Re: NBA 2K12 Demo Available Now, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)

After playing the demo a ton of times here are some of my impressions:
Overall, the game feels very good. The jumpshots seem wayyyy smoother than before, and contact in the paint feels much less artificial.

I'm glad the passing delay is apparently not in the retail, because 85-90% of my turnovers are off passes where I hit the button and my teammate is standing still on the perimeter, but by the time the pass is released they are cutting to the basket with 3 Miami defenders between me and them.

I also have noticed that defensive contests seem much slower, especially on the perimeter. I believe I remember reading somewhere that 2k was trying to reduce the number of blocks on perimeter jumpshots this year. Maybe that is why it is like that? I feel like the amount of blocks on perimeter is good in the demo (I've only seen a couple) but that simple contests/getting a hand in the face needs to be slightly quicker.

I think using big men (especially in my player) will be much more rewarding this year. The post game feels much better(I'm pretty sure I am shooting about 85% on post fadeaways with Dirk) and I LOVE the addition of a functioning hands-up defense. At first whenever Miami was driving to the hoop I was trying to hit y with good timing for the block, and it rarely worked. Then I started just trying to get in the way with Chandler with my hands raised in good position, and that feels much more effective than hitting block and either totally wiffing or swatting it.

Has anyone else noticed that offensive rebounds (especially for the CPU) tend to happen in crazy streaks?? ie for three demo games the Heat will get no offensive boards on me and then in the fourth game they will get like 3-4 offensive rebounds in one possession on multiple different possessions. It seems artificial to me.

This may be because we are playing against the Heat, who have 2 of the most freakishly athletic fast break defenders in the world, but is anyone else having trouble running fast breaks?? It seems the only way I can pass on a fast break is an alley-oop. Any pass that isnt an alley seems to get tipped or stolen no matter what I do. Does anyone else have this issue?

On the upside theres so much cool stuff though- I pulled a sick off the backboard alley-oop to Chandler, Wade dunked on Dirk and did the Pippen-step-over move, the dribble moves feel much better this year(even with dinosaur JKidd I've had a few excellent drives), blocks under the hoop look less fake, steals feel much more timing-based, and there have been some pretty crazy passes(although directional passing with A button seems totally random on who you throw to at times). These are just a few things I've noticed. Sorry for the essay

Anyone noticed that the CPU defenders don't guard the 3 point shot at all? They stand to far from the shooter. I can rain 3s with my guys the whole quarter without them contesting it. Hopefully a demo issue.

the faces look so great
btw, i don't understand why most of my shots with fernandez in traffic near the ft line are short , but his 3-pt jumper fall in with no problem? ( i release the ball exactly when the light in the circle flash on)
is his rating of shoot in traffic is low?

I didn't think people actually paid attention to that circle thing.

@ConnorTime3:

I don't like the delayed passing either...

BUT!

There's a but here. During the delay, if you keep the Left Stick pressed in any direction, that's the direction the receiver will run towards just as the pass is made, so that he can get himself open right after receiving.

So if you want to get Dirk out in the perimeter while he's backing down in the post, press RB, then Y, and immediately move the left stick outwards, towards the perimeter.

I'd like the best of both worlds. Make the passes quicker, but keep this useful little feature.
