Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)

After playing the demo for the last several days I thought I would take a look at my stats and use that and what I see on the field to determine what I think about the game. Madden 13 defiantly has additional work to do to ensure silly things don't hamper the overall experience.

Listed below are my observations: (I played one game with each team on All-Pro and with zero changes to sliders, etc.)

+ Played 4 games and wrote down some of the stats. Overall I had a 65% completion rate and 729 yards passing. (8 TD / 4 INT)

+DB's and WR's seem to high point the ball and go up to actually get it. This looks good in motion.

+ Best rusing effort was 19 for 54 yards with Helu.

+ The passing game is nice. I can put the ball in a spot where only my guy can make a play. I like that it doesn’t guarantee a catch or TD but instead simply makes me feel like I have more control.

- Controller reaction time - I threw a pick with Eli Manning and watched Patrick Willison run down the sideline. As he was running I will still controlling Manning and was locked into his animations. He took 2 -3 steps backwards before I was able to fully control Manning. Needless to say that took him completely out of the play.

- Needed animation - The game needs an animation where the RB puts a hand on the back of his linemen when he gets stuck on the line. Too often you are almost stuck on the Oline's back hip. It would be nice for the RB to out his non ball hand on the back of the Oline and then you could continue running, rolling off their backs. I believe 2K had this animation back in the day.

- Collision detection needs to be improved. Some tackles look great, but other times my RB seems forced into a sort of pushed down animation. The problem is there is no sense of the defensive player actually pushing him down. Also the wrap up animation needs serious work.

This was my experience as well.

I haven't played Madden in four years, so I thought I'd be very rusty at the passing game. But like you Franchise, I was able to go right down the field with ease throwing the same slant pass repeatedly. The cpu AI seemed to never adjust to calling the same formation, play, or pass to the same player. Hopefully the retail games defense will play much tighter/smarter.

I really hate how they get stuck behind the back. I dont complain about much because i know patches will come...i actually was stuck behind a lineman and he made me fall...blitzin dont work at all for me. and the cpu qb knows when u are locked on a db and he will try u

If it's anything like last year, I wouldn't count on it. That's all I did last year as well. With Michael Crabtree positioned in the slot, I turned him into the best receiver in the league, coming just a few yards shy of Jerry Rice's all time single season record on nothing but slants and drags. This year I feel will be even worse due to what is ironically enough an improvement in the passing game. Now that receivers make catches in stride instead of going into their slow down animations, Crabtree is regularly breaking slant patterns for 15 - 20 yards catching the passes in stride. And on slant pattern particularly gets Randy Moss wide open in space and I can bust it for 80 - done multiple times now.

I'm very concerned that even on All-Madden, Alex Smith and Michael Crabtree are going to be a duo of historic proportions that put even Young / Rice, Manning / Harrison, or Stafford / Johnson to shame.

Sorry but the continuous attempt to kill others enjoyment is simply not going to work on some people, let alone me. There's plenty of others around you can be miserable with.
I am not attempting to kill anyone's enjoyment, I am making a simple statement about my experiences with the game and doing so in the thread designed to do that.

I only quoted you because you were the most recent person I saw making that claim. Instead of taking my opinion as a personal attack on yours, perhaps you could rebutt by telling me the things you feel make this game unpredictable with a sense of "anything can happen". I may not agree with the examples you cite and experiences you've had, but its far more productive than taking my dislike of the game and disagreement of your opinion personally.

You didn't make a "simple" statement.
You turned peoples feelings that they feel the game has a "Anything can happen" into a list of everything you don't like with a lot having zero to do with the "Anything can happen" scenario. Some, for the record, I totally agree with you on but just didn't have anything to do with "Anything Can happen" feeling posts.

Maybe I just read it wrong but certain posters are endlessly posting the same thing over and over in every thread. My appoligies, sincerely.

The point is if that's how others feel there's simply no reason to say they are wrong. To think if others enjoy something, that they have to "prove it" to those that don't is not right.

However:
RB's getting tackled but falling on a body and getting up and running, or the tipped balls we are seeing now actually getting picked off- Like one I had where the ball was laying on a defender and my WR grabbed it and took off and scored. It was reviewed and upheld... bad handoffs resulting in a busted play etc..etc..
Those are some of the reasons I get the anything can happen feeling....

Just simply tired (Not really you) of some other posters who feel the need to go into EVERY thread and post the same complaints over and over again. They simply can't post what they don't like and move on. They have to keep doing it over and over especially when they see a positive post.
I could care less if people like it or not although some feel they need to let everyone know in every thread that they hate it.

I think it may be time to just leave the general forum for the remainder of this year. Life's too short to be bothered with the trivial stuff...

Peace.

