Oh, for those talking about the dev cycle excuse, I think we also have to remember that we're talking about different engines when it comes to 2K's and EA's sports game engines. EA devs speak on the cycle issue based on what the engine can do such as the Madden engine. It's a limited one and the need for disc space may be something that can help it out but the PS3 and 360 have different amounts of disc space, as we all know so they have to cater lower of the two when it comes to that.

It's been far obvious that the 2K sports engines are more advanced than EA's for years, now. Their engines seem extremely flexible which allows them to add such great detail to the visuals and animations. Definitely looking forward to getting my hands on this demo early Weds morn (sux that my new job is 3p-12a) unless the demo happens to hit early on the PS3 before I leave out on Tues afternoon but I doubt it.
Still giving them an excuse and an out. Disc space is meaningless at this point due to the fact that DVD-9 is capable of holding all sorts of goodies. (See: NFL 2K5, CH2K8, etc.) Its just a lack of effort/talent at that company.

I for one cannot wait until this game is released!

A natural extension to the impressive dynamic commentary from 2K10. This is going to be the best sports game of this generation of consoles.

This is, quite simply, how sport games should be made.

Not sure how much they succeeded in bringing things together, but imo this goes beyond any effort a sports developer has done to date in a single dev cycle - including NFL2K5.

I think you both overlooked the part about the different engines in what I said. Engine code is a big factor in making a game and what I was saying that in relation to code limitation, more disc space may be need to do more with the limited engine code, in EA's case.
Like I said, it's obvious that 2K's sport games engines are more advanced and flexible, overall, and possibly because of that, at least it seems, they don't need as much disc space to get such supreme results.

It's very funny you mention this because I remember by when 2K6 came out, people were crying that VC didn't rewrite the engine for nextgen and that 2K6 was just a "port". Now, we may be seeing why? Seems VC has always had a scalable foundation for their games, OR they are just very smart beasts. EA has always had the bigger team, but VC has always been able to hang with them with like products if not succeed. Think about it. I think most people recognize that NFL2K5 was far ahead of it's time. It does things that Madden has YET to replicate. I think that this halftime show WILL be what we were given with NFL2K5 and this excites me. I can't wait to see how this particular feature evolves beyond this year since we never got a chance to see it grow in the NFL title.

I don't know man. Many people in the games industry love to work for EA. They pay the best and easily have some of the best perks and benefits this side of Google. I will say that the biggest gripe you get from EA folks are that the "politics" or "suits" get in the way of design and development. If the suits don't like an idea, it gets squashed. But that's just from a handful of views, and I know that doesn't apply across all of their studios.

As a person that get into these sorts of things, the classic example of the difference between the "engines".

NOTE: This is not "which is better"! I'm just noting differences.

So, since we're talking about presentation, let's look at those. So lets say a shot is made. The camera "cuts" and shows the shooter turning and running back to the defensive end. Both games have these, what I call "get back on defense" sequences. In the EA games, the screen will go black for a moment. To me, that says that they are loading in the sequence. Whether it's animations or a high detailed player model or whatever, it's a load sequence. The VC game doesn't do that. You never really leave the court unless it's a replay. Same for free throws. So, it's not that the EA engine is doing something bad. It's SOP actually and they do it well. But it's interesting what the VC engine has been able to do over the years and it doesn't get much pub. Like I said in my other post - it's just funny when you think about all of the hating VC took for "porting" basketball back in the day.
