafts.if u have the time to do so go on the site for your favorite team print out there minors rosters with all the bio and edit them to ur remaining "fake" players cuz the announcers do say the last names of the players in the game.(all common names anywayz)

Surprised I haven't seen this brought up, but if 40 man rosters, player options, etc. are going to be in season mode, I wonder if that that mean that minor league teams will be too. And if so, does that mean they will be on the PSP?

Minor League teams are already included, except for Single A and Rookie league. I don't know about the PSP side of things.

They are included in franchise mode, but not in season mode.

I would think they'd have to be.
