Actually.. After seeing both trailers I think madden looks Arcade-like and cartoonish and NHL looks more real.

Here we go. Yes people complain about Joe Thornton not looking like Thornton and player model equipment, etc. That's all people have to go on. You would think that if you release something that small, it should be correct. Everything looks nice in slow mo and zoomed in. Throw in some Emrick yelling and you have the "trailer". All of that stuff they debuted is in 14. The biggest problem I have with the series is they don't improve enough, but they claim everything is scrapped every year. How many years did we have new physics engine in the 360/ps3 era? 4? Puck physics were the worst they have ever been in 14.

Still not sure why the current gen system limitations mean we can't get some of the options and nuances we had in ps2/xbox days. Were those systems stronger than current ones?

Back to the trailer, it was rather blah. If you cut down the sound it looks like 10-14 all over again. I'm glad you can keep running guys down from behind, they must have taken that from Madden. Puck also looks really easy to roof. Goaltender animations still need help.

I liked the new fighting engine myself, I thought it made the fights themselves more immersive and more in the player's control rather than just tapping a button trying to knock the other guy out.

Off the top of my head of improvements since 10, Skating, AI (though still not where it needs to be with neutral zone pressure) AI tender logic, physics, visuals, incidental contact. less sure fire money goals offline (again I don't play online can't judge there) HUT & Be a Pro for those that like those types of modes,That's just off the top of my head.

Do you play sports games to have fun or to pick apart every yearly iteration for not being a perfect representation of real life?
I play sports games to have fun. Why the hell would I pay $60 to play something that I don't enjoy (hence the reason I never bought 14), only to just pick apart. You seem to be under the assumption that I just love picking apart the game. You have no idea how much I hate that. I use this forum as a way to release my anger because of how frustrating this game is. MLB The Show is a game that I have pure enjoyment. The game has it's faults, but it is so much like the real life sport that the small faults aren't nearly as big because the gameplay is good.

I agree the fighting engine was done pretty well when I tried the game out, but how often do fights happen? Not often. Instead of them fixing board play so players no longer kick a puck the same speed as the puck can be passed with a stick, they add fighting. To me that just doesn't seem logical. Board play happens throughout the course of the game a lot more than fighting yet fighting gets fixed and board play has been the exact same since it was put into the game. To me those are the decisions that kill this game, and the reason it gets hated on. Instead of fixing the dump in glitch, they put out tuners and patches to "fix" other things. They put in the most rare occurrences seen in hockey, instead of fixing or implementing the most seen occurrences in hockey. I just don't see improvement as adding in rare occurrences, only to leave the most basic things untouched or not implemented into the game.

Most people (especially EA devs) think that in order to have a fun sports game, you need to have more "fun features". Making everyone get used to the flashiness and big hits isn't the right way to go. Yes it's amazing to pull off a great deke in a one on one situation but in real life players don't pull off amazing dekes every single breakaway or skating through each zone. When Drew Doughty pulled off that sick through the legs deke to score it is an ESPN Top Ten play. In NHL as we know it now we pull those plays off at least 5 times a game between the 2 teams playing.

What needs to happen in sports video games especially with the power in these systems is that they need to make the game play how it's played in real life. It shouldn't be so easy to skate past somebody. There should be way more dumps and chasing, neutral zone play, disparity between strong forechecking teams like the Kings or fast teams like the Rangers. The Kings are much slower than the rangers and it shows. But you won't see that in NHL.

By having more realistic and challenging game it allows players to actually have to try and beat their opponent by using strategy or your teams strengths to win. It feels a lot better when I score a goal in a 0-0 match late in the 3rd during a tough game rather than scoring 8 total goals purely by weaving through the defense then either 3-move deking the goalie or passing across for a one timer every single time. People would be so frustrated in a defensive battle and complain the game is too hard which is why we probably won't see a realistic representation of sports and it's sad.

There needs to be way more board play, less tripping & charging penalties, and much more stick lifting. With stick lifting it should probably be more of an automatic thing and the player with the puck has to try and keep control using the right stick. The puck should never be attached to the stick. I know it's late but I think passing and shooting should be switched around. In order to pass you should flick the right stick in the direction of where you want it. To shoot you hold RT. Dumping is moving the right stick to the left or right and flicking upward. How quickly you flick the stick determines how hard/fast/high of a dump it is.

With kinect you can take away line changes using the face buttons and have verbal switching allowing you to "be the coach". And find a new way to use the face buttons for something new. Maybe the face buttons could be used for more ways to stick check or some advanced way to skate by holding it.
Idk

Re: NHL 15: E3 Trailer and Details - Release Date Set For September 9th

Everyone wants as much control as possible. But in a video game you cannot control every aspect of a sport the way you ca in real life. Just because I can TRY to deke with Chara doesn't mean I should be able to do it effectively. It is impossible to poke check/stick check/stick lift as much as a real NHL player defending the puck. If you try to in NHL now you get a tripping or high stick penalty. Yes it happens but not as often. Boarding shouldn't be called as much either but then again the reason that happens is because there's no way to pin a guy to the board after a dump without using the board button (which is soft) or using the "hit stick" and destroying the guy. Defenders shouldn't give the offense so much space as it is now but at the same time it shouldn't be that easy to get the puck. By using the right stick for passing you can pass quicker and keep the puck in your control. To deke hold RB and use the right stick to deke as we do now

I'm buying into the hype.. lol.

If that's real broadcast clips from the game, I'm going to poop myself. Lots of good stuff to take away from that trailer.
