Uh oh, NBA Live 10 is not that bad, now what?
Posted on October 21, 2010 at 12:17 PM.
What a strange world I liive in. I spent the $60 for NBA 2k11 and yet last night I found myself playing the NBA Live 10 demo. We aren't talking about the game, we are talking about the Demo..and I LIKED IT!

I have been on the 2k bandwagon for years and 2k11 is a candidate for GOY so I am not, and will not disperage it for fear of being electronically stoned to death. However, one could argue that NBA Live 10 is more fun to play.

Maybe that's because its a little easier to pull off moves but the fact is that when you do string moves together and take it to the rack, it is very satisfying.

You know what else I noticed about Live 10? All the movement that you see in Czar's 2k11 videos (and remember the lack of movement from 2k10), all that movement and bumping and screening is in Live 10. Does it look as smooth, no maybe not but the game was released a full year earlier. I have a PS3 so I can come out and say that the arenas look better in Live 10 and the commentary, while not better than 2k11, is at least very good in Live 10.

In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I owned this game last year and I seem to remember that the main reason I gave it up was because I felt like there were too many drives to the basket and not enough jump shooting. If you know anything about this game can that be confirmed?

The point of this blog is two fold. First to EA, what were you guys thinking? Give us the shot stick portion of the Elite controls, the new broadcast team and SOME upgrades to Franchise mode and you have yourself a $60 game. I am just saying.

Second, I am thinking about picking this game up as a cheaper alternative and then selling my 2k11 so I can get some cash for another game.

Has anyone else considered that?

Feel free to comment on everything and anything I wrote or any thoughts you have on the two games.

I am playing 2k11 and learning the sticks. It is an amazing bball game.

I've gone down the "if you cant beat 'em join 'em' route.

But i still want EA to produce a viable alternative.

I just want to let EA know what I want in a basketball game. 2K have got their massive fan base and are very unlikely to change their control system. And nor should they, it is very popular.

The ball is in EA's court. (Or should i say 'the puck is in EA's rink'.)

Nothing is in 2k11's league. It'll be talked about in the same circles as ESPN NFL 2K5.

Fortunately for 2k11, Mike Wang got to test some of his innovations in Live 10. You should check it out. It's kind of a big deal. I've heard more than a few comments about 2k11 feeling like all the good bits of 2K10 and Live 10 put together.

Anyway, I'll stop there. Don't want it becoming a versus thread.

@jestep123: NBA Live 10 was a better game than NBA 2K10 on the court. And you are right NBA Live 10 is just FUN! I wish that it had a better presentation and deeper gameplay modes because that is mostly what was missing.

Yep, fun.

It was actually my first release date purchase of a bball game since 2K6.

Nah, I'm not buying this. You guys are trying so hard, lol. rofl. Just stop it. The comments you all make, are contradicting, and all over the place, it proves that you guys as a community fan base, don't even know what it is you wanted out of EA, for some strange reason, you guys just wish that EA had the more popular game. You guys all sound like you wannna give a technical reason, but reading between the lines, you guys are fans, and just wish the brand you like is the more popular brand. 2K11 is so easy to control, its hard to master. Live10 still had glitches and bad basketball rules, so how anyone wanna play that over 2K11 is not being honest with himself. Some of you just sound like blind followers and don't know what to do or who to blame, you just want EA to be no.1
No real bballer, or video game baller, would be playing LIVE10 right now. Just stop. This is comical. Maybe I should go play NFL 2k5. Stop

Funny but true

@smokez4dayz: I am not one of the ones saying that NBA Live 10 is BETTER than NBA 2K11....its not even close, I was just saying that it is a pretty good game and a fun one to play. Me personally, I am NBA 2K11 all the way.

SN: NFL 2K5 is VERY playable til this day and still light years ahead of Madden.

totally disagree. IMO, LIve10 was fun in spurts, but never did replace 2k10. 2k11 is on another planet.

folks that are complaining about 2k11 are the ones that complain about the difficulty of pulling off a string of moves and drive every time.

put the settings on casual and a lower level you wont have this problem. in addition change the shot stick from timing to a different mode.

