Crosby's Pinch Hit HR Lifts Bucs to 9th Win in a Row
Ross Ohlendorf picked up his 4th straight win of the season in beathing the Astors 4-3 on Saturday night. It wasn't a typical Ohlendorf start as he walked 4 batters and had to throw over 100 pitches in just 6 innings, but he got the job done.
Pearce absolutley CRUSHES this HR
Steve Pearce hit a monster HR to left field to tie the game at 3-3 in the 4th. It would stay that way until the 7th when pinch hitter Bobby Crosby was called to the plate. The first pitch that Crosby saw was a hanging curve that he blasted over the centerfield wall. "It felt awesome," Crosby said after the game. "To get the call and hit the 1st pitch you see for a game-winningpinch hit HR, I couldn't have scripted it any better."
Crosby is mobbed in the dugout after hitting his PH HR
The Pirates go for the sweep of the Astros (and their 10th victory in a row) tomorrow afternoon at 1:05pm.

Pirates Involved in 3 Team Trade
Walker Called Up
Walker Called Up
The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired 3 players in a 3 team trade that involved the Texas Rangers and Minnesota Twins, it was announced today by GM Joe Fleming.
Fleming clued us in on how the trade came to be... "When Texas lost their starting 2nd baseman Iam Kinsler, they were in the market for a replacement. They contacted me about Aki Iwamura. I knew going into negotiations the exact player that I wanted (Smoak), but it couldn't be done without Minnesota. Once I contacted them and got JJ Hardy involved, it was a done deal.
It is hard to part with the 3 players that we gave up, but it is all part of the business. Smoak was definitely the centerpiece.
We are very excited to see what Justin Smoak can do for us as the starting 1st baseman for the Pirates."

A Look At Bucco Prospects
With the recent struggles at a few key positions on the Big League club, I decided to take a look and see what is down on the farm.
Listed below are the Top 10 Pirates Prospects (in order of potential call-ups)
- Neil Walker 2B/IF Age: 24 B/T: S/L
BA: .289 1 HR 3 RBI 11 Hits
We have been impressed with Neil's progression this year. He has been playing multiple positions, although it looks like he will stick at 2nd base. ETA: imminent
- Pedro Alvarez 3B Age: 23 B/T: L/R
BA: .306 1 HR 4 Doubles 4 RBI 11 Hits
Pedro has really turned it on lastely after a slow start. Not only has he come around offensively, he is playing great defense. ETA: Imminent
- Jose Tabata OF Age: 21 B/T: R/R
BA: .194 1 HR 2 RBI 2 Doubles
Jose has started very slow this season, but we are confident that he will turn the corner. ETA: June/July 2010
- Brad Lincoln SP Age: 25 RHP
W-L: 0-0 ERA: 3.86 5 K's
Brad is ahowing why he was drafted in the first round. Although he doesnt have a win yet, he does have 2 quality starts. ETA: May/June 2010
- Tony Sanchez C Age: 22 B/T: R/R

Tony is already MLB ready for his defense. He is close to being promoted to AAA. If Ryan Doumit would get dealt, Tony couldstep right in. ETA: August/Sept.2010
- Daniel Moskos RP/CP Age: 24 LHP
W-L:0-0 ERA:0.00 4 Svs
Danny will always have the stigma of Matt Weiters over his head, but he is turning into a great closer. He is also on the verge of being promoted to AAA. ETA: Sept 2010
- Gorkys Hernandez OF Age: 22 B/T: R/R
BA: .048 1 Double 2 RBI

Dotel Shuts Door; Pirates Sweep Reds
The Pirates finished the sweep of the Reds in exciting fashion as Closer Octavio Dotel made it interesting in the 9th, but held on for the save. The Pirates found out that Ross Ohlendorf is indeed human. Ohlendorf finally allowed the first runs of his season in his 3rd start of the year, but he was still good enough for the win.
Andrew McCutchen extended his modest hitting streak to 11 games with his 1st triple of the season.
The Pirates have tomorrow off before opening up a 3 game set against the Brewers at PNC Park.

Milledge's Walk-off single in 10th beats Reds
Milledge celebrates with team mates
With 2 on and nobody out in the bottom of the 10th, Lastings Milledge ripped a game winning walk off single to right field. When Garrett Jones crossed the plate, the Pirates mobbed Milledge on 1st base. With this victory, it gives the Pirates a chance to sweep the Reds with a win on Sunday.
Milledge was estatic with his GW RBI, but he said, "I wished that we could have done it earlier to get Zach the win. He pitched lights out." Duke threw 9 scoreless innings, but was given a no-decision. Duke said, "A personal victory is not important to me, as long as we win the game, that is all that I am worried about."
The series closes out tomorrow afternoon at 1:05pm.

Hart, Clement Lead Pirates to Victory
Kevin Hart threw 7 scoreless innings and Jeff Clement hit a 3-run HR - his 1st of the year- to lead the Pirates to a 3-0 win over the Reds.
Hart had this to say about his effort..."I felt great out there tonight. I was hitting my spots, and when Cincy did hit it, they hit it right to my defense. I am a lot more pleased with this effort than my first start of the season."
Clement is finally starting to get his swing going, bringing his batting average from .143 to .250 over the last couple of games. When asked about his recentsurge, Clement stated, "When I saw (Steve) Pearce was recalled, I knew that I had to get my butt in gear. If I didn't start to play up to par, I could be sent to Indy at anytime."
With this win, the Pirates pulled just a game behind Central Division leading St. Louis. The series against the Reds continues tomorrow night at 7pm at PNC Park.

Longball Leads Bucs to Series Win
The Pirates took the rubber game from the Giants in powerful fashion.....by hitting 3 key homeruns. Aki Iwamura, Steve Pearce and Bobby Crosby all hit their first round trippers of the season leading the Pirates to victory.
Pearce connects on his 2 Run-HR
Not to be outshadowed was Player of the Game SP Charlie Morton who tossed a 3hit shutout over 6 IP before being replaced by a pinch hittter. Morton said, "My stuff felt great tonight. The fastball was consistently in the 93-95 MPH range, and my curve and slider had some bite. It was great to get the run support that the offense gave me."
The Pirates will be off tomorrow before opening up a 3 game set against division rival Cincinnati on Friday Night.

Zito K's 10 Buccos in shutout
Barry Zito was simply dominant with a capital "D". The Bucs could not get anything going offensivly and were stuck with the shutout. Pirates Manager John Russell had this to say "What else can you say, today was not out day. Zito pitched lights out and we couldn't hit a thing."
When asked about call-up Steve Pearce's 0 for 3 day at the plate in his season debut Russell replied "What a tough way to start your season. He got the call late last night and since we are on the West Coast, it was a miralce for him to just get here in time for the game. Then, to have to face Zito, he was a little overwhelmed. We have confidece that he will bounce back strong tomorrow. He has a great opportunity to stick with the big club."
The series concludes tomorrow with a 1:05 PST 1st pitch.

Bucco Bats Come Alive
Ross Ohlendorf followed his no-hitter with another great outing. Ohlendorf went 6.1 IP giving up only 4 hits and allowing no runs again.
It was a tight game and a pitcher's duel until the 8th inning when the Bucs blew the game wide open. The highlight of the inning was Andy LaRoche's 1 out 2-run triple. Garret Jones added to the lead in the top of the 9th with a 2-run HR to put the game totally out of reach.
Buc Bits:
During the game LF Ryan Church injured his hamstring and had to be replaced by Delwyn Young. He is to be re-evaluated tomorrow, but it looks as though a trip to the DL is in order. A corresponding move would be made to call an OF up from Indy.
