Game 20 @ NYY

This one was a pitcher's duel throughout. However, the Tigers came out on the wrong side. They outhit the Yankees 8-5, but couldn't break through against Andy Pettitte.

Curtis Granderson's 2 run home run was enough to win it for the Yankees.

Game 19 vs. SEA

No one can stop the Tigers. They lead in many categories across the MLB. Ian Kinsler hit his league-leading 12th HR, and Doug Fister earned win number 7 on the year.

The Tigers swept the Mariners with a 10-1 victory.

Game 18 vs. SEA

Josh Beckett has finally returned from injury. He made his season debut, after going down late in Spring Training with a "severed finger".

His start was cut short by fatigue, and his efforts were mitigated when Randy Choate gave up a game-tying 2 run home run to former Tiger, Casper Wells.

The Tigers responded with 2 in the 7th, and 4 in the 8th. An Ian Kinsler triple and Andre Ethier double were highlights from those two innings.

Daniel Schlereth inexplicably notched a save...

Game 17 vs. SEA

Doug Fister cruised through the first 6 innings. He gave up back-to-back triples in the 7th, before exiting. He still left with a lead and earned his 6th victory. Jose Valverde notched a save.

A new Tigers lineup proved successful, as they mashed out 14 hits. The changes that were made will stay. Most notably, Austin Jackson was removed from the leadoff spot and demoted to 7th in the order.

Big Bats Power Tigers' Victory

Game 16 vs. TEX

Everything... and I mean EVERYTHING is going right for the Tigers. Josh Beckett finished his rehab stint, so he is returning to the MLB. But today, Justin Verlander took the mound and kept the Tigers in it. He gave up 1 run in 8 innings, and gave way to a bullpen that won the game.

Neftali Feliz was solid early, but deteriorated, giving up both the tying and winning runs in consecutive innings. Michael Morse tied it with a home run in the 8th. Then, Miguel Cabrera walked off for a second time in this series! His home run in the bottom of the ninth capped the comeback.

The Tigers swept the Rangers in this 4 game series!

Game 15 vs. TEX

Nate Robertson pressed his luck against the Rangers in this one. In his last start, he gave up 4 ER through 6 IP, so he hoped again that the offense would back him up.

The offense did come on, albeit late. Robertson had a no decision and Al Alburquerque got the win out the bullpen. He was pitching when the Tigers scored 2 in the 7th. Jose Valverde closed it out in short order.

Game 14 vs. TEX

Daniel Schlereth flirted with baseball history this evening. He exceeded all expectations, and he nearly defied all odds. He took a perfect game into the 8th inning. He retired the first 22 batters, before Adrian Beltre's single found its way between 1st and 2nd base.

The reliever-gone-starter had both his longest and most successful outing on the same night. Kudos to him. Even with the sensational pitching, the Tigers still provided more than enough offense, highlighted by two Prince Fielder home runs.

Victor Martinez (day-to-day) left the game after being hit by a pitch in his first at bat. There was no retaliation, as it would have threatened the perfect game bid.

2012 Detroit Tigers Game 13

Game 13 vs. TEX

Detroit opened a HUGE 4 game set against the Texas Rangers. I am taking this series very seriously, because I feel like this series has potential post-season implications. I would hate to lose a series to the Rangers.

Additionally former teammates are pitted against each other. Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz, Delmon Young and David Murphy had spent time with the Tigers, but only Kinsler remains. Ryan Raburn has been a staple in the Rangers offense, batting .366 on the season. His offense with the Tigers was non-existent.

Yu Darvish dazzled the Tigers in his first appearance against the team. He was lucky to get a lot of groundball outs quickly. However, he faltered late.

The offense came on for both sides to make it dramatic, and the Tigers tied it in the bottom of the 9th! Joe Nathan blew the save.

Miguel Cabrera walked off with a single to complete the comeback!

Game 12 @ KC

Doug Fister is a workhorse. He made his 4th start this season. It's a quick turnaround for him, as he pitched the series opener! Now he's back... to close the series. He went 6 and 1/3 innings this time out for the win.

Again, Royals pitching didn't cut it. Johnathan Sanchez failed to make it out of the 2nd inning.

Ian Kinsler homered again. He was one of many stars in this one for the Tigers.

Game 11 @ KC

Justin Verlander pitched on semi-short rest, in order to avoid more chaos in the starting rotation. However, the strategy backfired somewhat, as the pesky Royals taxed Verlander with 3 runs.

Verlander eventually mustered a win, as the Tigers rode the power bats to victory. A run in the bottom of the ninth was the closest the Royals got to threatening the victory. Valverde managed to get the save, despite the chaos.

Nate Robertson's scheduled start was skipped in place of Doug Fister, who leapfrogged Justin Verlander. Robertson's skipped start will likely mean that he will not make another appearance, as Josh Beckett is set to return from his finger injury that put him on the DL.

The Royals didn't even have a fighting chance; their offense was outmatched, and the pitching couldn't compensate for the difference.

JJ Hardy tripled twice in his debut! Geovany Soto, Ian Kinsler, and Miguel Cabrera all went yard in the rout.

Detroit Tigers Acquire JJ Hardy

Jhonny Peralta had been slumping, and the cost of acquiring JJ was rather cheap. In addition to giving up Peralta, we gave up an outfield prospect from AA. To fill his spot, we signed Craig Counsell to a minor league deal.

JJ Hardy is a better defender and has more power than Peralta.

Game 9 @ CWS

All around, it was a job well done for the Tigers. Replacement started Daniel Schlereth gave up only 1 run (a solo shot for Alexei Ramirez) over 5 innings, which was expected. The bullpen pieced it together the rest of the way, allowing no runs the rest of the way.

Mark Melancon earned a win, and Justin Verlander (not a typo) earned a hold with 1/3 innings of relief work. Scott Downs, followed by Matt Guerrier closed it out.

Ian Kinsler is on fire! He was a double short of the cycle, giving him 5 HR and 16 RBI now!

Game 8 vs. CWS

Jordan Zimmermann got the start in this one. He hoped for offensive support, since he lost his last start, 2-0.

In this start, he didn't get much more support. Although he got the victory, the final margin of victory was 2.

John Danks was able to pitch to contact and get most of the Tigers out.

Jose Valverde converted his first save of the season.