2k11 can be customized in so many ways. The AI, is top notch.

play books are actually deep, setting plays for each player to exploit that players strength. you can also do this for bench players.
the post game awesome!!! shot variations awesome. the countless number of animations.
when they said the AI is truely life like in a review, they werent kidding.
I swear Ive played games where I felt as if my game was hacked and I was playing against another human.

not bashing LIVE10.
But Man, 2k11 is in a league all by itself.
2k11 is the far superior game for true sim heads.
fix the few bugs this game has, whchso far hasnt affected any of my games and 2k11 will be a 10.

Come on man... Live 10 overr NBA 2K11? I can't even fool up with that one. I'm a man now. EA's arcade antics within a simulation basketball game is too much for me. 2K all DAY!!!

I think some of you missed the mark of this blog entirely. 2k11 is the game that requires more skill and more time. You 2k heads are all the same, you take the Live folks and you always say the same thing: "You need to practice" "Live is arcade game". "You need to work on your stick skills". I mean it is always the same thing. Not only that, when you go to persecute the crowd that likes Live you do it blindly. I mean in the blog, I said I own and like 2k. I also said that LIve was arguably the more fun (notice I didnt say better looking or necessarily more fundementaly sound) game of basketball. That's because it is the truth.

Live is not better than 2k11 and it doesnt have to be. However, going back and looking at it now, it looks like Live 10 and 2k10 were not as far apart as everyone thinks.

2k is MORE of a sim but Live is also simulation basketball. I am just saying that it is a decent and cheap alternative as far as NBA games now that it has been given a full roster update.

I mean this isnt really about 2k10 or 11 being a better game. That is a no brainer. What it is about is how shocked I am that, even with a roster update Live 10 would even be a viable option...but it is. Especially for those who dont necessarly have $60 + tax to put down right now, or like I said if you want to sell 2k and get another game.

There are alot of good games out right now.

@jestep123 - agreed. A game can be better in every category, but in the end it only matters which game you end up playing more. I don't have Live 10, but I'm likely to try it out based on some comments on here.

Sports games have gotten so complex for us gamers that prefer a lighter less time intensive experience. I have a life that doesn't revolve around gaming, so I don't have the time to invest in 2k11. It's a great game to be sure, but it's far beyond the time I'm willing to invest in a game. I'm glad I sold it and got EA MMA, it just wasn't the game for me.

I'm really not sure how this became a war between Live 10 and 2k11, the OP simply stated he has more fun with Live 10, and acknowledged the 2k11 was easily the better game. I guess people just don't know how to read or interpret an OPINION. <----@smokez4dayz

@russwg1970

thats my confusion with the blog. how can you say you know that 2k11 is the better game but then say live 10 is more fun? IMO thats just too much contradiction.

In the end, im guessing he's saying theres still fun to be had in Live 10. which is good with me. but eh!

# 28 tril @ Oct 22
@russwg1970.
when it comes to 2k and Live posts, its always war in these parts.

I hear you on the time that one has to invest in 2k11, because of responsibilities.
That's my only real gripe so far- I don't have enough time to play 2k11, but unlike you Id never trade it in. As a matter of fact Ive never traded in a 2k sports title.

2K All Day
or should I say
it's 2k when I get a chance to Play

# 29 BlackRome @ Oct 22
tril: Actually the people that are complaining are the people who play online ranked games. Where you can't customize the game. Offline 2k11 is the best basketball game I have ever played. Online it's one of the worst games 2k has released in the series. It's slow and stiff.

It plays like an old version of Live where you were on ice skates.
Sorry but 2k11 sucks online.

# 30 russwg1970 @ Oct 22
I get the confusion.... but it's not about comparing games it's about which game is more playable where personal preferences are concerned. Anyone play Conflict Desert Storm back in the day? That game sucked, and had bad reviews, but at the same time, it was just fun to pick up and play - especially multilayer. My point was that the OP never made ANY comparisons between 2k11 and Live 10. Then he gets called a EA fanboy from someone referring to themselves as a "video game baller"... LOL!
