Great article there, that speaks on contested vs. uncontested shot percentages. How some players are better are contested shots vs. uncontested.

Def relevant to this discussion. This also got me thinking, maybe for 2k17 (Cause im sure '16 is almost ready to go) 2k can revamp shooting ratings to incorporate Contested Shot Rating and Uncontested Shot rating.

I asked for this two years in a row it is the way to go IMO as long as they have rational decisions to do the ratings when there is a player with not enough data or shots.

I def agree. If 2k can examine more advanced stats and metrics, ala "Contested/Uncontested Field Goal %" and incorporate that into the already existing shooting ratings, we'd probably find a balance with the green releases/user skill/ and how it correlates to a player's rating/ability to make said shots.

The funny thing is all of this data is available for free on NBA.com. They wouldn't need a perfect release success rate just have it so your perfect release gives you your maximum rating based off %s

That's why it's hard for me to replicate certain players' playstyles in the game.

Guys like Kobe or T-Mac thrive off making a quick move then a leaning midrange over the defender. Deadeye+Shot Creator is the closest thing but it still doesn't help as much.
Lebron hits contested layups at ease but not in 15, he's more likely just to posterize at every chance.
And don't get me started on Iverson.

Re: Green Releases Much Rarer in NBA 2K16, No Longer 100%

Spoiler

I am sorry, but you're wrong. I've been playing 2K since dreamcast and got more hours in on 2K15. Defense isn't really hard to play offline, but online it's way tougher than it should be because of the lag input, silly defensive animations and etc. People shouldn't even have a problem defending someone going left to right. I mean, c'mon. And I've been playing this game for the longest and it's a pain to guard. They all do the same type of moves and you still can rarely guard it:

They are either doing a size up, run left to right, behind the back left to the right, stepback stepback stepback, behind the back left run left behind the back right. All in the same possession lol. If you can keep up with that, and get the contest animation, it's still most likely going in with someone that mastered the shot + deadeye + being 7'+. This is Park and Rec but regular games are a little more fair, but it's still hard to keep up with the offensive player.

You can't defend patch 4. It was horrible. It was much much better before that patch. People rarely even took 3s like that, but now you can give a open lane for a layup and they'll turn around just to go to the 3pt line lmao. You play the park, you see the type of shots even the worst players make. Before the patch, you could even sag off some players, now people are money. Especially from midrange. People don't even really shoot mid but try to drive and accidentally shoot or do a leaning shot and you know it's good. Don't even lie bro. You know it is. That's fake and it's a problem. And it goes for layups, post fades all of that.

And this is just not Park or Rec. It happens in MC on HOF Rondo hitting 3s and other cats that can't even shoot, most definitely MyTeam but that's the easiest mode in the game, and etc. The defense was already not that good because of the lag input but that patch made offense that much more favored. You can't just keep dismissing people as "casuals" because they don't agree or don't have as many hours in the game as you. Some people know how to play defense and mostly everyone know these things are issues. Patch #4 was definitely a problem lol.
