Also, I would prefer more of a team chemistry aspect. What do these player roles even mean? If my guy has a role of "Franchise QB"...So what? does that mean he will automatically be good? I guess I just don't really seee the direction that these roles are supposed to take the game. Sounds like a gimmick to me.
To answer your second question first, the Franchise QB role in past Madden games worked as follows: it recognizes a quarterback who is amongst the elite in the NFL. In order to get that tag, the player in question had to meet a certain ratings threshold (90, I think? not sure). Players with this tag had boosted trade values (meaning AI teams were less likely to trade franchise quarterbacks away), and if the franchise QB was on the field during a game he provided a small ratings boost to all his on-field offensive teammates. The role was taken away if either A) the quarterback's rating fell below a certain threshold (85 in the past Madden games), or B) that team drafted a new quarterback in the first round.

On the larger issue of player roles, not every player will be tagged with a role, per se, at least if we are to use past Madden games as an indicator. At most ten guys per-team would get roles. Roles might be a bit of a misnomer, it's more like player bonus traits on top of the existing ratings system. It provides a bit of an RPG element to roster management. It is not, however, what NBA 2K defines as player roles, where you tell players on your team their actual role as "starter", "sixth man", "rotation bench player", "developmental player", etc.

Pretty sure it doesn't boost overalls (and neither did weapons). Like I said above, it affects the CPU AI team logic and it gives players meaning.

Also, read the article again. It's not a "gimmick". Not every new feature EA implements is always a "gimmick". Player Roles IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A big effect on how the CPU AI operates their teams and also helps give more character/liveliness to franchise. I don't even see how it can be argued that this is a bad addition.
I fixed that for ya.

I don't know if you are stating this because are actually concerned or if you are just trying to find something to hate on. However, FYI, according to the info that is out there for anyone interested to read, Player Roles don't appear to be for ALL players but Dynamic Player Performance(DPP) is for ALL players. The part of DPP that has been revealed at this point, is consistency and confidence for ALL players. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/116/1168180p1.html

According to the EA website, more info on DPP will be released June 6 for the E3 Expo.

Saying it cause I am concerned. I guess I combined the roles with the DPP. I thought their role would somehow impact their rating. Got it now.

Settle down Charlie Sheen.

And since when does a troll have viable questions and concerns as well as bring up good points via level headed opinions?
