You guys are missing one OBVIOUS "reason" why that wouldn't be possible. This "reason" was not just contingent to the success of Live 10, HE WAS THE #1 COGNITIVE PIECE and because of his absence they had to start over from scratch because they didn't know what they were doing without him. Thus the birth of Elite 11, which would later go on to become the wake of NBA Live.

This Live 13 footage is just the viewing for the body before its buried.
Nobody is missing that reason my man. Building on Live 10 would mean that Mike Wang would still be at EA. They had the best in the business in-house and they let him leave cause they wanted that steaming pile of garbage Elite and that's pretty much why he bolted. The issues with Live are from a top down problem and not the other way a around.

And EA even said at the beginning of August that they the game wasnt cancelled and they were trying to get into beta
C'mon man quit it. You about to seperate your shoulder with this reaching. The problems in that video extend beyond somebody playing bad on purpose. These are issues with the very code of the game.

Quit spitting up that pre-alpha garbage because as it's been pointed out time and again, THIS video is NOT pre-alpha.

From what some have said, it appears to be from around July but a later build than what was seen at E3.

This could be an incredibly evil marketing play ot set the bar ULTRA low and then blow us out of the water or this is what it is and hopefully it is decent enough that they build on it for next year. Sadly its looking like the latter....something we shouldnt have to deal with in 2012, let alone from EA Sports....
Man this ain't no marketing play. They aren't about to blow us out of the water with something, if they were we would've saw it yesterday. If this build is as old as they say it is, where's the current build that ****s all over that version? It's now August 22nd release is scheduled for October 2nd. We still have no officially released anything from EA but some beat up *** screenshots. No cover guy, no official "post pre-alpha" gameplay, no sizzle trailers, no shoe hype, not even word if this damn thing is actually going to be a physical, tangible object or not. If this leaked video didn't happen we would still be in the mist of NBA Blackout 13.

Yeah the MIA Heat user style of play wasnt great, but the CPU gameplay wasnt better. At the start of the game, you see Thabo trying to create for himself(really?) and their first couple of shots are nothing but jumpers. Floor spacing was solid for the most part, but there were times where all of the Thunder players are on the same side of the court on offense. People were not joking when they were comparing the video to games from 2002.

Very frustrating.

As I've said since the Elite debacle, stop trying to add features, online modes, and all that garbage. Fix the core of the game first before you go building on top of a weak foundation.
Hoosier,
Isn't it clear by now that they don't know how?

Here's what I think is going on over at EA-
They liked Live 10. Maybe even loved it.
But they got caught up in Metacritic scores and coming off the success of the NHL and FIFA games...they figured let's throw hockey guy in as the lead on the bball project and they'd have the same success.

This decision pissed off Mike Wang who wanted full/near total control (which his background in the genre clearly showed he deserved) and there was some power struggle.

Remember back when 10 came out..Mike was saying he didn't get everything he wanted to get in the game because IIRC...he went over to EA while they were at the tail end of readying Live 09 and had little input on that game.

Wang left. Hockey guy said it's cool...we have the team..the resources and the ANT to put any sports game together.

Problem was...the Devs that were left over had no idea how to do what Wang did and they spent the time leading up to Elite 11 trying to:
1. Replicate what Wang brought into the fold in Live 10 and
2. Completely revamp the controls into an NHL shot stick mapping and
3. Introduce a physics based engine..completely scrapping contextual animations which Wang was brilliant at.

The remaining hardcore bball guys at EA like stephensonmc were either pissed at the direction the game was going in and/or were let go.

So you were left with guys who knew how to animate hockey and soccer but had no idea how to animate basketball players. But hey...the smartest guy in the room who was given the lead on the project convinced everyone that even an ape could put a bball game together.

This was the reason why guys like reAnimator were so perplexed that there were negative reactions to the Venice Beach Elite 11 footage. Forget Bynum at halfcourt. That's a bug.

Hockey dude was pleased that a human controlled player..no matter how good or bad..could sink 3 point shot after 3 point shot because NBA player and skill ratings were irrelevant (didn't Playmakers sit here year after year complaining about Live's player ratings...even before Elite).

This was the equivalent of taking the worse NHL player...putting him at center ice...and because you have the shots tick timing down pat...you could score at will.

Elite 11 leaks. The masses cry foul. And two years later..the Devs are still building upon a broken foundation trying to emulate game codes created by the guy who works for the competition.

And here we are today. After E3. After the earnings release. After Gamescom. After Cedric's leaked video.

They are trying to build a multi-million dollar house on an earthquake fault line.

IMO, live 13 has a decent foundation for future iterations of the series, the video is probably from an earlier build or maybe not, but from what i saw, it looked decent. there was player differential in terms of body build and speed/quickness, passing seemed solid, and the likenesses of the players looked good. its by no means perfect but it is a good start coming from scratch. to be clear im not a fanboy of either series just the sport of basketball itself and from what i saw i liked... troll on that f.....ers
You have got to be kidding me right? Wow............ok lets see where this goes..............

I've been playing basketball games since Double Dribble and Hoops for Nintendo so I think I can give insight on this for you bro. For each year I will list the best simulation basketball games out in that yr.

1990-Lakers versus Celtics and the NBA Playoffs/EA Sports
1991-Bulls versus Lakers and the NBA Playoffs/EA Sports
1992-Bulls versus Blazers and the NBA Playoffs/EA Sports
1993-NBA Showdown/EA Sports
1994-NBA Showdown 94/EA Sports
1995-NBA Live 95/EA Sports
1996-NBA Live 96/EA Sports
1997-NBA Live 97/EA Sports
1998-NBA Live 98/EA Sports
1999-NBA Live 99/EA Sports
2000-NBA Live 2000/EA Sports & NBA 2K/2K Sports (I was playing Live, but I can't deny 2K was far more superior)
2000-NBA 2K1/2K Sports
2001-NBA Live 2002/EA Sports (IMO even though credits say NBA 2K2 was much better)
2002-NBA 2K3/2K Sports (I bought Live 03, but I took it back for it being too arcade for my liking. This is the year the tables turned)
2003-ESPN NBA Basketball/2K Sports
2004-ESPN NBA 2K5/2K Sports
2005-NBA 2K6/2K Sports
2006-NBA 2K7/2K Sports
2007-NBA 2K8/2K Sports
2008-NBA 2K9/2K Sports
2009-NBA 2K10/2K Sports

You see the pattern here? Dude if EA took the time to make a good NBA Simulation this wouldn't be a discussion.
