If they do it right, you won't be able to either.

It actually simulates jump shooting very, very well.

Instead of things being timing based, you are pushing the stick up and a certain degree range will be a successful "aim" out of the say, 120 degrees they are using for shooting. Add to that timing, defensive presence...

You get the picture. None of you will fully understand it until you try it.

One could argue that it's a lot easier to get your timing/mechanics right with a controller than it is with a real basketball in your hands and a 10" high ring to shoot at.

Player ratings need to be factored in, among other things, otherwise we could be dropping 3's with players like Joel Anthony because they're open and your movement with the stick was spot on.

"If they do it right" that's a big IF. Afterall we're talking about EA here.

I'm certainly intrigued by this new shooting mechanic, and if you're impressed by it Pared then that's a promising sign.

I wonder how this will tie in with signature jumpshots? I hope every player doesn't have the same generic jumpshot. EA wouldn't be that dumb would they?

I don't think it's a big if from what I saw. What they already had implemented worked well, but alas I didn't scrutinize every single player's values PLUS there was a visible bar on screen. You won't have this while playing.

Even with the visual aid, it was hard to line things up and get the placement and release accurate for a jumpshot to go in with 100% consistency, especially outside the 3 point range.

I have an idea how they will tie it in for signature jumpshots, but I wasn't told anything as to how they will do it. I also didn't ask, honestly. It seems like timing would just be based upon release, with the "sweet spot" being during a different time for everyone else.

I can even see guys saying the shooting is "too hard" if they don't give the user a big enough window.

They can certainly "go wrong" but I don't see them doing it. And I've shared that sentiment of "they'll find a way to mess it up in the past." I think with the guys behind it, they will get it just right.

Can you elaborate what you mean with Defensive Presence? Does the shot difficulty increase if there's a Battier guarding you as opposed to a Luke Walton? Does it also change if you have a hand in the face or not? Or is it strictly distance between you and a defender that matters?

Not sure how it will work with individual players but your shot success window closes as you are defended more closely.
