We have just posted some NCAA Football 09 stadium comparison screenshots. You can read about the details over at the official NCAA Football 09 website.

Quote:
"On Field Textures

"One thing we're really proud of this year is our field textures. The level of detail has improved quite a bit. You'll actually be able to see the difference between grass and synthetic turf, which is something that's totally new. We also have field degradation, so the field will see realistic wear and tear during the course of a game."

On Stadium Lighting

"In years past our stadium lighting has been really dark for the dusk games. This year we have separate lighting controls for the environment and the player, so when the player goes into a shadow, you'll still see the same level of detail you'd see in the full sun."

On The Fans

"Home stadiums have never felt more alive. In the past our crowd colors used to be more mixed with neutral colors, but this year we're showing off the home crowd's colors in a big way. Inside the stadiums it's very clear which fans are supporting which team. There are pockets in the stadiums with sections full of visiting team fans."

On Other Improvements

"There are a lot of other detail related things we've done to make the stadiums feel more authentic. There is fog that adds more depth to the fields in the larger stadiums, mow lines during snow games, and more dramatic skies that help to improve the environments."

I wasnt going to say anything but you're right. The fans almost ruin the photos by themselves...EA? please see The Show & APF fans

Not necessarily, I've seen the same thing happen on the coin flip screen in NCAA 08 (360).

wow!!!

people will reach for anything to rip EA about. Now that the features list is up to date, at least its being said it will be, the grass textures have been fixed, the weather seems to be improved, and the lighting is where it needs to be, we have to move on to something else.

Let me ask you this. When you are in the middle of a game, how often are you paying attention to the crowd?

You have MLB 08 in your avatar, so you've obviously played the game. You can't tell me that there aren't times when you step back for a second and are just completely in awe of the stadium atmosphere, including the realism of the stands/fans. Visuals don't affect the gameplay mechanics, but they do greatly enhance the entire experience. I highly, highly doubt it took SCEA a very long time to add 3d crowds into the game. A next-gen sports game, IMO, especially one in its 3rd next-gen year, should not still have cardboard cutouts in the stands.

I've been a loyal EA gamer for years - the NHL series, Madden, NCAA, MVP. I haven't played madden in a few seasons now. MVP was always an amazing game. Nowadays, from my expereinces, NHL and SCEA's MLB series are leaps and bounds above everything else. Why? At least partly because the Devs actually take the time to go on forums and find out what the community wants in a game. I actually had an email conversation with one of the guys from SCEA, when I had sent in suggestions. Everything about those two games screams 'next gen'. I haven't yet gotten that feeling from this series yet.

Also, I don't necessarily think that there's a coincidence that the NHL and MLB series' both have competition and I love both games, and NCAA not having competition, and it not being so up to par recently. People here (including probably myself) will buy this game just because we love College Football and there's no alternative. Can't really blame EA there, I guess. NHL 08 was horrible on the PC for years, but until I got a PS3, I was stuck buying that because there was nothing else. I don't see the NCAA series being truly next-gen until someone else gives them a reason to.

Never, but it is good to know they look good and behave realistically. OS=developers pay attention to details or we'll call you out, sukka.

Yes I have played The Show and yes, I have at times, sat back and became immersed in the atmosphere surrounding the stadium/game. But let me say this about baseball vs football, (can't speak for hockey because I don't play nor watch the sport), but the crowd in a baseball game has a little bit more interaction with the game at hand. Fans reach for foul balls, they are right on top of the field and they chase and sometimes catch homeruns. All of this was implemented in the Show series this year.

In football its different. Most of the stadiums if not all, the fans are away from the field and there are no "souvenirs" for them to go after(ok maybe very sparingly). What I am getting at is that 3D crowds in a football game, while the would be nice, are not really a necessity. They aren't part of the action other than screaming, cheering, booing, and getting up and leaving.

And let me ask you this. Lets say that this year, EA put in 3D crowds, but yet left the features that they added this year, that people were begging for. How would you/the community feel then? What is more important, 3D crowds or the feature list to be brought up to speed?

And one last thing. Those screenshots are so far away from the field, that I don't know how you can already determine that the crowd isn't 3D this year, or at least had a makeover. Hell, the screenshots are so far back, that the players themselves, look 2D.

The stadiums are lookin real lovely! I'm glad to see EA showing comparisons and addressing "our" issues with '07 and '08. It would be no fun if EA Sports decided to list all of the "new" things for '09 this early!

Another thing I gotta mention and give EA some credit for is populating the end zones. I'm so glad they didn't leave them empty again this year.

I just hope they add Otto the Orange(syracuse's mascot). I know syracuse has been pretty bad of late but still, why cant they just port him over from March madness?

I agree, that was one of the first things I noticed about that screenshot, the fans look like crap (they all have these wired black outlines).

The new field textures and weather look great but, IMO, it looks like they backed off on the shadow detail a little and the textures in the stadium walls and walk ways.

Anyone now if they will still have the dynamic day to night lighting this year (hope they didn't take that out) and that real time Weather Channel feature?

Overall, I think it looks really good and the new fields look great but, it is about time EA tried to make the fans look a little better.

Very good point. Now that I look back, they weren't populated last year. So far, EA is gaining back some points with me.

The screenshots are awesome but for being a next gen game at its third year and not having referees, chains and goal post nets, is simply inexcusable....

QFT...yes, should be very embarrassing.....And whats worse is that no one has ever explained and or asked why the F*** this simple stuff isn't possible with consoles like these.....F***ing embarrassing to say the least by both the EA Devs and the Media at community day events for not calling them out on this BS

actually a one or two screenshots apparently show a referree and the goal post nets. But none have been said to contain the chain gang.

Look back thru a few of the posts in this thread and you'll see the apparent goal post net and the referee.

This was asked at the 08 Community Day.

They didn't have items like that in 08 to ensure the game ran at 60 FPS on 360 and 30 FPS on the PS3. It addition, they faced the dilemma of using time to add them in or use it on gameplay related features.
