With just 6 days left until NCAA Football 09 drops onto store shelves, Patrick Williams checks in with an article discussing how EA is focused once again on visuals and atmosphere. Check out his article and be sure to leave feedback on whether you think EA's focus is sound!

Quote:
"It is no secret that EA has heard the consumers' cries for more atmosphere in games. Atmosphere is a word I have typed numerous times when referring to titles such as Madden, NCAA and NHL 0, and it is something that adds so much to the gaming experience."

yeah, a lot of things were changed in the menus from '07 to '08, especially the edit player screen.

I totally agree! WTF cares about being able to play as mascots!? That's the stupidest thing ever created for the NCAA franchise and is a total waste of whatever amount of space it uses up!

That really blows but hey, so does EA's yearly improvements to the Madden and NCAA franchises since buying the exclusive NFL and ESPN rights!

Not to be rude, but if you search "progressive lighting" in this forum, you will find the answer to your question at least a dozen times. No joke. It's already been explained better than I could, so look there.

I am not an EA ***** by any means but this would really play right into the theory that they remove features only to add them back later as a "cool" new thing. Since NCAA 08 was a next gen title and NCAA 09 is a next gen title, what excuse can they have for taking this out? When they moved from xbox/PS2 to XBOX360/PS3 they claimed they had to recode the entire thing and had to omit features to accomplish this. But progressive lighting was in 2008, why remove it?

Sorry if it get's everyone riled up but I really like the immersion of playing an afternoon game and seeing the lighting change. In a way, as the lights come on it really helps identify that the "3 hour grid-iron bash" is winding down. You are either running out of time or just need to hold out a little longer.......

I know it doesn't add to the gameplay directly but it really helped sell the illusion that you are playing a real sport that takes place in a real environment over an extended period of time.

Peace.
Totally agree! I was looking forward to how it would look with the new lighting and graphics improvements. Guess we'll just have to wait another year or 2 to get something we already had and will be labled as a new feature.

Also I was not personally stating that you took it out to add it back later and advertise it as new. It has been stated through the years that EA is famous for doing this. A feature that has been part of a series for 2-3 years mysteriously disappears for a year or two with no explanation. Then magically it is back and touted as a "new" feature. That is what many feel happens, and I was stating that removing the progression of day to night would only add to those that buy into that theory.

Sorry if it even remotely came out in a bad way. I just couldn't understand why that would have been removed. But alas I have been enlightened.

Thanks.
IMO, I think they should've left the lighting issue alone all together if it wasn't gonna be able to "drop right in". I think we all could except new annimations, gameplay, field textures, etc, ect in exchange for untouched or unimproved lighting system, 'cuase the lighting system in 08 was better than 07 and gameplay is what you MUST improve on yearly if you run out of time to improve on some other things. I think it would've been better for EA to get the lighting and progressive lighting issue ready for '10 in addition to whatever other new features they are creating or improving on.

Yeah I remember the momentum meter! Not that it made any sort of difference to me cuz all you had to do was score and it went back down, which wasn't hard depending on what team you were and who you were playing against. It was more hype than effective IMO.

If you arent kidding (and please please tell me this is a joke) theyve already said Mascot games take about half a day to get in there and take up no space.

Yea I do remember the momentum meter except is kind of chessy b/c i remeber the CPU having an unfair advantage. Cuz if they had a full meter and u got a pick six or a long run for TD it would only move the meter a lil.

So is Field Degradation not in either???? If so thats another blow to the "immersion factor"....and is something I love seeing over the course of the game.

OMT said it should have been in....and if it isn't I want to know what happened

# 76 nstod @ 07/09/08 05:47 PM
It had better have field degradation. It has it on their website, at least:

I know...thats whats so confusing, and it will only make me more disappointed considering they have been listing it as a feature

With all that extra space on the sidelines near the back off the endzone..why doesn't EA create and put the Unversity band there? College football is not college football without the bands !!!!!!

the developers should realize that people are really frustrated with the apparent lack of progress on the ps3/360 versions of the game. so yeah, people are going to be pissed about mascot games if the game still doesn't have things that were in the ps1 or ps2 versions. personally, i don't want someone spending 5 minutes implementing a mascot game if it's still a product that lags behind the last gen version.

and the "haterz" should realize that these guys are trying to fix the game and their hearts are in the right place, it's just going to take some time.

the reality is that the debacle of the 2006, 2007, and 2008 games means that we might get one quality, finished product this gen.
