Re: MLB The Show 17 Video - Franchise Mode

Clearly I'm in the minority here but I honestly can't think of a big new feature I would like in franchise mode. I was excited for these videos hoping I'd see something new and exciting that I hadn't thought of, but I'm plenty happy going back to the franchise mode I've been playing for a little while now. I'm also pretty confident we'll hear some good news thursday regarding game logic and some changes to existing features, the sorts of tweaking and tuning they do every year but that wouldn't fit in this video. Honestly with where the mode is at right now, polishing it up around the edges is plenty exciting to me.

However, I learned from one of the devs on here yesterday that San Diego Studio's team is only about 1/4 the size of NBA 2K's.

That stunned me when I found that out. These guys, despite the small size of the development team, have made The Show a better baseball game than NBA 2K is a basketball game, so far as on-field play goes.

Notice the Houston Rockets avatar I have. I'm primarily a basketball fan. I just got into The Show with 14 because I needed a baseball game for my collection--I hadn't really owned one since Griffey Slugfest on the N64. And then I had a fantastic time, so I bought The Show 15. And 16. And now preordered 17. Despite all manpower and licensing obstacles, they haven't disappointed me yet...unlike NBA 2K12 did, and 2K17 has.

Anyway, as for relocation and expansion, my gut tells me that's more the fault of Major League Baseball, not the dev team. If MLB says they can't do something, they can't do that thing. That's why player suspensions of ANY kind are not in the game--it would make the league look bad. "What, OUR players do that? Nah, what are you talking about? That can't happen!"

MLB is staunchly protective of their image--and until recently, their copyright. Remember when it was really difficult to get a baseball clip onto YouTube? Now we have guys like BronxBomber42 making highlight reels, and the actual MLB YouTube channel putting ENTIRE GAMES online--including that awesome World Series Game 7.

So maybe we'll get team creation/movement in the future, and be able to give Montreal back a team (I'll just stop there before I launch into a rant about Jeffrey Loria being the reincarnation of Harold Ballard).
Does it suck that they're not there? Of course.
But SDS has their hands tied by the license. They can only do what they're allowed.
SDS is the train. MLB is the tracks. A train can't go anywhere but where its rails take it.

So to do what they've already done, with a dev team that small?
Ramone Russell and the crew will ALWAYS have my respect for that.
I almost wish they would take a year off and rebuild Franchise and RRTS from scratch

You probably already know this, but that will never happen. I believe the answer is already in place; with their small team they will have to make small advances forward. It's a balancing act to hit everything they want to hit.

And there are many who don't have a daughter or son or other commitments that prevent them from playing every game. I don't have time to go to all my hockey games but I still have season tickets. The point is there are options to play faster games. Heck there are options to play fewer games. But if you want a fully immersive baseball game...well..that means playing every game and every pitch. Why should the purist be penalized? Even SCEA says it wants a game that is as true to life as possible. I don't have time to play every game either but shouldn't I or others have that option?

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make but you do have the option to play every pitch of every game.

Re: MLB The Show 17 Video - Franchise Mode

Loving the new updates to this year's franchise. As an over 40 gamer, I actually have tons of time (no kids) to play games, but because of the 162 game season, I do usually sim some games. I try to play at least one game of each series though.

The ability to jump around within games and get critical chances in others is a great addition. Nice work Devs. I know we same some presentation stuff, but I hope the final version includes more on screen stat stuff (more than they showed) so I get a chance to see stats while playing and not just when I want to deep dive into them (which I sometimes will do, but funner to play the game than wade into menus and spend time looking at stats).

As far as quirks, I think they are also a nice idea. But I would rather have it happen under the hood as opposed to I have to toggle them on. If a guy is a great late inning hitter, just give his stats the boost without me having to ask for it. Same for the other quirks. I don't think I like the idea of a guy only being great at something if I toggle it, as opposed to how he is IRL. But drafting guys with specific quirks will be very interesting I think. Nice work.

Will this player lock option still be option still be available if you player lock during a full 9 inning game 45 minute experience?

Re: MLB The Show 17 Video - Franchise Mode

I have to admit that I'm pretty stoked about the new additions to franchise mode. Each year I try so hard to complete a 162 game franchise, and just can never get it done. Typically I get about 100 to 120 games in. With everything going on with life stuff, sometimes I only have about 20 or 30 minutes of free time. With these new additions there will be no excuses to get all 162 in this year!
