I didn't say here at OS... but that doesn't matter because I do think that there ARE a number of people here at OS who also don't really want authentic game play. I am not going to name names, but some of you know who you are or know who I am talking about.

There are also lots of people who DO care about authentic game play, but just because they do doesn't mean everyone else does. So, no. It isn't "simply disingenuous."

People don't come here, day after day, for years on end, happy to see the gameplay not measure up to other sports video games that exist.
No, but they are happy with the game play and how casual/arcade it is. There are a nubmero f people who have actually said that they DON'T want to play a game that is "too realsitc." You know what? That's fine. In fact, that's great that they know what they want and that they enjoy Madden. However, I ask that we are given a game with a "classic" and simulation style options.

Still purchasing the game and being able to find some enjoyment in it, as well as not being Terminator-like in relentless critique of the games' flaws, in no way, shape, or form, means that the we don't have the same fervent desire for an exponential improvement in how the game plays.
I know, I am sooo terminator like in my relentless critique of a video game when my expectations are for the game to meet standards already achieved by others... sometimes standards already achieved in older Madden games.

I'm sorry, but it is hard for me to enjoy the game when this is how it wants to represent "good" run defense:

I don't expect to win on every block on every run play, but really? Why is it liek this? Well, because there is no real engaged player movement, nor are they good run fits/gap assignments defensively. Block/No block. Oh, looks like I lose this play. Next time I might get two blocks and spring a 15+ yard run. Maybe I can use my spin move and score a TD as the safety falls on his bum. That's some satisfying running.

I'm sorry but it is hard for me to enjoy the passing game when this is how the computer calls defense all game long:

Points.

More points. Oh, look Alex Smith is going to try for the 50 TD mark this season! I am so good at this game because I throw the ball over the middle over and over again. Sure, the AI will defend it sometimes, but not very often. Not enough to adapt and force me to stop calling it almost every play.

Sure, the AI isn't as good as a human... but common.

Also, as a 49ers fan, I like that the real life team has a brutal front 7 that generates pressure and helps that secondary... but in Madden, my front 7 is content with playing patty cake all game long or getting thrown to the turf unless I user control one of my defenders. OR, when the AI does actually try to pass rush, it looks silly when doing it.

Here we have Carl Nicks not double teaming Justin Smith, and letting Justin beat the Center one-on-one and then come after him and win another one-on-one: http://youtu.be/K3H1PgImtZ0

Next I have AI Justin Smith actually tryign to rush the passer and throwing Nicks on his rear end with a "bull rush/power move." http://youtu.be/1ivI_BEubFw

These were with 100 user pass rush against 0 computer pass blocking... where I still saw my big 3-4 linemen gettign thrown around like rag dolls on other plays, eating turf.

But, no... I am too critical about game play. Sorry that I want to play with my 49ers to their strengths and hide their weaknesses just like they do in real life. Instead I just turn that run first offense into a pass happy points machine and cross my fingers defensively.

As for the topic of the vid, I dig how the tackle in progress is influenced by the 2nd defender coming it. The pile cutting out the legs of the 2 other Steelers also looked promising. I'm curious to see if the engagement from the 2nd defender is consistent, and how many additional defenders can influence the momentum.
I couldn't agree more. It's atrocious to me. Direction change in general, for me, needs work. I'm still hopeful simply because they kept reiterating that this is not final gameplay, but SHEESH!

I hear all of the points about the player movement issues, line interaction, etc and it makes me not feel so warm inside about the supposed implementation of Defensive Read and React AI.

I've said this in other places, but if EA has used the read-and-react label to only address the WR/DB interaction, I'm going to be a bit upset. Everyone has their opinions, but I think that nothing would be more monumental than incorporating a TRUE read-and-react system to how the defense plays. Linebackers read linemen and react accordingly (sometimes incorrectly, bite on play action, etc). EVERY player on defense has a key to read and they are to react accordingly. It's not just a guy in coverage who is being forced not to act "psychic". This is about getting players to be in the right place or to act like they would in real life. There are few things more important to gameplay. Reads and Reactions happen pre-snap, at the beginning of a play, and throughout the play. It makes it more enjoyable on offense as well. Those of us who know how to read a defense expect them to react intelligently. EA has failed to capture this aspect and it's a huge reason the game of football is not fun for me on video games... and it's a shame.

I'm still worried of the Linebacker speed.

Overall, even though I am happy with what EA is doing, these new features are things we already saw back on old-gen consoles. And now we have bad looking footwork and moving animations, and I don't see the Franchise mode anywhere.

I don't use twitter, but one of the questions I have is whether the cpu will disguise its coverages.

Also if "best on best" will prevent what I call assignment switching. For example suppose you have trips with a TE in the middle, and then have the TE go outside and the wr inside; the defender covering the TE will switch to covering the wr and vice versa. So sometimes you'll end up with a LB covering a wr.
