The Seattle Seahawks return home for the much anticipated Super Bowl rematch with the Denver Broncos. This game has lost a little bit of it's luster with Seattle's star QB Russell Wilson going down to injury last week in San Diego, but it will make no difference to the Broncos, who are longing to put "43-8" behind them, and face the demons of last years super bowl debacle at the hands of these Seahawks.

Players to Watch
Offense:

Peyton Manning - QB: I dont know if any one player's legacy has taken a bigger hit, than Peyton Manning's did in Super Bowl 48. Make no mistake about it though, he is still the best QB in the game, and one of the greatest of all time. He will be out for revenge in this one.
Defense:

Aqib Talib - CB: Talib was Denver's big offseason signing along with DeMarcus Ware. The Broncos realized they needed a more physical presence after the Super Bowl loss and Talib is at the forefront of that movement.
Prediction: Obviously the dynamic of this game has changed greatly over the past week with the Wilson injury. Seattle should still be able to run the ball effectively and keep the game close. If they can dominate time of possession and the defense can make a play they have a shot in this one, but with Wilson sidelined, it's pretty hard to make a case for Tarvaris Jackson out dueling Peyton Manning. Wilson MRI reveals no strcutural damage, will still miss 4-6 weeks.

The results were about as good as the Seahawks could have expected as the MRI on Russell Wilson's dislocated elbow showed no damage to the tendon's, however there is still major bruising and swelling that will need to go down before Wilson can start throwing a football again, and doctors are estimating that recovery time to be about 4-6 weeks.

Seattle survives in San Diego

Percy Harvin hauls in TD pass from Russell Wilson
San Diego - The Seattle Seahawks were in a war on Sunday in San Diego, and while they came out victorious in this battle. There were some wounds suffered that could greatly impact their chances at a repeat superbowl season. Quarterback Russell Wilson went down in the 3rd quarter with what can only be described as an ugly dislocated elbow injury, an MRI will be postponed until tomorrow due to swelling, but whatever the results of that MRI are, for the first time in his career Wilson will have to miss some starts for Seattle. That means veteran backup Tarvaris Jackson will step up and start for Seattle in the immediate future, while Seattle no doubt will be brining up B.J. Daniels from the practice squad to back him up. Luckily the Seahawks got another impressive game from Marshawn Lynch, and now the running attack will need to relied on extensively until Wilson can make it back onto the field. Seattle also lost pass rusher Michael Bennett in this game for at least a few weeks. The early bye week will now come in handy as it will give these players an extra week where they dont have to miss a game to recuperate. In the mean time though Seattle must head home to take on a Denver Broncos team that wont care who is suiting up for the Hawks, they will be out for revenge in this one. It will be a tough task for the Hawks to stay undefeated past Sunday.

Players to Watch
Offense:

Philip Rivers - QB: Rivers had a resurgence in 2013 lifting the Chargers to the playoffs on the back of one of his more impressive seasons. Like Rodgers last week he will have no problems going right after the LOB in this one.
Defense:

Eric Weddle - FS: Weddle is one of the best in the game at safety. He will be coming up a lot to stop the Beast mode train from running over the Chargers in this one.
Prediction: The Chargers are an exciting young team with a good quarterback, and an opportunistic defense. They will make this one exciting for the home town fans, but in the end They don't yet have the horses to overcome the reigning champs. Seahawks 24, Chargers 21

Seahawks run over Packers to start defense of crown
Seattle - The Seattle Seahawks opened their title defense in impressive fashion on Thursday night with a 34-24 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Marshawn Lynch was dominant on the ground racking up 163 yards, while the defense was able to sack Green Bay quarterbacks seven times, twice sending Aaron Rodgers to the sideline in pain to regroup. While Rodgers statistically ended up having a decent day, it was in vain as the Packers had to abandon the run early after falling behind 20-0 in the first half. This allowed the Seahawks to keep pounding Lynch and working the clock. The Seahawks will now have an extra few days off to prepare for their trip to San Diego where they will face Phillip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers next Sunday.

The Seattle Seahawks welcome the entire NFL to kickoff 2014 in the Emerald City. There will be many great pregame festivities downtown, including a concert by local rock legends Soundgarden, and Pharrell Williams, but those are just appetizers for the main event that will be taking place in CenturyLink Field Thursday night. The defending champion Seahawks will welcome in the Green Bay Packers, a team many feel will challenge them for their throne this season, as well as a team that no doubt still has a bad taste in it's mouth from the infamous "fail mary" of two years ago. Will Aaron Rodgers be able to figure out the Legion of Boom? Or will another team fall victim to the 12th Man in primetime in Seattle?

Players to Watch
Offense:

Aaron Rodgers - QB: If there's a QB in the league with the swag to go right after the LOB it's this man. Aaron Rodgers has never lacked for confidence and flair, and will have no problems going right after the Seahawks strongest link.
Defense:

