There is a big difference between help D and double/traps.

Put it on 100 if you want. you still wont see a double.

All it means is the help D will collapse more and a player will more likely than not sag off his player to cover or cut out driving lanes.
It creates the illusion of a double. like in the real NBA when you see a perimeter defender really sag off his man in anticipation of trapping or collapsing on the offensive player making a move. To let the player know he will be doubled as soon as he makes his move and/or puts the ball on the floor.

Except in the real NBA the player will also actually trap or double the player.

All you have to do is if you see the cpu doing this and "shadowing"' you with help D. call an ISO, create more court spacing. you will then have more room to operate.

Yes and no...

In the REAL NBA you rarely see true double teams. Why?... Because players and teams are to smart and will adjust and find open shots by moving the ball. What you're right, the CPU will drop and in anticipate a hot player's next move, they SHOULD NOT double team him each time he gets the ball because then, it will be 4 on 3 basketball. I just finished a game with the 86 celtics(me/home) vs the 87 lakers. bird got HOT!! So the lakers(CPU) started watching for him. When he got the ball in the perimeter, they did not double, why because he's an excellent passer and the 86 celtics, anyone on that team could score. But once I made my move and was in a position were I was a threat and exposed my defender, the defense help came, and two defenders were on me. Sometimes a trap animation would kick in. It may be my other gameplay slider setting which allows this to happen, idk, but I'm pretty please with what I've found...

We must be watching a different sport then.

I am seeing plenty of double teams and traps. They often are negated because the offensive player wisely passes just before he is in trouble. [which is the point in going to double in the 1st place, either cause a t/o or force the player to pass]

Maybe thats why you "rarely" see true doubles.
doesnt mean that the D isnt attempting to doube/trap and doing it regularly.

In 2k. the cpu simply doesnt commit to the double. it provides help and shadows you but that is not enough. Its fake. You never have to worry you are going to be forced to give up the ball. [unlike reality].

As I said. if you see the cpu sag off its man and provide "help" to cutoff lanes etc...just call an ISO to create better court spacing. the double wont ever come.

No same sport, lol...

Maybe it's got to do with my defense awareness so low and team help set so high. Theyre not fully engaged into a double team most of the time but the help is altering my shot/success greatly...

The help d slider sucks because you can just scorch the CPU with PnRs. The problem is they don't engage in a trap. Call a PnR with 100 help d you'll score each time. The defenders need to engage the ball handler with hands up forcing a turnover or bad pass. I just think 2k12s ai sucks. I'll still play but it doesn't feel as authentic as last years. With 100 help d it just creates slower rotations for CPU defense.

For the first time since the original 2K hit I might be shelving this game. I keep giving it chances but I just can't overlook certain things. The way the AI runs the offense, stands around and just hits a defended shot more than half the time is just ridiculous. Plus no double teams, cheap skating defense, quickness/speed have 0 meaning, and some other things. 2K should be ashamed of this product outside their legendary modes and pretty presentation/graphics. The core basketball gameplay is just bad against the AI. Passing and even the dribbling feel wrong at times. My cycle from playing 2K from release to release might be over.

Yea I cant defend the a.i. If a video game ever made me want to punch a hole through a wall, playing the CPU in this game would be the one. Most of the complaints about the A.I. cheap tactics is one of the things I do agree with posters about.

Thats is why I play solely online. I have to put up with cheesers but at least I can counter and adjust to stop them.

Just wanted to say: I was seeing the AI hit contested shots at an unrealistic rate and decided to delete my multiple Settings files and clear the cache to reapply the patch(es). Worked like a charm, although I shouldn't have had to do that. I'm playing on All-Star/Superstar so can't speak to whatever experience if you're playing on HoF. But I've been having fantastic games against the AI. Not trying to change your mind but don't see how anyone could characterize the AI as poor based on my game experiences.

But if that or other things have already been tried then yep, time to move on.
