GameStop has posted their weekly Madden Monday.

Quote:
"If you're a Madden fan, passing the time from now until the August 12 release of Madden NFL 09 can be like watching the movement of the minute hand on a clock. Sure, you can watch the NBA or NHL playoffs, but it's just not the same, is it? And baseball? You'd probably prefer the clock-hand thing.

We're here to make it easier for you over the next several weeks because we're beginning a new weekly segment called "Madden Mondays." Exclusively here at the GameStop blog, we'll reveal a different feature for Madden NFL 09 every Monday that nobody else knows about. These are not necessarily THE new features of Madden NFL 09, but they are nonetheless interesting features that the good folks at EA Sports will reveal to us before they give them to anyone else. While they are keeping many of the core features under wraps until later, you can rest assured that they are working to make Madden NFL 09 the most realistic experience ever, and they would never just add purple horseshoes to their cereal and call it a day."

If you look real close I think you can see a bunch of tiny white spots. If nothing else it appears that M09's visuals are going to be a huge improvement on what was already a pretty good looking game.

That's the reason EA doesn't deserve a lot of credit for adding last gen features. People want them to go beyond what's already been done, not take years to implement what 2K5 and Madden did last generation. The problem is the game has been so bad that for some of you the only bar Tiburon has to meet is to simply make a competent game.
Thank you, you speak the truth. This is why i feared the return of this new producer on Madden 09. I'm afraid he'll be stuck in his last generation ways; giving us things from the ps2 and xbox version when what we need is completely new fresh ideas. When talk was on the "next generation" of videogames, i'm pretty sure we all imagined some pretty nefty features and gameplay elements that would be including in the game. Elements that couldn't make it in the past games due to their the limitation of the hardware.

Yet in reality what we got was less. We didn't even receive most of the ps2 and xbox features, they spent 2-3 years just reimplenting old stuff. And now people are in dire wanting of the last gen stuff over the elements we were all expecting from the next gen games.

This is why Backbreaker will be such a cruicial game. It might be that deciding factor. If it can get people attention, maybe just maybe, we might get a real physic engine behind the madden games. Imagine madden the way it is right now with a realtime physics engine like the ones Backbreaker is supposely using. They would no longer need to tire themselves in capturing mo-caps. They could spend all their resources in creating new exicting features and tightening up the game on a yearly bases.

To this day i still think that NFL Fever 04 had the best use of lighting and weather effects in a football game

I don't know, 2k always had very good lighting and good weather effects in my opinion. The way the snow would accumulate and wear down as players would run over it. Oh wait kinda like what EA is doing now 4 years later. In all fairness I will say that Madden 03 had snow that at least looked deeper then it does in the recent versions and the lines would get cleared off. They took it out in all versions following that year though, oddly.

No, it's not good enough. People want this generation of games to SURPASS last gen, not pull even with it. At this point, the only aspect of the game that has surpassed last gen is the graphics.

They will win when they produce a game that surpasses last gen... all last gen features, plus some new features, better graphics, better animations and better AI. Again, most would agree that only the graphics have been improved substantially.

Crawling makes it that much harder for people to imagine when this game will meet their expectations. At their current crawling rate, they may get all last gen features in by this year. But that leaves, what, another 2 years before the next generation of systems come out? Then we'll have another 3-4 years of EA crawling, catching up to the this generation.

That pic kinda looks pre-rendered/enhanced a little bit. I'll hold judgement until we see some bigger shots. One easy way to tell if it's a real Madden shot is if there is some degree of jaggies (since EA don't seem overly keen on turning the anti-aliasing up these days). It's too small to tell with that one.

I was speaking on the fact that people complained last year that LG features weren't in the game and now that they are, they are complaining that the features are old. I wasn't speaking about gameplay at all.

I think that they have made substantial improvements to all the above thus far. Maybe not to the degree that they should, but they have made improvements. And I am not worried about Madden surpassing last gen. It'll happen.

It was just an expression man. Before you can surpass something you must first equal it and that is what I think is going to happen with '09. I believe that '09 will be the first CG game that has almost everything (minus refs on the field) that were present in LG. Before we can gauge how far '09 has come from last year, we must first get our hands on it. Its premature to say that '09 is either a success or failure right now.