Clay Matthews - OLB: This is a potential matchup nightmare for the Hawks on Thursday, Matthews is an elite rusher who can switch sides. Expect him to do that a lot in this one to get himself matched up with Hawks rookie Justin Britt.
Prediction: Make no mistake about it, the Packers are more than a worthy challenge for the Hawks to kickoff their title defense. I wouldn't expect a blowout like night games in the past, but in the end, the 12th man's energy once the Super Bowl banner drops will be too much for Green Bay to overcome in this one. Oakland - The Seattle Seahawks put a bow on their preseason on Thursday night with a 17-14 defeat to the Oakland Raiders. That doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things as the last preseason game is always used to get some rookies as long a look on film as the coaches can get, and one last chance for some of the position battles to be won. Undrafted rookie linebacker Brock Coyle definitely cemented his spot on the final 53 man roster as he racked up an impressive team high 11 solo tackles. He will fill the void left by the season ending injury to Heath Farwell, but perhaps the biggest noise made on this night was by long shot QB B.J. Daniels. Daniels has been on the outside looking in all of camp while Terrelle Pryor and Tarvaris Jackson have been battling for the back up job all preseason, it has come at the expense of reps for the 2nd year QB from South Florida, but he got his chance Thursday and took advantage. Daniels came in and immediately drove the Hawks down for their first touchdown of the game, then calmly converted the 2 point conversion to make it a one score game. Then after a punt pinned Seattle down on their own 1 yard line. B.J. led a drive all the way to the Raider two yard line. Being as it was preseason the Hawks elected to go for the win rather than kick a game tying FG, but none the less the two minute drill was executed perfectly, and Daniels although a long shot gave the coaches definite reason to think twice about the signal caller. All in all like every other year, tough choices will be made in the next 48 hours, and dreams will be shattered as the Seahawks must cut their roster down to 53 men by Saturday.

Seahawks defense keeps Bears out of end zone to stay perfect in preseason
Seattle - The Seahawks defense impressed on Friday night, as they kept Chicago's high powered offense out of the end zone, and led the way to a 20-12 win. The Seahawks one bright spot on offense was Marshawn Lynch who got an extended look after missing the start of training camp with a hold out. Lynch cracked 100 yards on the night constantly gouging the Bears defense. The Seahawks now look to wrap up the preseason perfectly on Thursday night when they take on the Oakland Raiders at O.Co Coliseum.

San Francisco loses WR Crabtree for season
The San Francisco 49ers received some horrific news after their preseason tilt against the Denver Broncos. WR Michael Crabtree suffered a complete tear of his groin muscle, and will have to miss the entire 2014 regular season. This is a crushing blow for the Niners who are hoping to dethrone bitter rivals the Seattle Seahawks for NFL supremacy this season. Veterans Anquan Boldin, and Stevie Johnson will now have to do more, and the Niners will need players in reserve roles to step up for them if they hope to keep pace this year.

NFL Upholds Josh Gordon suspension
As many expected, the NFL has upheld the year long suspension of Josh Gordon for the entire 2014 regular season. The Browns were bracing for this reality, but Gordon was appealing hoping to get the ban reduced or even dropped. In the end the Browns will now rely on veteran Miles Austin, and free agent pickup Andrew Hawkins to try and carry them thru the season.

Seattle starters shine in preseason win
The Seattle Seahawks first stringers showed on Friday night why the defending champs will still be the team to beat in the NFL this season. Russell Wilson was sharp connecting on a touchdown pass and running for a score as well, beast mode got going with some big time runs, and the defense put up a score as well as the starters stretched the lead out to 28-7 by midway thru the 2nd quarter before giving way to the backups and rookies. Some other standouts in this game were DT Tony McDaniel who had 2 sacks, and forced the fumble that led to Seattle's defensive touchdown, and rookie linebacker Brock Coyle, who is stepping into the spot vacated by Heath Farwell's season ending groin injury. Coyle led the team with 6 tackles on Friday night. The Seahawks now get a regular 7 day work week to prepare for their next game as the Chicago Bears will be visiting CenturyLink Field next Friday night.

Jets lose major stars in preseason opener
The New York Jets may have won their preseason tilt against the Colts, but it came at a costly price as they lost pro bowlers Sheldon Richardson, and Chris Johnson for the year to injury. Hopefully backups can step up for the Jets in their stead as they try to make a push for the post season, and perhaps to save coach Rex Ryan's job.

QUEST FOR A DYNASTY
The Seattle Seahawks enter 2014 on one mission, to become the first back to back champions since the '03-'04 Patriots, and look to establish this decades NFL dynasty. They bring back almost all the pieces from their championship team last year, and being the youngest team in the league, those pieces only figure to get better. Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, and Kam Chancellor are already the best in the game at their positions. How much better can Russell Wilson get? Can he take his place among the Brady, Manning, Brees, Rodgers hierarchy? These are questions that he will have to answer this year, as those 4 QB's and their respective teams will all be looking to knock the Seahawks off the top. Oh and don't forget about the team to the south lurking down in the bay. The 49ers of San Francisco still have a sour taste in their mouths of how last season ended, and will also be on a season long quest to take back what they feel is their's. It should be another outstanding year of football in the Emerald City.

The schedule makers sure have a sense of humor don't they? Being as it's the first preseason game, and the two teams play each other in week 3, it's hard to imagine either team showing too much of their hands in this one, but one can't help but think the Broncos will want to gain a little measure of confidence, and feel like they can at least occupy the same field as the Seahawks, as for the rest of the schedule, a clash with the Chicago Bears is sandwiched in between two games against former AFC West foes in the Chargers, and Raiders.

As with most teams who win the Superbowl, the main starters are pretty much all back from last year. Eric Winston has been brought in to fill the void left by Breno Giaciomini, while Derrick Coleman steps in for the retired Mike Robinson at Fullback. Jermaine Kearse, and Doug Baldwin should fill the spot left by Golden Tate, while rookies Paul Richardson, and Kevin Norwood fight to fill out the depth chart. On defense the Seahawks return all eleven starters from last season, and will have rookies and veterans duking it out to take their own places in the legion of boom.
