What does this do for the CPU? Simply, it gives them more then same 20 plays to call each game. The game is programmed to call things best on what you select on defense/offense, so if you keep calling same defense/offense and they only have 20 plays to choose from, you get a repeat of the same things. With this setup they have up to 150 plays to choose from depending on the down and distance. Makes the CPU completely unpredictable with their playcalling and you can play the same team three straight times and get a different experience each game. I've yet to find someone actually try these and tell me they didn't notice a completely different game. IMO, this make a BIGGER impact then traits/sliders because it changes the way the CPU thinks in the most important part of football, the play calling!

Oh BTW, they're great for the user as well!

THE METHOD TO THE MADNESS

*Condensed each playbook to 17 formation and right under 250 plays
*Removed shot plays
*Removed HB screen unless in 3x1 alignment
*Removed four verticals
*Removed Playaction from 3/4 long and medium
*Removed screen plays from 4th down long/medium
*Added end around, jet sweeps and trick plays to every playbook
*20 Different plays in the 2 minute offense
*In Goal line gave 1 run, 1 play action and 1 pass play each formation

.5 star every down and distance
RUNNING
1.5 star 1st down
1.5 star 2nd/long
1.5 star 2nd/medium
3 star on 2nd/short
.5 star on 3rd/long

DEFENSE
*Left only one cover 0 blitz per formation
*Each playbook has 4 Base formation, 4 nickel formations and 1 dime formation
*Added 8 Nickel 8 in the box plays to the Normal defense

2 star zone plays
1 star zone blitez
.5 star blitz plays

Each playbook type was created to match the schemes. In order to know what playbook to assign the CPU, just go to the scheme section in CFM and see what the coach has.

OFFENSE

CPUWCZR = West Coast Zone Run (Redskins)
CPUWCPR = West Coast Power Run (Jaguars)
CPUVTZR = Vertical Zone Run (49ers)
CPUVTPR = Vertical Power Run (Panthers)
CPUMPZR = Multiple Zone Run (Lions)
CPUMPRR - Multiple Power Run (Patriots)

CPUMANNING = Peyton Manning Offense (One HB uses, same concepts)
CPUMCDANLS = Josh McDaniels (Has all the Pats special formations)
CPUMCVAY = Sean McVay (One personnel and compressed formations)
CPUPAYTON = Sean Payton (Has all the Saints special plays)
CPUPEDERSN = Doug Perderson (Eagles, 1HB only, zone run)
CPUREID = Andy Reid/Matt Nagy (Misdirection offense)

CPUAIRRAID = Shotgun Only (College Airraid concepts, spread formations)
CPUOLDSCHOL = Smashmouth football (Classic 2 RB offense that's built on running)
CPUSPREAD = Spread (College style Option Heavy, athletic QB)

How to use in Offline CFM when controlling one team

1. Must have/Create a 2nd PSN profile and own a 2nd controller before doing anything else
2. Download the playbooks under the 2nd profile account only
3. Make sure franchise setting for INSTANT STARTER is OFF
4. Create new character on the team you're about to play again

IF YOU WANT TO USE FORMATION SUBS DO THIS FIRST, IF NOT SKIP TO STEP 5
A) Create the opposing HC FIRST
B) Set Formation Subs
C) "Retire" HC

5. Select an active player (preferably 3rd string QB because he never plays)
6. Before game starts take 2nd controller to opposing team and pick custom book DON'T MOVE BACK TO MIDDLE
7. Play game
8. Retire player after the, he will NOT actually retire
9. Repeat next week[/b]

Is this only for PS4?
Yes

Can we still do formation subs?
Yes, to an extent. Auto subs settings will stick if you change them before you retire the coach.

Can we still use supersim?
Yes, as long as the team you're controlling is the one to kickoff to start the game you can press the R3 button and select supersim.

Can we use this with only one controller?
No, must have two

Can we use this with one profile?
No, must create a 2nd one

Can we use this in online CFM?
No, offline only

Can we use this as an Owner?
No, only 3rd String method works

Can we use this as a coach?
No, only 3rd String method works

I personally call my own plays BUT I believe since all the plays are rated it should work the same... I just don't know how much diversity you'll get relying on Madden's suggestion system... worth a shot

I did the same thing for Xbox, couldn't stand all verts or cover 0 constantly being called by the CPU... it has made the game much more challenging and more unpredictable.

I could if you like, I have the O playbook done.... still tinkering with the D. The CPU O has a good blend of sets and plays, took out most all verts and added run plays for 3rd and medium / long so watch out for the draws and screens.

This is an area I hope they fix next year, or (I know it won't happen) patch this year. Make it so that all we have to do is quite simply assign any playbook to any team in any game mode and they use said book with all suggestions and schemes. No jumping hoops with controllers and profiles.



For all the issues Madden has, something as simple as realistic playbooks is an easy fix and the fact that it hasn't been looked at is disgraceful. There is no universe where on 3rd and 13 play action should be called 50% of the time. Nor should a 4 verts play be in the cpu's offensive scheme for goal line plays. Cpu playcalling is laughable and completely ruins gameplay and could be fixed simply by removing a handful of plays in a handful of situations. No need to have the cpu call a HB screen on 4th and 12 with 3 minutes left.
