Madden 09 News Post

Wil McCombs returns from his long hiatus to give us another article, this time discussing why he hates (and why you should also hate) the Madden Mulligan feature. Check out his article here.

"A while back, I brought to light the debate of restarting your console mid-game, to avoid the agony of defeat. While the feedback of said article was largely not in favor of such an activity, I have a sneaking suspicion that last year’s Madden/NCAA turnover system led to an all-time high in in-game restarts."

I'm right there w/ this article...I hate that development time was ...

(1) used on this stupid "feature"

(2) used on this stupid "feature" which I will never use.

Just like the ring builder it's another dumb addition to this cheesy, arcade-fest, casual-gamer-catered-to, Madden game.

Take that EA...turd nuggets.

Will my team have the least amount of penalties in the league yet again this year? If yes then I hate that they put this in.

Will wind affect my FG kicks or will the only chance I have of missing a FG be short yet again this year? If yes I hate that they put this in.

Are there in-game save? We already know the answer is no thus I hate that they put this in the game.

Will weather affect gameplay this year or will it be the same with just a white field or an accumulating lake?

There is a reason to hate this feature regardless if you can turn it off or not. EA fails to address things that have been requested for years but adds goofy stuff like this. They are very fortunate they locked up that exclusive license.

Ive always wondered this....but i never asked b\c the Madden forum is 10 times worse than the Pro Basketball forum supposedley is...lol

does Madden say the games a simulation like the "other game" does w\ thier products?...if not, why would you expect the game NOT to be geared toward the casual gamer?

Look like the rest of you here I think this feature is unnecessary but I can see why some people might like it. I think all the bashing on EA for this is kind of comical and over the top honestly.

the feature is disabled online and I personally think you have to be about drunk to put this in here but thank god you can turn it off

Heh, as I said in another thread, this will be a great feature to use when I'm all tanked up on gin.

You have an alcohol problem. Every post is always with you playing football while blasted or "hocked up" on something.

Great site. But only because I care.

It was a SIM...All those titles on the PS2/Xbox were definitely made w/ the SIM gamer in mind...It's now that we've crossed over into the "next-gen" that Madden has just became a cash cow....w/ little improvement in the game given a better/more powerful operating system, and it has taken steps/jumps/leaps/miles backwards in comparison to the improvements it was making prior to the next-gen crossover.

It can be a problem at times. Like when I run out of gin.

I like the feature, especially if you are used to using the same plays over and over, it'll be easier to learn where open receivers are on the new plays you try. and of course you can't use it online. duh!

Very good read and I agree. It is always nice to have more feature but this wasn't really necessary. However, if the fumble/interception problem really is fixed than I guess no reason to complain.

# 75 Exonerated @ 05/25/08 11:43 AM
Stop complaining. Decent feature. I'll use it for the break down of the play by Collinsworth rather than the mulligan.

It just like on TV when they break down a play of where you went wrong. Except you get to mulligan.

So just watch the damn breakdown and don't mulligan. Stop spreading the hate.

Amen man, I will use the feature the same way.

Exactly, I'm the biggest EA/ Madden ***** around and I'm not even complaining about this feature. you're not going to be forced to use it.

QUOTE: "This season, EA Sports has inserted a devious little tool called the "Rewind" option, which will allow you to take a mulligan on a play within a game."

It will ALLOW you to rewind, not force you. I'm sure there will be an option to turn this feature off.

great article. I do think it is a step in the wrong direction and could be what you are saying. I hope not, but we'll all have to wait till august to know for sure. I know it will forever be turned off in my franchise.
