From little league to college, I was always taught to hit the inside of the bag with my left foot in order to maintain momentum. You use your left foot, to "push" off the bag and pivot towards the next base.

Actually, you have it backwards.

If you have the rhythmic pattern correctly and go for an inside-the-park home run, fundamentalists will tell you that the left foot hitting first and third base is best for your push and stride, and if you happen to go right foot on second base so be it.

I don't know if the right foot elitists are also the same group of people who choose to run directly at first base before making a random banana peel turn toward the next bag. The instance you have guaranteed yourself first base with an option for second base, you start distancing yourself from the baseline to gain momentum into the next bag. So if I hit a ground ball up the middle, I'll be sprinting right toward the bag to try and beat out a play; if that ball goes through the infielders, I'll widen out for a turn. If I hit a fly ball, I'll instantly widen out from home plate for the best possible momentum. When I hit that bag, it will be with my left foot.

Yeah they are taught both ways. I just could never do the LF. I know if I tried now I'd fall down.
In some ways it does make since as I think I usually for some reason hit 3B with lF but I never did on 1B or 2B.
I could use LF IF I took a wide turn with no problems but I always felt faster taking a more direct approach with lends itself to using my RF as the push off foot.
Different teachings and techniques I guess but now I want to drive to field and try.. lol

Actually despite being taught to touch the base with your left foot for better "planting and force," it really doesn't matter. Your stride is probably more important, as well as your turn.

You don't slow down to stutter step or increase your stride just to get that one specific foot on the left corner of the bag. You judge it as it comes.

Yep since this was bugging me lol I did some searching online and what the most common saying is:
Stride and being the most comfortable is what's important. Whichever foot you are most comfortable using that does not stop momentum should be used. The only thing common everywhere I looked was making sure to hit the inside of the bag.
