The sidelines still look like crap. Wow, the crowd that I'm sure still looks like crap is going to have more color to it now. Why should that impress me? All the lighting and fancy graphic tricks don't mean a thing if the game still plays like total crap.

By the way, if you didn't notice yet, on the 360/PS3 EA just takes the Madden engine and makes it into the NCAA engine. THey used to be somewhat different. Not anymore. That is why the big feature for NCAA is branching/dynamic animations. That was the big deal feature of Madden 08.
Just to clear up the record, NCAA does not used a rehashed version of the Madden "engine" both games are developed with some overlap and if you remember NCAA had the same branching animations type system last year as Madden. This new system they are pulling out seems to be some sort of a natural advancement from last year and is definitely much different. Maybe it's me seeing this posted year after year when you know its not true but some people continue to swear by it, but it is definitely getting on the pet peeves list

One thing I find interesting about the screenshots is the empty stadiums...maybe they are redoing the crowds to be dynamic so some stadiums are empty etc.? You can see that the Autzen has bleachers and S. Miss's stadium has some chairs..not sure if that's how they are or not but if it is, thats pretty cool. Either way the models don't look bad to me, they aren't just jaw dropping but they look better than they have.

This will be the first time since super nintendo that I don't buy madden, and the first time since Weinke on the cover of Ncaa that I don't buy it. That is unless when they really start to reveal these games, I'm thoroughly impressed. Cause, there will be plenty of other games to keep me occupied. GTAIV, Metal Gear 4, SoCom, Killzone, NBA 2k9, Little Big Planet, and the new Mario Kart to name a few.
I'M sorry but i'm lost now that it looks like ea is tring to change you jump up and down!!! why did you buy last years game and the year b4 that???? like i said i,m lost...

It looks good, yes... but it looked pretty good last year.

Tell me about gameplay.

No, but as others have pointed out last year's models only needed to be tweaked, not overhauled. The real test will come when we see how different the linemen models look.

They will achieve these things if they build brand new next-gen engines and stop using the old one. They have the most money of all the publishers and developers, but put out the worst games, and if you don't believe this, you are truly brainwashed. I have always been a supporter of Ea (since i was like 10, i'm now 27), and i give them chance after chance to improve, especially the last 4 years, but they don't. The only thing they have improved upon, is their ability to overhype their games, which turns the buying public into zombies. Not this year, at least not for me, they are getting no more breaks.

Since there isn't the slightest chance that EA will be doing that, I guess this is goodbye.

I don't see a big difference

Regardless, if the guys still look like robots when they move, the best player models won't make a difference. Atrocious player interaction and animations can nullify any gains with player models. It's like NBA Live- the models look alright when they're captured at a standstill but look absolutely horrid in motion.

EA won't because they don't see any reason to. Reviews of the next gen version were generally favorable. Sales of the next-gen versions were up last year, while those of the last gen versions plummeted. Given all that, it isn't unreasonable for EA to conclude that they just need to improve what they have, not reinvent the wheel.

I can't tell much of a difference. They look great now, but I thought they were great on '08.

But I am a bit bummed that it looks like they didn't improve the sideline players much. In '08, sidelines are borderline comical. In the neighborhood of Sega Genesis. I don't need interactive sidelines, but when they look as bad as they do in '08, it really decreases the immersion factor.

Sega Genesis? Naaaah. PS1 at the least.

Yes, the game does look slightly and I mean slightly better every year.
Yes, EA still pictures are great.
The problem I see is with their animations (very limited),
Their gameplay (very arcadelike),
And old and bad code (suction blocking, runningback pinball, cheap AI, ect) from the last one or two generations.

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that this is NOT a new engine. Maybe graphics engine, but I just don't see how the same problems EA has had for many many many years could possibly be the exact same problems with this gen.

You can comparre them to other game companies of you want and take up for them if you want, but if it looks like a duck, quack like a duck them it must be a duck.
And this is for Madden too. Shi.... it's the same engine.

I know the XBox 360 version sold less for 08 than it did for 07, so there was a drop there....

Whoops, my bad. I assumed that the trend seen in the first two weeks carried over:

sure the players look nice and all but will they include all the stadiums this year?

# 38 olemiss86 @ 03/24/08 02:35 AM
I like the models. I like the lighting reflection off the helmets. Alot more realistic. And I like this in stadium practice look. And like some said, I hope this means a more dynamic crowd (empty for some games, or fans leaving after blow out.) I like it so far.

I would think they will include more this year, especially the bowl stadiums (Cotton, Independence, Citrus, etc.) And at least finish all the major conference stadiums.
