It's funny that this turned into an EA vs. 2K debate (at times) - of which I never ever mentioned 2K for a millisecond. But even if this is an "alpha" build - if the idea is smarter AI and more simulation-like hockey, wouldn't EA have at least tuned down the rocket passing & magnetized sticks just a LITTLE BIT??? If this was an NBA or College Hoops game - would passing the ball 500 mph to a guy only 4 feet away, ALWAYS catching those passes (which are always dead on center)... or an NFL or College Football game where the QB passed the ball to his RB in the flats at those same speed and distances - would this really be acceptable??? Come on, that's a joke.
QFT.

Sad part is the EA fanboys defended the early footage of NHL 12 too, calling it amazing and that it would be the best NHL game yet.

Look at what happened.

Constructive criticism is a good thing, especially in an early build for a game coming out, not sure why some of you get so defensive.

Are you saying there's a NEW broadcast camera?
How is it different from the old one?

The passing, in this video, looks no where near realistic by any means. Hopefully this video causes enough uproar to the point where EA realizes this, and can make some adjustments.
They know pass reception is borked and it's on the list of things to fix before release. We'll see how it turns out. I really hope it improves, as I can't take another year of rocket passing.

Re: NHL 13 Gameplay Video

Well after watching the video, the game does look improved and those 2 playing were clueless. I did see the things MK pointed out and they are a concern I even could not help but notice Brodeur still wearing the pads he wore 2 years ago....really? And MK was also right that they really screwed up NHL 12 with patches and tuners. That being said you other guys are also right it is in the early stage and Im guessing they played with no slider tweaks at all. I was one of those guys that bitched and moaned about the game never playing just like real hockey....guys give it up its never going to happen....I dont think it can. Its a video game and they are just never going to be able to duplicate all of the action and realistic physics of an NHL game, at least not any time soon. I enjoy the series so much more now that I lowered expectations a bit. Trust me I can list a bunch of problems with NHL 12 and I'm, sure I posted a ton after the game came out, but I was actually able to enjoy NHL 12 after I stripped it back down to its out of the box form and tweaked the sliders.I had hockey that was close enough to real for me to enjoy. The improvements I see in NHL 13 have me looking forward to it and maybe we will be that much closer to a more realistic game

Good observations and point taken.

On the pass reception/lively puck front...

I'd love to see some pucks flipping up on end and having them sent way up high, even into the netting. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen where a player decides to take a shot instead of settling the puck down, and ends up missing badly.

Re: NHL 13 Gameplay Video

Given how terrible these guys were at the game, I'm going to *guess* they didn't change any settings, which means this video was played on the "Pro" Skill Level w/ the "Default" game style.

We all know online is played on "All-Star, Normal," so things like pass receptions, agility, game speed, puck control, etc. aren't really relevant, not that they really would be 3+ months before release anyway.

I played on "All-Star, Normal" all throughout the community event, and found passing to be much less laser-like and tape to tape than NHL 12. It wasn't as ridiculous as NHL 11, which IMO is a good thing because in that game, it wasn't possible to make a hard pass in the neutral zone from the faceoff circle w/o the puck bouncing off a Legend 3 player's stick. I found it to be a comfortable middle ground back in May, which is what I think people were hoping for...
