Re: Getback: The Redskins Dynasty

Introduction/2010 Season Summary

Thanks to everyone who wishes to comment or just follow this franchise. I've always wanted to do one of these & now just seems like the right time. I've been a life long Redskins fan & I've seen this team go from the pearly gates to the depths of hell. Taking this team & making it the powerhouse it needs to be is a great feeling I wanna have.

I decided to sim the 2010 season so I can go ahead & blow this team up & put the peaces together that I see fit. Just not cool with playing with dudes like McNabb & Portis or even Santana. This team needs a fresh start & even though I'm keeping a few peaces there will be a new direction for this team that includes not so many big free agency splashes & a huge importance of drafting good talent (no more 500k salary caps at the start of each season).

As far as 2010 goes, some things were different but alot stayed the same both with the 'Skins & the rest of the league. McNabb had a subpar season which included throwing 14 TDs against 17 INTs. None of our rushers even sniffed at the 800 yard mark. The reciving core was banged up all year. What kept them competitive was the defense. Desipite no Pro Bowlers on the D (by the way, RG Mike Williams was the 'Skins ONLY Pro Bowler), they finished in the top five in total defense & Haynesworth actually had a good season. They had a shot to win the division the final game against the Giants. Giants blew them out & finished 8-8 to win the east (yeah, the NFC East looked more like the west this year).

As for the rest of the league, yeah if you looked at the season recap Brett Favre had his last moment in the spotlight he was searching for. No way he comes back now, right? The suprise team this year just like in real life was the Chiefs, who crept into the playoffs as a Wild Card. Cowboys imploded just like real life. Payton Manning once again is MVP as well as Offensive Player of the Year after throwing for 49 TDs (three MVPs in a row is just scary). I honestly believe MVP should of went to Adrian Petterson since he basically carried Favre & the Vikes on his back to the Super Bowl (league leading rusher in every category).

I'll be more detail with the around the league stuff as the franchise progresses but for now I'm gonna dive right into the offseason. Hope you all enjoy the ride!

Re: Getback: The Redskins Dynasty

Axe Wednesday: 'Skins release 16 players including McNabb, Moss, & Portis.

LANDOVER, MD-- The Washington Redskins have lowered the boom on serveral vets today.

With the offseason in full swing, the 'Skins have led the way with their roster changes. A grand total 16 players were released today including the man they traded for last offseason, Donavon McNabb. Other notables include former mainstays Clinton Portis, Santana Moss, Mike Sellers, & Carlos Rogers.

"We have to reset this thing if we have any chance of being able to better the future of the team." says GM Bruce Allen. This approch is a change from the Redskins more recent history of keeping vets on the roster for hopes of them still being viable. "We can't look at this as a win now kinda thing anymore. I want something the Redskins have never had in its long history. Longevity."

No word on if there will be more releases to come in the coming days.

Full List of Released Players:
QB Donavon McNabb
QB Rex Grossman
HB Clinton Portis
HB Willie Parker
FB Mike Sellers
WR Santana Moss
WR Bobby Wade
TE Steve Ryan
C Casey Rabach
RG Will Montgomery
DT Henry Green
LOLB Chris Wilson
MLB H.B Blades
CB Carlos Rogers
CB Phillip Buchanon
FS Reed Doughty

2011 Draft Selections

Alright, I wanted to give my free agent class this same type of treatment but I was in sort of a rush so here is my detailed look at the 'Skins 2011 draft class. I only had five picks so I had to go for who I believed could have the most potential for the future & who could help contribute this season. I had the 13th overall pick & since this class closely resembles what could be happening this year for real, two QBs we all know were the cream of the crop. This was a real defense heavy first round. So muth that the one QB I hoped for fell on my lap. That man is....

Rd1, Pick 13/Cam Newton QB Auburn: He has the size, the physical skill to overpower you on the run. He has an arm & on play action he's as deadly as they come. Out of all the running QB hybrids I see him as the one with the potential to go far. Put a offense around him & I know he can do wonders. Can't believe he just fell at my lap. Wanna know whats even more crazy? Andrew Luck went Number 4... To the EAGLES.

Rd2, Pick 45/Mike Pouncy C Florida: This is the man that is going to hold down my offensive line for the next decade. He was a beast in Gainesville that helped them to National Championships. His brother is starting Center for the AFC Champs the Steelers. This o-line just got a HUGE upgrade.

Rd3, Pick 77/Ryan Broyles WR Oklahoma: Fell down quite a bit which shocked me. He has the speed to be a real threat with the YAC. Still needs work on his hands but I think he can start in the next 2 or 3 seasons. For now he's destined for kick return duty.

Rd4, Pick 109/Brandon Hogan CB West Virginia: If this was real I would attribute him falling to round 4 to his drunk driving arrest. Character aside he is a return specialist & can potentialy be a gamebreaker with his ability to frustrate wideouts. Not close to starting yet but in time we'll see.

Rd5, Pick 141/Bilal Powell HB Louisville: A pick I kinda scratch my head about. Not particually fast & strength is not his best approch. Developmental obviously. A small chance he could do something but doubt it. My franchise back looks to be one draft away.

Re: Getback: The Redskins Dynasty

DEUCES! Cam Newton takes the talent & the hype to D.C.

LANDOVER, MD-- Mike Shanahan & Bruce Allen finally got their Cam.

The 2011 NFL Draft was highlighted by two draft picks that may shape the NFC East landscape for the next decade. The first notable was Stanford QB Andrew Luck landing in Philly at number 4. The other of course is perhaps the most controversal quarterback to come out of college in a long time, Heisman Trophy winner & National Champion Cam Newton coming in at a suprising lucky 13 to the Redskins.

A sign of things to come that Cam is at 13 & Luck came in 4? Who knows. All we know is no one can deny the talent of a Cam Newton. Also no one can deny that the pressure surely is on right now. Not just on Newton, but the Shanahans, Bruce Allen, the players, everyone in the organization is riding on the shoulders of the man fans in D.C. have already nicknamed "Deuces".

After what took place in the wild ride of Newtons college career, who knows what we may have in store in what is sure to be a exciting 17 weeks of football. This is the biggest risk the 'Skins have taken at the QB position in a long time. With all the draft picks & free agent pick ups in place, & now Newton, Washington is excited about their future. Hopefully they take a lession from the Browns, 49ers, Lions, & Raiders, whos recent QB woes have consumed their whole franchises.

If 2010 was the dress rehersal, 2011 will be the Shanahans & the Redskins first act.
