McGibblets CFB25 Dynasty Coach Mode Sliders

If you are looking for a doable (mostly) Coach Mode experience, give these sliders a shot.

Before trying these sliders, let me tell you what these sliders are not. These sliders were not created with the intention of reflecting real life college football stats. These sliders were created with the game's sim engine in mind. You will not get realistic season long stats with these sliders. The goal of these sliders is to get season long stats that are comparable to the results from the rest of the simmed games in your dynasty, not real life.

Also, there are some house rules to use with these sliders that are needed for coach mode to be viable, or at least a version of coach mode anyway. These sliders are not perfect. Obviously, if we could do true coach mode that would be preferred. EA didn't give us that option, so we just have to do the best we can with what we've got. If you aren't comfortable using these house rules, feel free to not use them. They are merely suggestions or guidelines. Play how you want. This is how I play and I enjoy it. I just want to share my experience.

Feel free to leave your thoughts about the sliders. Constructive feedback is always appreciated. Disrespectful and unnecessary comments will just be ignored. I have far too many other things to do than engage with that kind of stuff. In general, just be nice.

HOUSE RULES

1. No controlling players. This should be obvious, being that we are playing Coach Mode. Call your plays and make all your adjustments at the line of scrimmage, but no controlling of the players. There are two exceptions. See them listed below:
  1. Exception 1 – I will scramble my QB manually either straight up the field or at a forward angle towards the sideline. No special moves allowed and only running until tackled, forced to slide, throw the ball away, or run out of bounds. ALL of the following conditions must be met before running:

    1. All my receivers have completed their routes and are now just running to get open

    2. The QB is just hanging onto the ball for no apparent reason

    3. The defense is giving the QB an obvious lane to run with the ball. If the pocket is collapsing on my QB and there’s nowhere to run, I won’t run backwards to get out of the pocket. I just take the sack. Sideways and forward only.

  2. Exception 2 – I will manually throw the ball on HB Screen plays. Otherwise, it’s essentially an automatic sack. Choose your screen plays wisely though, because the CPU generally plays the screens well. You could still get sacked anyway or they could stuff the RB.

2. On defense, I control a single player and do not switch. The player you choose is up to you. My personal preference is to use a DT. Occasionally I will use a DE. I hold L1 on my controller until the play has ended. You don’t have to hold L1, but I feel like my guy generates a better pass rush when I hold L1. This could just be placebo effect. I’m not sure, but it’s not hurting anything.

3. For all option plays, I use player lock on my RB. Otherwise, the QB never keeps the ball on the read option. For other option plays, I believe he will pitch it. Regardless, I player lock on my RB anyway. I do not use player lock for RPO plays, but you can. Personal choice here. I realize the player lock camera is less than ideal. But it is what it is. Not much we can do about it. Don't use player lock if you don't like the camera.

4. I manually kick my extra points and really easy field goals. I also manually kick my kickoffs. Any field goal longer than extra point range or any punt I will use slow sim. I play out all cpu special teams.

XP Sliders – I'm using funkycorm's sliders. Feel free to use whatever you'd like.

I will give these a try this weekend and give feedback. I've been playing coach mode for over 20 years in this series and I've been looking for some decent sliders for this entry.

Question: Does adjusting Holding to 58 affect the gameplay or is it just to get more holding calls?

I noticed you set speed threshold to 85. What exactly does that do?

The holding slider is pretty sensitive in terms of number of holding calls that get called. Even at 58 it feels like those ticky tack holding calls get called sometimes. But I found lower than 58 you don’t get that many holding calls at all. Once you start getting towards 60 you really start seeing a lot of holding calls.

This lowers the amount of distance between the fastest and slowest players on the field. With it set to 0, the game is wide open and way too fast. The default is 50 and still way too wide open. Lowering this slows it down a bit. In Madden the right setting has been between 75 and 95 for the last few years. So I tried 95 and wasn’t getting quite enough separation. Even passing yards per attempt were too low at 95, averaging around 6.5 yards per pass attempt. At 85, I’ve been getting closer to where the sim results are. The sim results were around 8.5 yards per pass attempt on average. I got that number by recording season long stats from all 134 teams. 85 is still a hair low, but it’s better. You could likely get away with going up 75, I just prefer it to be a little slower than that.

I'm a bit confused. My path to success in NCAA 14 was to recruit speed. What number is neutral with player attributes being accurately reflected?

Depends on who you ask. Like most sliders, we’ve never been given a clear explanation on that from EA.

There’s a popular thread in the Madden forums about 95 speed threshold being the speed setting that the devs designed to be true to real life. It’s a good read if you ever get time to read it.

What I can tell you for certain is that in my test dynasty that I gathered the sim results from, average pass yards per attempt was 8.6 yards per pass attempt. At 85 speed threshold I’m averaging between 8 and 9 yards per pass attempt.

At 95 speed threshold, I’m averaging between 7 and 8 yards per pass attempt. This is why I settled on 85.
