OK...here is the deal and hopefully this will save you from yourselves. This is literally a day 0 release of information. We got a trailer...that in all likelihood revealed a SMALL minutia of what to come...but more so...had Madden 17 written all over it with the "in game" play scenes we saw. Not holding Madden to that until we see it firsthand at E3..Period. The back of the box description...is so bare bones that its typical marketing Madden. Coverage assignments can mean a ton of things and I for one am brushing it aside until further news comes explaining...simply because I know me and I will get furious if I am hyping myself up for a feature that under delivers. Thats my tactic, I would say follow suite because we have all been following madden long enough (I myself have seen 4 developer teams come through) that attempting to unravel the method of thought is pointless. I am not even putting much thought into the "styles of play yet" simply because WE know what that means to US...but what does that mean to THEM. What have we been playing all these years? They called THAT sim so what is the baseline to them and what sim do they think they will bless us with? The teaser had me buying this just because there is enough for ME that warrants my day one purchase and dissecting the scarce information we have isnt gonna help. LOL Bottom line...I am taking the following approach that has helped the past two Maddens.

1. Assume nothing and dont read in between the lines. Trust me...I have enough gray hairs that prove otherwise.

2. Take info in stride. Goes with #1. Madden is a victim of its own bad marketing. SCEA dominates IMO with this and it all revolves around Russel Ramone. He is a dang good PR and face for MLB the show. He interacts with DOZENS of sites including this one and MLB the show is better for it. Madden team only does twitter which is a dying social media medium. Expecting Madden to be any different and releasing meaningful explanations of its feature in a timely manner is gonna age you quick.

3. I love the private eyes in this forum. They take a picture and dissect the mess of it looking for little golden nuggets of truth. Post E3 I will take notice of such finding but from the first trailer...its always a touch up not representation of the game that we will get in august. The Madden jump from Xbox to 360 where TO and Mcnabb taught me that valuable lesson.

Lol. I agree. I'm buying, regardless. I always buy madden and FIFA every year. So, for me, it doesn't matter. And, I'm trying to help people not get too hyped. The coverage assignments is a great example. We don't know everything about it, but based on the back of box, it is NOT what people first think of. I think most people instantly think, 'ok. I can lineup my #1 CB on my #1 WR and lock him up.' But, if u read that description, its really just some tackle cone type of UI to help user cover. Now, perhaps they also added CB/WR matchups as well and u can assign them. So, u never know till later. But yeah, overall, gotta watch that early hype.

Clint wanted to get it in for a title update last year, but it didn't make the cut.

So, with Rex's tweet, hopefully, 2 plus 2 = 4.

I'm really interested to know the mechanics behind it. At first I figured it would have to be something super easy to appease the casuals but the more I think about it I think they might take the same route as the ball-carrier moves last year where there is tiers of difficulty for it. Basically the easiest being auto where the game does everything for you and the hardest being you get to choose velocity and location with some options in the middle.

It seems like something that could really be game changing for both the user and AI if done properly but also has the potential to either be not as useful or free as they're depicting or too clunky and difficult for people to be able to use and enjoy. Definitely eager to see this in action and see what the controls are behind it.

Yeah, this is def the most interesting thing to see fleshed out from only seeing back of box stuff. And, I absolutely mean no insult to madden developers when I say this, this could either be implemented in a creative and intuitive fashion, or it could be HORRIBLE!! Lol. I mean, the timing is always the issue. If they do the pass rush correctly, you've got 2-5 secs to find the WR, throw the ball, and then aim something (perhaps?). So, I mean, for me, that being said, I feel it has to be easy enough to perform within the time allotted to throw the ball. I always felt this was why a lot of people didn't like the vision cone. They couldn't move in the pocket, aim the cone, and throw the ball, it was like 1 thing too many for them. This will probably be the same for them. For me, I loved the vision cone. So, it this implementation is something like, 'press X for WR X', and then u have a split second while your QB is in throwing motion to move an icon that starts with the wr's current location or something, and then u flick the stick inside, upfield, towards the corner of end zone, etc, then it could be cool. The devil is in the details on this one. And, as u say, and I could not agree more, if this removes the tethering, I am ALL ABOUT IT!! Lol. The tethering for years has truly been something that kept madden behind, and is always one of those NFL 2k vs madden talking points that comes up. Looking forward to seeing vids of this for sure.
