MLB 2K8 News Post

2K Sports sent us the following update.

Quote:
"Just wanted to keep you up to speed on a downloadable update 2K Sports is working on to address some of the issues reported with MLB 2K8.

We have been made aware of certain gameplay experience issues within Major League Baseball 2K8 that may effect the enjoyment for some players, and we are in the process of testing downloadable updates for both the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 versions. Specifically, the Xbox 360 update will increase the frames per second to help improve the overall gameplay experience, while another update for both the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 will correct an issue in Franchise mode when playing as the San Diego Padres and attempting to move players to and from their minor league roster. These updates are currently undergoing technical review, and will be available for download shortly, free of charge.

We are also aware of certain gameplay issues with the Wii and PlayStation2 versions of Major League Baseball 2K8. While there is currently not an update available for these platforms, as they do not yet have the network capability to issue updates, our team is working tirelessly to find other alternative solutions to provide an improved gameplay experience. We appreciate the feedback from all of our dedicated fans, and will continue to provide other updates and information when available."

If you have any comments or concerns, state them here. 2K Sports will try to get us some feedback. Please leave the sarcasm out of this thread, if you have a serious question or concern, we'll try to get the answers as soon as we can.

1) Framerate issues
2) League Sliders + Fantasy Draft like last year
3) On-line Lag
4) More accurate Stat Tracking
5) Effective Steal / Hit and Run Sliders
6) That dumb 2nd / 7th inning commentary. It's awful to put it lightly.
7) Jerseys that were available last year to be re-added

If you could get a definitive answer on this it would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, I found it a little problematic when reading a post about the PS3 version is basically its not even confirmed that the PS3 framerate issues can be fixed with a patch. It's bascially the PS3 hardware itself. Then to compare your game to the Madden series, just blew my mind. Shows you the dedication to their product.

I've learned this lesson from 2K. I haven't purchased a game on release day in a few years. Never again. I wish everyone could show a little patience. Maybe they'd stop releasing incomplete games.

After hearing this news on no patch for the PS3, my Game will be on ebay tonight. I lost all respect in a lot of people who make and work on this sorry excuse for a baseball game. I'm done.

Three years of buggy games on the 360 drove me to sell my system, buy a PS3, and purchase MLB 08: The Show. I have played sports games all the way back to Madden on the Sega Genesis, and this developing practice of treating console games like PC titles (1. Release incomplete, poorly-tested game, 2. Gather customer complaints, 3. Release patch, 4. Rinse and repeat next year) has gotten very tiresome.

MLB 2K8 has driven me off of 2K sports games completely; I have wasted too much time and money with their titles. Color me a Sony and EA sportsgamer going forward.

I am considering doing the samething. I would not call it a sorry excuse for a baseball game. I'd rather call it an extreme let down on all the hype that was talked into the PS3 version (Pixelation/bad shadows/poor helmet reflections/horrendous fields/heads that turn white/bats that blink white). I would call it poor programming and not hardware issues like 2k is blaming it on. At the same respect, 360 users will have a good baseball game to play and not be completely robbed of their spring fever to play some baseball Everyone needs a little baseball!!!

Wishing I could take the first 12 seconds and last 10 seconds out of this video. Just listen to the overall message of the video and NOT the game. It hits it right on the head. This is the best sport boys.

I'm not sure I believe that however....the pitcher/batter interface doesn't lag, it's the fielding. I'm going to be REALLY disappointed if the online doesn't clear up.
I don't believe that either for the exact reasons you posted. I hope it is fixed though because I love using the new controls and would hate to eschew that just to be able to play an online game.

Many good issues stated throughout this thread that should be addressed by 2K, but the main bug I would like to see fixed is the complete and utter lack of pitcher injuries when simming games in Franchise mode. I have simmed through multiple seasons and NOT ONCE have I seen a pitcher at any level of my club go down with any sort of injury. This is a huge issue and kills realism for me.

This is the main issue I would like to see addressed. Thanks.

I was about to post that....they also need to fix the lack of k' there is when simming and the rained out games, everytime a game get canceled is like you pressed the restart gbutton instead of a rescheaduled game

It won't be fast enough to play games obviously, but you would still get the benefits of d-loading patches.

Thanks for the links but I don't have a router and really don't want to buy one just for this. Especially when the download times will be pathetically slow for the patches.

If there is no other way to get the patches/downloads...I guess I'll have to wait until my apartment gets rebuilt (burned down in a fire). Should be about 6-8 months.

Why do people keep saying there will be no patch for the ps3.

i think most people are saying that because other articles, and this one in particular, arent specifying that the PS3 versions patch will fix the framerate.. i honestly dont see how or why they would do that. i think its just a quote taken out of context and i'm sure they will fix the problem on both systems.. now the wii and ps2, thats another story.....

Will this patch fix the problem with trying to do a Franchise with the Padres?

The call up/send down glitch for the Padres? Yes.

I think a patch is out, or at least I had to update my game this morning. Maybe its just random thing, but let me know if anyone else had to update.

is it playing any differently?

Honestly, I don't see the framerate stutters anymore playing my franchise game. But I don't wanna get anyone's hopes up.
