Blame 2k for not putting enough resources into NHL2k to compete and keep up. While there are factors with EA's game that annoy me and could be far better, 2k dug their own grave with the lack of focus and serious effort they've shown over the last 4 or 5 years.

They need to fix the goals that can always be scored on from the face off circle on the goalies right. EVERY shot the CPU takes from there, goes in the net. It's so frustrating when you're having a good game, and the CPU skates to the face off circle, and no matter your defense, shot goes in.

Has EA "dumbed" down the game this year to a more arcade level?? I still haven't seen this "player specific attribute" thing (Crosby plays like Crosby, etc). Is there a tuner that can possible fix these issues???

Thanks, while I have been very vocal about my disappointment with 2k over the last few years, there were elements that I enjoyed very much. The arenas looked awesome, 3 man booth even though the commentary delivery wasn't very natural sounding (sounded like they were reading off the script directly when recording lines)

Where 2k faltered was focus and execution, NHL2k6 on 360's nasty shrug goal, the franchise freezes year in year out, the clunky controls (which really is a staple of 2k sports to begin with including MLB's pitching and some of NBA's controls imo)

Had they simplified controls like EA did while still allowing the analog for shooting and dekeing rather than button presses, and had a simple yet deep one on one deke system rather then the god awful Ovi dekes, they may have hung on for another year or two and got back on their feet. I know their are people that liked Prostick, especially 2k8's version of it but for me, if any sports game makes me feel like a contortionist while playing, that doesn't yell out intuitive to me.

Really it all comes down to a huge corporation in Take Two, not allowing the sports line with the exception of NBA the funds needed to flourish and seriously give EA a reason to fix all the outstanding, some being long standing at that gripes we have with the game currently. (The sim engine, the lack of calls, the obvious focus on EASHL and online and adding game modes rather than seriously polishing the modes they already have, GM especially)

Apologies to QB for going way off topic but I would like to see more than one hockey game on the market, while in the grand scheme competition matters little really, choice is a great thing.

I always believe competition breeds quality. Ever since the 2k football series went under, the Madden series quality went down as well. I've been afraid this would happen with the Hockey series, and I feel it is happening now.

I just hope they can address a lot of these issues with a tuner and patch. (does EA even read these forums anymore?)

I just don't believe in the whole competition bit anymore. EA Hockey stepped it up, what happened to 2K? NBA 2K stepped up, where's NBA Live? The Show has been quite good and MLB 2K remains barely playable. So to say that competition makes games better is a crock. Plain and simple it comes down to resources and execution.

Yeah savoie, spot on. Really it does come down to resources, execution, and a solid development plan on what a team wants to accomplish for a given year.

I feel like EA made a big push to get this series on top of 2K, starting with NHL 07 and lasting until NHL 09.

But since NHL 10, the series has just kind of been coasting.

Hardcore hockey fans don't care about additions like "legends" or "ultimate team," they want a game that doesn't play like a bunch of midget figure skaters doing figure eights and scoring weak wristers from impossible shooting angles.
