What would be the problem? If you're only playing to "reach your full potential", then you may as well just buy VC from day #1. The fun is not about "being the best", the fun is in the challenge and the experience.

I would love it. Realism = immersion. Challenge = fun. I want the experience of playing a realistic sand-box experience of NBA career. Not a predefined story where you're the superstar from day dot in High School.

It's the same reason I expect they make these stupid, boring stories every year, because some marketing genius at 2K has it in their head that nobody will play it unless they have their ego massaged and get treated like a super-star from day #1 of High School no matter how good they actually really are. They don't seem to get that if it's pre-scripted that you're a star, it's no fun and no challenge, and actually just frustrating and annoying and unrealistic and detracts from the career mode.

And if you don't want to play in the same team, request a trade. That said, I must admit that I want the most realism they can deliver in general, but if they're a little more relaxed when it comes to freedom to move your player from team to team, then I'd be cool with that.

What I really hate is the scripted, stilted storyline with zero option to skip the cut-scenes (or better yet, just turn them off).

Seriously, what the hell are they thinking not allowing players to skip cut-scenes or disable them? Are they afraid that everyone would just skip them? If they are, then they seriously need to ask themselves why they're putting them in it in the first place. It vapid logic. It just annoys those players who don't like them.

... the problem isn't that your player isn't good enough for the narrative. It's that the narrative is too good for your player. I don't mind starting at the bottom and working my way up and I didn't buy a $60 game just to "have a good player". If that's what you like, good for you, just buy a bunch of VC and you will.

The problem is the narrative and the fact that it's totally stilted and scripted, not your starting stats. And the reason it can't change is because they insist on including cut-scenes and it would probably be too much work to make cut-scenes for every level of player. The solution? Leave the cut-scenes out. It seems only about 1% of people in this thread actually like them anyway. Replace them with written magazine articles or just social media comments or something that would be far easier to add a heap of variety to.

If you play Blacktop, here's some VC. You want to just [i]PlayNow? Here's 1000 VC. Online MyLeague with your friends, here's another 1000 VC per game.

Oh you pre-ordered? Here's 5000 (minimum) VC

And for every game you play in MyCareer, here's 400-900 VC.

You get VC by playing 2k17, and you can spend it however, and wherever you want.

You can save a bunch of VC and use it all on your MyPlayer if you want before you even play an NBA game.

There's no shortage of VC if you're enjoying the game as a whole.
Agree with everything except the paragraph in red. As someone else commented just before or after the quoted thread, "Cognitive dissonance. Game designers need to learn how to make games" (or something). Too true.

The fun of any game is the challenge. The potential for failure and winning anyway. But you have to be able to fail for that to work. It it absolutely no fun, nor is it exciting for me to have a story rammed down my throat where I'm automatically "the next big thing", especially if I didn't earn it, and more than that, it's just stupid and and unrealistic.

If you disagree and you're paying the money for the game just to be the next Lebron James, just dish out an extra 50 bucks and buy a bunch of VC. Or better yet - just play as Lebron James.

Let me put it this way regarding your starting player ratings:

I am a better basketball player in real life than my #2 overall NBA draft pick My Player. I'm faster, I have better reaction time, and I can damn sure shoot better. So yes, My Career has a realism problem, because the player you start out with has no business even playing basketball at the college level, much less being drafted to an NBA team.

I support 2k's right to have VC and I have not bought a single VC credit, so I'm not hating or saying they're "forcing" you to do anything. But the combination of a game released with so many problems, LEGITIMATELY broken features, and the VC push in MyCareer has me bailing ship.

I will NOT buy 2k next year unless significant changes are made to VC and the game's core features are confirmed to work out of the box.

The state of things right now is DESPICABLE and DISRESPECTFUL to customers.
I agree. It is a despicable and carny practice to do this.

Lol. Exactly. I'm not taking the bait anymore. Only reason I even got 2K16, was because it was free on PSN.