I'm amazed at how much whining their is about this game. Maybe people are so used to complaining about this game, that they're just finding any little thing to complain about this year. Like the post play trips and falls. Those are hilarious, in my opinion. People need to remember that this is a game; it isn't going to be perfect. Good grief, I was one of the biggest Madden haters there was for awhile (and for good reason), but this is getting a bit ridiculous. Complaining about visible armpits of a certain player. Is that what it's come to?

3 points for graphics, 1 point for the passable commentary, and a half point for the boxart. I can give no further points since the all over the place gameplay would ruin it anyway.

Yup..all of the those that have the retail game..every video i watched the IE has been cleaned up to a great degree. Replay's are also a heck of a lot better in the retail build of the videos

The noobs assuming that the demo is a very close build to the final do not know a thing about how the videogame developers have to prepare demos weeks, months in advanced in most cases..as in this demo..it is around a 7-9 old from what i read on one of the dev tweets a few days back..thats like what...about two months older from retail?..i think there can be plenty of fine tuning done in two months time and the retail video's clearly show its a lot more POLISHED. So you big mouth cry babies that speak without any knowledge in how these things work behind close doors...zip your lips, please and i mean no disrespect but its annoying to keep hearing these noobs saying if anyone thinks the final will be different than the demo is out of their minds..that's totally false and just spreading idiot noob type rumors. Fact is..the demo is a lot older than you think..

By the way...is T.O even in the demo? No...that right there should of given you a clue to you noobs saying the demo is close to final build.

Anyways..i just get tired of the immaturity around here over a video game...i mean most of us are grown men...lets act like it..well to be honest..i know some grown men that are very childish and immature at my work and i work in at aerospace company (currently on medical leave) that make parts for our jet fighters, etc so it does not surprise me that in a video game forum i would hear and see the same. I been a member here for 10 years...it never use to get this bad ..not sure what happened...but some of you all need to chill out a bit and enjoy a game for what it is... a real gamer will not dissect a game..if its decent and enjoyable to play..they will play it. If your expecting perfect in a video game..you do not belong being a gamer..simple as that. Somethings i get a feeling there are just haters coming in here to just make madden look bad because of the extreme hate they have held towards madden since the old 2k5 days of end.

I look at it like this...football is a very hard thing to get right. Along with that..some people want their own things done perfectly in the game, and that's impossible for EA to satisfy..so that explains some of the ranting going on but if you could only just accept things for what they are and appreciate improvement when improvement is really put forth...maybe you could actually enjoy Madden finally.

I been a die hard 2k5 fan for so many years..heck i even bashed madden back in the day when the 2k game was still alive and kicking and i had trouble liking madden after 2k5 was gone...each and every year i tried so hard to like madden...every demo i downloaded i hoped it would be the year and each demo of madden let me down...not this year..this is the first year the madden demo has had me coming back for more and more and more and i cant get enough of it. The great thing about it though is that while i see a lot of bugs and quirks in the demo, some goofy AI logic,etc...i know the final version will be much more polished ...we have retail videos proving that already...sure i expect to still see bugs and goofy AI logic..but hey..i am what you call a "true gamer"..one who appreciates a decent playing game and delivers a bit of fun and excitement..and finally madden delivers that. Those that look a a video game like that..are what i consider the "true gamers" of this generation.

And with the new picture of the zoom cam....that totally made my week!! I was hoping the zoom cam would be low and closer up to the players and it is..its a very nicely done zoom cam..we just need more footage of it for passing and running plays..how the zoom cam pans out for both passing and running plays...thats the only question i have left.

Other than that..Madden 13 will totally keep me satisfied this year until madden 14 comes out..this is the first year i have been this excited since NFL 2k5..seriously...madden 13 feels like a mix of madden and 2k5 in a lot of ways..and it has gotten a fresh boost by IE , Commentary, tightened up gameplay and all the new presentation aspects, etc

Just stop the F'n whining..its sickening...i dont got a problem with constructive criticism...share your thoughts on what you dont like because that helps the dev's see where they can fix things but do not sit here and bash it to death and find every word in the dictionary to make it look bad and go make madden 13 like a piece of trash when there was obviously real effort put into it..that deserves some respect and its definitely not trash..it is actually the best football game since NFL 2k5 i've play and its light years ahead of NCAA 13. One thing i do hope is to see 2k Sports take a shot at a NCAA football game though..i cant stand EA's NCAA football games for some reason but you wont see my butt over there bashing it to death..i go over there just to give some constructive criticism to maybe "help" the dev's improve the game...thats our purpose here when it comes to input..anything else is just trolling.

Remember what goes around comes around..watch out how you treat others...because it'll come back to haunt your butt one day. You can let out your negatives about a game without having to resort to immature low blow comments..seriously, grow up!!
