Some Thoughts:
Five full simulated seasons isn't the largest sample size, but it's big enough to confirm my hunch that it's safe to go back to the default injury setting of 50 now that the patch is out.
I had been running my current franchise with the slider at 10 and saw only a handful of very minor injuries. At 25, we can see a few more injuries and slightly longer timeframes, but still not the amount of injuries you'd expect to see over a full season.
I would say that out of five seasons, injuries were only a huge factor in one: season three. Losing Kendrick, Wells, Hunter, and Haren two separate times for mor than a month killed the team. Season one saw Morales and Santana out for a month and change, but I consider that more middle of the road luck-wise. Seasons two, four, and five saw nothing but minor nagging injuries, so they would have been healthy years for the team as a whole.
A couple of other things:
1) Most of these injuries are the sort that you can have a guy play through. In season one, Kindrick was hurt for 14 days between the ankle and the PCL, but I might very well play him through most of the ankle injury if I really need him in the lineup.
2) With injuries bumped back up, you can really tell from a GM/coaching perspective what it means to commit yourself to a player with a history of injury. It's pretty clear who the regulars in the training room are on this Angels roster--having the injuries high enough to bring that out adds lots of depth to the experience in my opinion.
These numbers look to be a far cry from the out-of-the-box numbers that alarmed so many folks. I'd really welcome more discussion on the right setting for this slider, whether that's in the form of more simulated stats, speculations on the realism of these numbers, or whatever.
