Madden 09 News Post

EA have sent over a Press Release announcing that Madden 09 has "gone gold". What does this mean? Well traditionally it means that the game is ready to ship. In this case it is simply an excuse for EA to build some additional hype around the game. Given EA's tight development schedule and its planned ship date of early August, the game would currently be sitting with first party developers (Microsoft and Sony) as their internal test teams do their best to find as many compliance issues as possible. Its not ready to ship yet, but unless MS or Sony tell EA they must fix a bug, nothing else will be touched. The good news however is that the EA Producers have already made it clear that they want to patch the game sooner rather than later.

EA also sent over some new Madden 09 screenshots and some videos.

Just going by the videos and blogs. This year more than any other year we should all know the pros and cons of what we are buying. Knowing that I'm looking forward to it being an extremely bright year for Madden football.

Isn't this much to do about nothing. I mean all that has happened here is someone in marketing blew their wad a little early.

To quote Flavor Flav. "Don't believe the hype!!" EA spends a lot of money on marketing and license and very little on game play this Gold label is another example of the hype machine EA is. Every year we are teased, blown away by awesome videos and gimmicks IMO if the game is good it will speak for itself the fact they tell you they are hoping patches come out sooner than later should tell you they are more concerned with making shipping deadlines than putting out a good complete game that has been tested and approved by true football gamers.

I really don't think there is any reason for concern here. But nothing can stop the conspiracy theories.

I don't think Ian and others here have just hyped the game. Sure they have some but they've also told us the bad things too. Some of those things really bug some people but for the most part a lot of what they say is bad does not bother me too awful much. But I guess to each his own.

Wow! People are quick to criticize. Deeming the game basically unplayable or thinking its going to have major bugs in it just because its gone gold, apparently early?

This forum never ceases to amaze me.

yeah, if it had gone late or nearly late then people would have said it was because they were too busy trying to fix all the bugs, LOL!

Wow. This is a topic about nothing. Its not even meant for hype. It just means the game is complete and ready for testing and manufacturing.

Yet people still bash EA?

wtf. Someone said he plays a game with no bugs and glitches? woah. Now who's really drink the kool-aid.

What does drinking the Kool-Aid mean anyways? I'm sorry I may be a noob to these terms.

# 37 Exonerated @ 06/26/08 10:42 AM
The saying "Do not drink the Kool-Aid" now commonly refers to the Jonestown tragedy, meaning "Do not trust any group you find to be a little on the kooky side," or "Whatever they tell you, do not believe it too strongly."Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly is famous for using the term in this manner.
Having "drunk the Kool-Aid" also refers to being a strong or fervent believer in a particular philosophy or mission -- wholeheartedly or blindly believing in its virtues.

After "I seen...", this is becoming the most over used phrase on OS.

I think what people are saying / believing is that the trust for EA / Madden has gone out the window with their next - gen installments. Many of us have been let down the past 3 years with this game and people just have come to expect something or many things to be wrong with the game. Now with the game having gone gold much earlier than other games do before shipping it just raises concerns / suspicions even more. Not sure we should be criticizing just yet but it does raise suspicions and based on the past few installments, I believe rightfully so.

Everyone wants this game to be great. I just want the game to be PLAYABLE, meaning I play it and am able to enjoy it and have fun. Time will tell.
