We created a damn fine golf game in TGC. We were well aware that it didn't have every option in the world but it had the ability to create every course. Something that had been lacking in the genre.
We had the balls to go toe to toe with the big boys and the ability to put out the game on all platforms and we had moderate success.
TGC2 is the next step - graphically it's miles better. You can see that with your eyes from the screenshot hb released.
And the only thing you seem to be focusing on is the transition between grass types. Which 99% of people including reviewers won't notice.

I know I'm not working at HB anymore or on the game but I can tell you that what was there when I left at Christmas was a huge stride forward in terms of game play and visuals over TGC. As well as huge improvements in the designer.

I just don't understand why you'd want to cut it down before you've even got your hands on it. As a developer it's tiring reading stuff like this when you put your heart and soul into something for 2 years for 16hrs a day. It's one of the reasons I decided to take a break from making games.

If the games not for you that's fine, you can even make valid pros and cons in an argument as to why and the developers are highly likely to listen.
But it's a genre of games that you love and instead of championing the small guys that decided to shake things up a bit you are taking pot shots at one screenshot.

So my point is if everyone that loves golf games works together we'll get 2 or 3 on the market. If we keep trying to belittle every effort the genre will become the desert that is the tennis genre and no one wants that

Good post, Anthony. I am a big MLB The Show fan, if you have any interest in baseball video games, then you know that development team is extremely engaging. But just the other day, as I was reading people moan about things that they haven't seen yet, I was thinking how horrible it must be for a developer to be so excited about a product they are making to seeing people just degrade it without even having all the information or taking into consideration the amount of stuff that HAS been added.

People tend to think what you do is easy. "I don't understand why they can't just do this, or do that." Yeah, no kidding you don't understand. You didn't go to school for 4-6 years learning code then have another 5+ years of working experience to understand that making the grass have individual blades is a royal time suck and takes mad skills to do it.

As a fan of video games, and a recruiter in the IT industry, it gets tiresome to read. I can only imagine how developers feel. Just remember the old adage "you can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time"

Who does that?

Call it as you see it, but don't get upset when someone calls you out on the ridiculousness of it.
Not sure what post you read but I don't think I would get upset over any forum reply.
It's a discussion board........We all got an opinion right.

Yes we all have an opinion. I can agree with that. Basing an opinion off one screen shot doesn't seem reasonable to me though. But hey, you want to do that, go for it.

I don't think I posted anywhere that the game would be poor,I just stated that it doesn't appear to have changed much visually.
I supported TGC across three platforms so I am well acquainted with the look of the game.
The transition between surfaces is a much talked about point & was even acknowledged by HB studios as a potential area for improvement for TGC2.
It hasn't been improved & now it's described as an area that only the most obsessive among course designers & gamers would be bothered about.

Maybe you should go back and re-read the thread. You started off on page 1 and continued throughout that the ONE single screenshot must have meant there was no real progression in the game. Your replies have been less than detailed until the last couple of posts with the exception of one about wondering why they aren't showing off the new graphics yet. Again, you have literally used one screenshot to determine the graphics are no better outside of lighting and golfer animations (which doesn't make any sense since you can't see an animation in a screenshot) and that the gameplay likely won't be better either. And maybe you didn't say this year's gameplay would be poor but I think most people would interpret "And the gameplay was poor in TGC with the exception of putting." along with "Looks the same as TGC" along with "Don't expect a big improvement on TGC" to mean you think, again based on ONE screenshot, that you think this year's gameplay will be poor.

As for the grass transition and Anthony's reply, maybe they have improved it and you haven't seen it yet or maybe they haven't. What it appears to me that Anthony is saying is that is the ONE area you are focusing on which happens to be an area that nearly all people wouldn't notice. He didn't say it didn't get improved and he didn't say it won't be improved. You just only focused on that. Until of course you read the rest and see what you think about their gameplay outside of putting.

I can appreciate you having a civil discussion. All too often that doesn't happen. With that said, I don't feel it necessary to continue. There has literally not been one person to agree with your stance or opinion on this game or developer based on ONE screenshot. You clearly don't see how the approach you took was of a demeaning mindset so no need for me to try and point it out to you anymore. Many have done so already and you still don't see it.

So with that said, good luck. Hopefully the development team will fall upon EA's bank account and can produce a game, in it's third iteration, that you feel compelled to buy and have fun playing. Until then, buy at your own risk.

OK I think we will leave it there,I think you've put on a sufficiently impressive display.
Amazing how forum posts can get completely manipulated into something they never intended to be.
Strange how you only start posting when you have an audience........have a good rest of the day.

You knew exactly what your first post wanted to be. It was clear as day. You've had an agenda this entire thread.
