College Football Championship 2014 Launches Kickstarter Fundraiser Stuck
Posted on May 27, 2013 at 03:03 PM.

Longshot Games, a group of ex-2K Sports and ex-EA Sports developers, recently announced a Kickstarter campaign for their first-ever game, College Football Championship 2014.

If College Football Championship 2014 meets its $1 million funding goal by 1 AM EST on Saturday, June 8, the game will launch simultaneously over Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network in the summer of 2014.

As the NCAA license's current exclusivity deal is set to expire by the 2014 football season, College Football Championship 2014 is promising to ship fully licensed with all 125 FBS schools and the official BCS playoff system.

College Football Championship 2014 will sell for $30 at launch, but the first 1,000 donors can back the game now on Kickstarter for only $20.

Longshot Games' core feature list includes:

Realistic Physics - Every step, hit, block, and catch is controlled by a top-shelf kinematic physics simulation, resulting in the most realistic football gameplay ever.

Coach Career Mode - Work your way up from offensive coordinator at a bottom-tier school to a head coach competing for national championships.

Online Play - Play single games head-to-head or cooperatively online, or dominate all your friends in an online league.

BCS Playoff - Guide your team to victory through the historic first BCS playoff.

Create Formations And Plays - Take to the chalkboard and unleash your inner coordinator by creating your own unique formations and plays.

I hope to God this launches.

I hope this is real. Last kickstarter campaign for a college football game was a scam. This one seems at least more realistic than the other one (real website, video of work, twitter account) I'm rooting for these guys, but am still slightly concerned that this is fake.

Before tons of wishlist bombard this thread, this needs to be put out there.

I'm all for any other football developer other than EA, but something has to be placed in the gamers/community hands before that kind of money is asked for.

Even if it's an Alpha build, something physical has to be released to show that this project is legit and that a final build has a real chance of making it to the market.

Nothing against these former dev's, but in today's realm of scams and such, just having some person/persons/website/forum say this project is real will not do.

Put "something/anything" in the hands of the community to show this game development is real (esp for $20-30).

My big question is, what happens to the money/donations if the $1 million isn't met?
- Does the project build continue or does it halt?

"TANGIBLE" is the word that I want to use.

2nd question is...
Why wait until a week or two before your funding deadline to ask the gaming community to support this project?

Why are we just now hearing of this effort?

Just these two questions alone, raise the "Red Flag" alert.

Hope something can be released to show cause, but $20-30 based off of a simple video for a "possible" release date of 2014, is foolish.

Again, I want this to come to past like many, but some big issues need to be dealt with before monetary support is given.

11 more days to reach 1 million?

Also, they've already secured the NCAA license?

Project looks cool, and looks legit. I would love to see another football game option on the market, even if it's not my preferred pro football.

Also, I really hope OS did it's homework on this before allowing it to be brought forth to it's community asking for financial support.

@Boss
the fact that you mentioned the last effort was a scam does not sit well at all...

But I posted my thoughts on the subject, we will see how authentic this really is real soon.

"Kickstarter's Terms of Use require creators to fulfill all rewards of their project or refund any backer whose reward they do not or cannot fulfill."

http://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/...%20basics#Acco

I'm going to keep my eye on this and see how it goes the next few days, and may even back it if it looks like they are going to make it.

Still, I ask again, 11 more days to reach 1 million? Is there a limit on how long you can ask for pledges or something?

Answer my own question here:

"Funding can last anywhere from one to 60 days"

1 million... And they're sitting at just over $11,000. They must be hoping for a publisher to come along and pick up the project.

"Funding can last anywhere from one to 60 days, however a longer duration is not necessarily better. Statistically, projects lasting 30 days or less have our highest success rates. A Kickstarter project takes a lot of work to run, and shorter projects set a tone of confidence and help motivate your backers to join the party. Longer durations incite less urgency, encourage procrastination, and tend to fizzle out."

Again, it would be a minor miracle if they reach their goal, and something tells me they are trying to grab the attention of a publisher instead.

In any case, more video footage of the actual project would help. If you can't give us 11 on 11, at least show some offense/defense interaction, a throw and a catch, something.

I think I know what they're called "Longshot" Games. It's clearly going to be a longshot to get this product going and have physical copies available to sell. Right now they're selling hope more so than the product. I think it might be too early to market this because there are a lot of unanswered questions. All we know are a bunch of things that they want to have in the game, there's not a lot about what we'll be getting, although they're still in the early development stage.

Kickstarter doesn't charge you a cent unless the project goal is met. So in theory, you could donate $20, and no money will leave your pocket unless the project hit its $1 million goal.

Today is the first time I have heard of the project. So I posted this article as soon as I heard about it.

I'd imagine their initial launch last Friday probably got buried by the Xbox One hype train.

Please Please Please launch a college hoops game!!!

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but I believe it takes way more than 1 million dollars to make a good football game WITH licensing. Even if these guys are legit they'll burn through that cash long before having anything close to a release quality football game.

IF they do release a game it won't be anywhere near the quality you guys are expecting, not even to Backbreaker quality.

# 13 dal_hawk @ May 28
Well they've made an accomplishment. They've met 1% of their goal !!!

As I watch the video and look at the "game play" footage it got me wondering what if EA swoops in and hires the ppl that created all that WR stuff and get them to do DB stuff to make a really good WR/DB interaction add that on top of the new line play and RB skills and what not + the heat seeker deal and there you have it a game that we can all love

Every time I see a smaller company take a shot at a alternate football game I am reminded of basic economics...if they want a mass market of consumers it has to appeal to the mass market...and I don't believe the game I want is the game the mass market wants.
