NBA Live has thus far not translated well to next-gen consoles. Carlos Hernandez checks in today with an article talking about how Live can begin to close the quality gap between itself and NBA 2k so hardcore gamers will consider it again. Check out his article, Closing the Gap Between NBA Live and NBA 2k.

Quote:
"Whether fair or not, the differences between Live and 2K are obvious. EA has a way of dramatizing their new features that turn off basketball enthusiasts, making them wonder how long before the online community abuses the new addition in game play. Whereas Visual Concepts pours in so little information, which is vague at most, that gamers become more receptive to their motives and new game play enhancements."

Wow. It seems like that same guy made 3 accounts and attacked me with each username. Hes not an EA fanboy I swear. The best part is that he actually had a conversation with himself.

As long as EA keep pushing money into Madden NBA Live series been sucking. I was the BIGGEST live fan but since the Dreamcast area I have to give the 2K much props. The shifting of going left to right to blow by a person was dead on and needs to be put back in the game. Live's Models are great but it plays like a arcade game. 2K playbook actual release the fliud dunks and jumps win it over. Live need to get bakc to basketball basic stop looking at certain players as this type and look at stats and growth on a player. They need real NBA fans input. David west can't hit a 18 footer? stuff like that messes with the real fans nerves. All Big men cant stick guards Both games need to get rid of that like the Lock D thing should only be use in spurts and should drain the player over using it. When you see Kendrick Perkins guarding a Jamal Crawford you wanna throw your controller and Yell BS. Defensive awareness need to be cut down a lot...only about 30 people can lock down and only about 15 folks can guard out on the preimeter. When Lindsey Hunter is in the game the PG should be dang near handing him the rock cause of his great onball D. Rondo should be able to rip a ball from a post player but Sam I am should get shook to the ground when guarding a Chris Paul. Get real fans and folks that know the game involve then both games would be well worth everyones debate. Right now no question 2K is killing and has been KILLING Live...It is just the way it is. Live needs to humble itself and learn a thing or two from its master

I agree with you 100% Live needs to start hiring people that have been doing these modifications to the game to fit our interest such as Tomba and Playmakers from the Live Center forum and other guys who would use their time and energy to bring out the best out of this poorly made game. good direction though

TRUST FOR EA MONEY IS NOT AN ISSUE. it's just that the developers of Live don't have the creative talent to match up with 2k developers. plain and simple.

Considering one of the developers from 2k is now working on the Live team, I would say this is incorrect.

EA is not the bottomless money pit some think it is. I can tell you that first-hand.

Now if you want to say that a company spends more money in some areas than another, then you actually have a point. But that's why they're different.

To play devil's advocate, who do you think is the smarter company when it comes to advertising? I'd say 2k seems to be clueless when it comes to advertising their games.

I mean don't get me wrong 2k is a great game but it's starting to really show it's age. For the game to be so brilliant it sure were some WTF!?!? moments going on. Live is headed in the right direction. The folks at ea have there own idea about how the game should be made and it's not likely to change. They have a core stragey and they are sticking to it. The fact of the matter is that Live will never be 2k and 2k will never be live. They have there strong points and weak points but they will always been different. I'd like like to be more sim but they don't like that label. I've met the producers at a few community events(im a former mod)(same screen name) and that came out of there mouths. Those guys have some great ideas that will eventually shine. Like everything though it takes time

I don't think the ps2 is a good console to judge a game's graphics on! rofl

to be honest, after playing 2k8 all year for the past three years. im sick of it. (i have sold it two months early to give myself a break and hopefully when 2k9 comes out i will like it more than i am expecting to)

i dont deny the game is brilliant. but the gameplay is starting to look a little aged. its still the best bball game out there. but that doesn't stop me from being bored with it.

in a few years live will have a great game on their hands (and for those who dont believe it look at nhl 08-09, and fifa 08-09, two series' that have thrived on next-gen.)

2k9 looks nice. but the commentary and sound still sucks and the gameplay, minus a few new animations, looks the same.

a game with less faults each year is great, but what happens when you get bored. it needs to start evolving in a more substantial way, especially when you consider the core engine is the same that was used on last gen.

i'm not asking for a restart of the engine, just a new technology of somekind added to it to make the experience really fresh. a risk here or there.

this is the main reason i will be picking up both 2k and live together (the first time i have ever bought a live game) simply because i know after a (now surely shorter) while i will need something different from 2k9 to fill my basketball obsession. i dont care if live 09 is not as good as it looks, it will be different, and im sure after live 08 it will be very playable.

I agree with you on this part here about the boredom you can get from 2K. From 2k6 to 2K8 I always began to get tired of the games after a certain point because I would always let some of the games faults take away from my enjoyment of the game.

And I think most of that boredom came from not having a game to give me a change of pace. But this year looks different because Live looks it might be a solid bball game.

I think having a game that can give players a change of pace is great for basketball games because now players have two options instead of just one. So if one starts to get boring you can play the other for a while instead of having only just one option like it has been in past years. You can also eventually come back to the first with a fresh look at it instead of the negative look you may have left it with giving it more longevity.
