Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents

Kobe has a 99 layup(wtf?), a 99 close and only a 78 medium? I'm not one to whine about overalls, but these 3 stats are off...You could argue that not even prime Kobe should have a 99 layup. Med should be at least 85 imo, and I would personally make it 90 if in charge of ratings. We are talking about the guy that routinely drains jumpers right in people's faces while being doubled teamed on a daily basis.

The problem with using field goal percentage as a component of coming up with these ratings is that it doesn't ALWAYS reflect ability.

Kobe's mid range FG% is probably much lower than someone of equal mid range shooting ability because of his shot selection.

FG% not always =/= ability, because shot selection is a part of it. You could shoot the ball like Ray Allen but it doesn't matter if you have poor shot selection.

This is a ratings discussion thread isn't it?

You're mentioning Kobe taking bad/difficult shots, like J.R. SMith doesn't take bad/difficult shots.

Kobe takes bad/difficult shots because he's the only perimeter scorer on the Lakers, and IDK, the best player of this generation lol.
You're my friend but I gotta disagree!

(in case you were wondering J.R. Smith shot 48% from range)

There are some ratings for a few role players ( Gooden shot 42% from range) so he should probably be closer to 81 based on anequated conversions) I think one of the big discrepancies is how defense affects these shots, you have a 99 in all shooting skills, good defense will pretty much beat you all the time (believe me playing along against guys with maxed out shooting, perfect contests made the shot fall 20% of the time).

Also I think best player of our generation is either Duncan or Shaq.

I think that factored into his rating. There is only so much you can do with defense and fine-tuning his tendencies until you just have to lower the rating to reflect his bad shot selection.

I would also look at his Low Post shot before we jump to conclusions. He's a beast from the low post, so they probably made it up with that. You can literally abuse Kobe's mid-range/post game because most shooting guards have like...50's in Low Post D. So that should even it out.

Also...I remember at one point JR Smith had a 90 in 3pt because he shot 40% from 3 (taking at least over 500 I think) despite his horrible, absolutely horrible shot selection.

Going back to Kobe, I also think he has inherited AI syndrome, where he shoots better if he's being guarded by someone rather than having a wide open look.

Re: NBA 2K12 Player Ratings Revealed, Including All Free Agents

The only thing that puzzles me really is Zach Randolph having a 69 in Mid Range. 69. Unless the stats tell me otherwise...the eye test tells me Zach is lethal from that range. Again, evidence to the contrary (Of Zach being a good mid-range shooter) would be nice.

I also believe it was either Shaq or Kobe really. Timmy D is in the discussion...yet his game turned off a LOT of casual fans (His game was so sound fundementally that I started calling him the "Big Bore" ). So he may not be accepted as one of the best by the majority unless they're spoon-fed by the media.

To any1 that thinks Kobe's 78 mid range rating is right, u should be imprisoned for life. Im sorry. Kobe should be as close as Dirk in mid range. Kobe def. doesnt deserve a 99 layup either. I think people are forgeting that Kobe is just a couple hundred points away from being top 5 scoring all time.
