I really don't understand how Todd Collins is rated higher than Jason Campbell. Yeah he was great last year in a system he had been in for 7 years! Now they are learning a new offense and it one that Campbell has played in before albeit a different flavor of it. C'mon thats just silly.

IMO, only Top 5 picks should justify ratings in the 80s.

Seems a few QBs are over-inflated. Rothleisberger a 95? Come on! I know the game doesn't like having difference in QB's abilities, but even the real bad starting QBs are above an 80.

I really feel you on the inflation of player ratings and Scott on the inflation of rookies........... I wish that they would go back to the Madden 02/03 overall ratings calculation, where........

95-99 - Perennial Pro Bowlers, Future HOFers in their prime (Manning, Brady)
90-94 - Pro Bowl player, elite player (Palmer, Romo)
85-89 - Pro Bowl caliber, excellent player (Garrard, McNabb)
80-84 - Legit starter, very good player (D. Anderson, Garcia)
75-79 - Quality starter, good player (V. Young, Campbell)
70-74 - Adequate starter, okay player (Pennington, Big J. Russell)
65-69 - Fringe starter, quality backup (Beck, Flacco)

and so on and so forth.

That would take care of the rookie inflation problem; only a select few rookies (McFadden, Jake Long, and Big Glenn Dorsey for example) would even get to start out as an 80 and the 1st rounder after that can range all the way down to upper 60s, not disallowing a few 2nd rounders from getting in the low 70s.

I thought Woodley was a little underrated for the start of the season(at least an 82 IMO)....but I think we will see a nice jump over the course of the season....maybe not a "Silverback" leap but nice nonetheless.

I'll take my Bengals. Pretty decent ratings. But poor Rudy took a knock. I'll have lot easier time with this game as opposed to my Wolverines in NCAA. They got pounded on Talent, IRL and in game.......

You should be ashamed of yourself to call yourself an Eagles fan...he changed his name MONTHS ago...to Juqua Parker.

I just saw these ratings this morning and I'm also an Eagles fan was disappointed in some of these ratings especailly Mike Patterson only being an 84. He should at least be a 87-88, that is just ridiculous.

Whoa...Todd Collins is an 85??? WTF???

Wasn't he in the 70's or something last yr?

The guy plays the last 4 games of the season, never throws for over 300 yards in any of those games, loses in the playoffs, and get's an overall ratings increase by like 10 points???

I just don't get it...He shouldn't be an 85.

Bulger's an 89 and Garcia's an 89, Delhomme's an 85, Cutler is only one point better at an 86 and you're going to tell me Todd freaking Collins is right up there w/ them???

If the above is the "gold' standard in ratings breakdown then it even further baffles me how they can make Todd Collins an 85...?

# 34 ChuckMonts @ 06/02/08 12:38 PM
BCJMU99 actually Klecko has been a Goaline FB, LB, and DT for many years. It's not like he hasn't played the position in the NFL at all. He just hasn't played FB every down.

I was kinda stating that rating system was how it was in Madden 2003 which IMO was better........ not only would it make more use of the range between overalls across the league (the very worst players would be in the 30s only 10-12 players would be 95+), but it would let people better distinguish what a weakness on a team was.

Todd Collins would probably be in the 75-79 range if we currently used the overall rating equation they used back then.

He hasn't played FB for the Eagles...there, FIXED. Either way, 70 overal suits him fine. William Perry played the FB on the goalline doesn't mean you know the position.

I still dont get how you guys say what a player should be rated. It seems totally arbitrary to me. There has to be a better way to 'rate' players.

Would it be all that bad for players not to have any ratings, or have their ratings hidden? We know how good Manning is. We know how good LT is. WE should be able to 'rate' them based on how they play in the game. For rookies and draft classes, the only way to know if so
someone is good or not would be to use their scouting and see how they play on the field.

Example:

Rookie DE is 6'5 runs a 4.5 40 , benches 25 reps, has a 35 inch vert and scored a 20 on the wonderlic test. Then, give some college stats. That would allow the player to 'play' more rather than the game coming right out and telling you clear as day how good someone is.

# 39 jyoung @ 06/02/08 06:27 PM
Pretty accurate ratings distribution for the Titans, though all those guys at 88 seems a little arbitrary, and LenDale White definitely seems a little underrated at only a 84. At least they got it right that the Titans O-line is the strength of their offense.

The only real head-scratcher is how the Titans have all those highly-rated starters and only got rated a 84 overall (tied with Broncos for 18th best team rating) .

# 40 jyoung @ 06/02/08 07:28 PM
Also, it would be awesome if anyone can:

1) turn this data into a text file

2) compose some position-specific rankings for the whole league
