That's why I don't understand why they're showing so much so early at this point. My theory is that they (Tiburon) are very impressed with what they've done and are showing it, while wanting to also take advantage of the heightened interest the NFL Draft brings. I give them all the credit in the world for giving out so much info so early. But this isn't like Battlefield 3, where Dice put out pre-alpha video that displayed serious technology improvements that sent the hype train into overdrive for that game. The improvements Tiburon's making seem to be more along the lines of common-sense improvements - which I don't know why they'd choose to hype them. Unless they truly exist in a vacuum and don't realize how sports games have evolved, or acknowlege where football games have been previously. Also disappointed that they more than doubled the development team yet it didn't yield them taking a more comprehensive approach to improving the game, where every gameplay facet received a facelift. Instead it's the same outside/in approach of focusing on the skill positions and little attention given to the OL/DL play, versus an inside/out approach that while not as exciting makes more sense long term. I'm sure they've made improvements to the OL/DL on some level, but it'd be nice to see the less glamorous aspects of the gameplay be given as much attention as the QB/WR play received and addressed sooner rather than later. To that end it doesn't seem like things have changed; they always seem like the team that refuses to draft an offensive lineman because they're normally not sexy picks.

Still I do think they're at least making common sense improvements this year. The improvements to the QB and WR play are much needed. And I like the changes to the defensive backs and finally getting the ability to disguise coverages. And the presentation improvements were also much needed.

The movements look very organic in that video. For the most part.

I agree. I passed on Madden 12 for months. However, between getting tired of Madden 11 and to be honest, watching my 49ers play well for the first time in 10 years, I HAD to get 12.

I don't feel the need to get 13, and until I see something that really sparks my interest, I don't see myself blowing another $45+ on another football game.

The presentation looks nice... and that MIGHT lure me in a bit... but with other games liek SkyRim and Mass Effect 3 still on my wish list right now, Madden 13 [months away] is much lower on that same list.

This.

A thousand times "This!"

I REALLY don't expect QB mechanics to suddenly appear after this build. I don't expect line play to suddenly change from what we have seen. I don't expect to suddenly see engaged player movements if it isn't in the game already.

I expect to see/hear things the commentary getting polished, things liek the numbers on the shoulders of the bears uniforms and such getting fixed... that sort of thing.

There are four categories that I care about: General Presentation, game play, playbooks, and offline franchise.

In Madden 12, the offline franchise got a big overhaul and that made me happy. It also got a decent visual presentation overhaul which is also nice. It looks like it is getting an audio overhaul which is also very nice. I don't love Phil and Jim, but I hated Chris Collinsworth. At least it isn't Troy and Joe Buck. I wish John would come back and do booth work, but if he doesn't want too, that the way it goes.

I always found Madden's playbooks interesting, even if a number of the plays didn't always work our like they were supposed to. I still wish we had access to offline Formation/Play creator.

However, of all 4 areas that are important to me, game play was always the most important to me. Good franchise mode let me mes around and simulate step-by-step into the post season where I would play games on a higher difficulty, but there was no way I could stand playing a full season with the game play we have now... and how the game play continues to be.

I agree, I think they are pretty confident in what they have/have done and that's why they are showing it. Like I said in the NCAA threads. I can't fault them for effort. I see that. Unfortunately, I don't see a lot that is going to make me spend 65 dollars yet. I see lots of things that will make the game better, no doubt. But this time, I'm going to stick with my standards. Now if I can get the game for 30 bucks I might do that. But I'm not seeing 65 dollars right now. But even 30 is going to be a bit much if all I'm going to do is get frustrated at a lack of depth to defensive scheming/play calling. Let me just say it this way, when I finally figured out All Pro 2k8, I made my own defensive playbook and I'm not talking about selecting stuff in the game. I created a big a$$ word document of stunts, possible blitzers with stunts and the coverage behind it. That word document was almost 30 pages.

I had 4 man schemes with twist line stunt by DT's. 4 man schemes with right side twist with DT and DE. I had 4 man stunts out of odd fronts. All of which created havoc. I went through every stunt they had in that game and then worked on adding a blitzer to see what would happen. I had manual blitzes and then blitzes where I could drop into coverage and still create havoc. Then I had 5 man, 6 man. I enjoy this. I don't want cookie cutter BS defensive schemes with a spy here and a contain there and a three man rush with someone running right up the middle untouched. I want DEPTH and hundreds/thousands of possibilities to work with. That way after a month with the game I haven't faced everything there is to face. That's why it is very important for them to also make sure that slide protection, quarter, full and half slides are available and that they work correctly. Ideally I like Boot Action with my QB. I haven't been able to do that in Madden game because the slide just does not work properly to me. I hope they can do something with this. If they can that would save the game for me even though there is no combo blocking.

Man look here. They have to get the sliding out of this game. Look at how the cornerback for the bills is ice skating on the field. It's April right now and the game doesn't come out until August. There is no way that they will keep the sliding in. Plus in the presentations on EA sports they kept saying that these trailers and stuff are not the final product.

They say the same thing each year and the final product is more of the same.

Re: Madden NFL 13 Video - Replay Footage and Packers vs. Bears Pre-Game (Pastapadre)

Since a few mentioned what would make them buy the game...

The next Madden I buy will have realistic footwork & engaged player mobility. I may even hold out for tiered defensive play calling. I can't think of anything that could make me overlook the absence of these elements.

The lack of footwork & player interaction ruins the spacing & timing to the point where it doesn't play like football IMO. And the lack of tiered defensive play calling eliminates the ability to scheme defensively, like LBzrule explained. The chess match is half the fun.

My guess is I'll be video football gameless until next gen, if for nothing else, the tiered defensive play calling. I can see the other 2 elements making the cut as early as next year.
