Let me depict you my problem, so you may likely recognize if you saw what bugged me happen in your limited time with the game:

Lets say a post shot were to be taken and I pressed the hands up contest, oftenly in 2k11, my player would "jump" with one hand up ... in the paint that sometimes resulted in a shooting foul or in a block, thus the point was that the player jumped without me wanting him to do so.

The above problem was kind of passable because of the narrow space (unless I faced a fake shot spammer), thus it reached to a bothering degree when it occured in the perimeter, while the likelihood of a shoot were about to happen ... I went with my defender to try and "contest" the shot by pressing the hands up (not the swat/block/jump button, again) and my player would just jump with one hand up ... this had 2 really bad consecuences for something I didnt intended: the opponent either got a shooting foul or he drove by me as I was in the air.

Finally, while you were on contest mode in the paint, did you player felt like some physical presence, or was it like last year, kind of no existant when the opponent could still do a layup pushing you back while the animation ran ?

P.S:
I know what you told me DaCzar (which honestly conforted me, a lot), but just reading what JR said abut the 1 hand animation, made me fear that the jumping is still in the game ... contest is putting your hand(s) up only without your feets leaving the floor (basic defense 101) ... and jumping is just trying to block or alter a shot by in mid air ... I am a contest guy and dont want my player to unintendedly jump.
When I was under the rim i used the hands up method and i didn't get fouls called against me. When I was contesting a jumper on the perimeter it was usually a closeout situation and i opted for the Y button which felt like it was more contextual. I do remember drives near the rim had a lot more contact which would adjust the shots and not always create a foul. Another highlight for me was when i was defending a pick and roll but not defending the ball but instead the roller. It felt way easier to bump the roller which stopped his cut to the rim. When I saw this i paused the game and pointed it out to Rob and told him how crucial it was, especially when trying to defend the 7-5 my player cheesers.

He also said people who spammed the ball fake would not be nearly as successful and said they have something to combat the 7-5 guys too.

Hope this kind of answers your questions.

Did you happen to come accross any shot blocking from guards JR2424? Guys like Wade, Jordan, Pippen and KB are/were especially talented at it.

The thing is guys is that most if not all of the body snatching animations in the paint have been removed. It had nothing to do with you raising your hands you were jumping even if you were running away because of the 2 player contest animations. LOL it's a different game in and around the basket because of this.

I didn't get any blocks but I know the Ai got me a couple of times on the perimeter. There weren't any chasedown blocks when I played but I know they still have them. I didn't play with or against the Heat (I regret not doing that). I was trying to see as many teams as possible before the guys had to leave. The one thing that stood out to me on the perimeter was that quasi pushoff animation when you play tight on the ballhander. I know the guys here love those little things and those kinds of things were everywhere. I'm trying to remember all of it so i can share it with you guys. Hope that helps a little.

So true. The contact near the rim is a huge addition. I loved backing down with Moses Malone. He was battling for post position. So was Hakeem's, who would also come up and set a screen without me calling for one. Oh and off topic, they have Hakeem's face down pat.
